letter from the editor Hey Huskies! As the largest and oldest service program for high school students in the world, Key Club has a rich and proud history. Our goal here at North is to provide service and activities to help make our high school experiences meaningful and memorable. Our members actively care about our school and community. In my personal experience, Key Club has given me opportunities for service, helped me develop my leadership skills and, most importantly, given me new friendships with North students. Key Club's core values are caring, character building, inclusiveness, and leadership. I feel that if we follow these values and continue caring for each other, our opportunities this year in Key Club will be limitless. Happy reading!

Since the 1940's, Key Club's have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact on the lives of babies. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long. By hosting service projects, raising funds, and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth, March of Dimes is making a difference in the United States.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN KEY CLUB? WRITTEN BY MORGAN LITTLE Hey! My name is Morgan Little and I am the Key Club Junior Representative for Edmond North High school. This year Key Club looks very different than we are used to. Being my first year holding an officer position, I was really nervous about how things were going to get done. Now that we are here, I am so excited for the 2020-2021 school year. Our officer team works really hard to find ways to help out in our community even during a global pandemic. I really enjoy working with this team and I know that we are going to have a super successful year, despite the challenges we are facing. I am most looking forward to our Angel Tree project in December. Angel Tree sponsors families who may have some trouble providing gifts for their children during the holidays. I love collecting items to donate and figuring out ways to raise money for the cause. Scheduling food nights at local restaurants, picking up a few extra items at Walmart, and volunteering to gift wrap the items we are donating are all excellent ways to support Angel Tree. This event really brings ENHS Key Club together and I can not wait to get started! With everything that is going on in the world, I am so proud of our club members for finding outside of the box ways to help others this year. Writing letters to nursing homes or hospital staff, recording yourself reading a children’s book, or picking up trash at your local park while remaining socially distanced from others are all great ways to help out -- and earn points ;). I know that Key Club this year is going to be so incredible. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this year.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA WRITTEN BY EMMA EVANS This year has been everything but normal. For our officers, we have had to rethink all of our events. Since we can not volunteer in large groups, we have encouraged people to volunteer alone or in small groups. With that being said, we can still have events like writing cards to front-line workers and making and donating masks. With everything that has been going on, we need to stay connected to not only providing service to our community but to also to being strong in a time of uncertainty. One way that we can do this is through social media. Before Covid-19, social media was a way that we could develop connections and relationships. Now, during a pandemic, it is the most crucial way for us to stay connected to our members, teachers, and loved ones. For Edmond North Key Club, we have an Instagram account that our Historian posts events and keeps everyone up to date. We send out reminders and updates about upcoming events for our members to see. In our school district, we are split into an A or B schedule. Those on A will go to school on Monday and Tuesday, but then have virtual learning for the rest of the week at home. However, those on B have virtual learning on Monday and Tuesday, and then go to school on Thursday and Friday. No one is at the school on Wednesday because the custodians and teachers are preparing and cleaning for the next group. Due to this, our club has decided to hold our meetings on Wednesdays. We will use google meet because it does not have a set up fee or monthly membership charge. For the 2020-2021 school year, social media will be the most crucial aspect for our club. We need to keep our members updated and informed. Even though this year may be weird and unknown, the best thing that we can do is stay connected.

HOW TO ADAPT TO CHANGE WRITTEN BY EMMA EVANS With everything that has been going on this year, one thing that we need to be able to do is to adapt. Change is inevitable, especially during a pandemic. For the 2020-2021 school year, our club has had to adjust the way we host our meetings, reform our membership process, and rework volunteering opportunities. Our first meeting will be held on October 7th. These past few weeks, we have been meeting on zoom to prepare and plan out how our meetings will go. During the meeting, we discussed point cards, new members, and event ideas. We decided to have a PDF of the membership cards that we can send out to members. They can then print them out at home or at school. If students do not have access to a printer at home, we will have printed copies in our advisors classroom for them to be able to pick up. Members are required to get a signature of the person hosting the volunteering event that they participate in. We are counting on our members to be honest, since we can not hold in person volunteering events or meetings. For volunteering opportunities, one way that communities can stay together is to have donations. Whether that be for masks or food, every little thing can help someone in need. For our members, even though we can not meet in person, students can still volunteer by themselves in their spare time. From animal shelters to the food bank, there are still several ways that we can stay involved and volunteer in. While our club has adapted to these changes, there are still many unknowns that lie ahead. It is key that we stay organized, adaptable, and prepared for these times of change.

CHANGES IN KEY CLUB THIS YEAR WRITTEN BY ALEENA ALI This year is going to be so different than all the other Key club years I have been a part of. I joined my freshman year of high school not knowing how the Key club experience was going to be like. My sister was in the club as well and I was new to the school. I knew that I should join as many clubs as possible to make friends and that is exactly what happened. I loved Key club a lot and decided to stay on for three more years. I even ran for an officer position my junior year of high school and loved watching the behind the scenes as a Junior Representative. I got to go to events with the officer team and got to be in charge of two volunteering events. My events were Trick or Treat for UNICEF and Animal Shelter. This year, my senior year, I ran for the secretary position. It was a lot of work at first, but our Club President Katherine helped me out a lot because she was secretary last year. This year, Key club has to have a lot of changes. Applications this year are online instead of in person. You also have to pay your dues online which can be a little tricky for some people, but it is the safest way. Because of this, applications have been extended than they usually are. We also cannot have the same activities we had last year because of the current coronavirus pandemic. The point cards also will have to have a change. The officers have decided that we may just have everyone submit pictures of their point cards. We will hand out the normal point cards to everyone so they can get signatures from the organizer or supervisor of the events. After the point card is completed, everyone will need to email the picture of the point card to Ms. Corley to get their Key club credit. Members will also have to do volunteering activities on their own because Key club cannot have their own major events. A member will have to be truthful and actually do an act of volunteering to get the point. They have to get a signature for proof. Another change we have implemented is to our officer and group meetings. We have to do them online since everyone’s schedule is different. We will have monthly meetings over Google Meets to let all the members know what is happening.

A Member's Perspective WRITTEN BY JD EVANS For me, I am most excited about getting to know new people and help out my community. Since I am a freshman at North, this is my first experience with a high school club. Going into Key Club, I knew that it would be a fun way for me and my friends to not only get to know North more, but also my community. I knew that my older sisters were in Key Club, so I got an insight into what all I had to do before hand. This year has not been normal, but I still want to participate in Key Club. Even though it may not be like past years, I am excited to see what all this year brings. My first year in high school has definitely been a roller coaster, however, it is more important than ever to help others, volunteer at organizations, and stay together.
