Faith Lagge

When I first joined Key Club my sophomore year, I was already a huge fan of volunteering. I love being able to help others and see the impact on the lives changed through volunteering. The idea of a club with the main goal of volunteering and helping others was one of the biggest reasons I joined. However, I did not “fall” in love/ have the love I have for Key Club right now until my junior year. Volunteering at Project 66 made me “fall” in love with Key Club, I had no idea about Project 66 until Project 66 was my chair. By “my chair,” I mean I was in charge of talking to Project 66 about having volunteer events there. I remember the first event I had there was the night before a Calculus test. I decided to push back studying and go volunteer since I planned the event. I absolutely loved Project 66 after that night. Their organization is so wonderful and beautifully set up. I loved that they talked to all their clients personally before bringing them back to shop for food. It was so cool to me that volunteers could help clients shop for their food and essentials. Volunteers were able to see each client leave with a cart full of groceries and the impact Project 66 had on them. Without Key Club, I would not have found this amazing organization. Project 66 is a non-profit organization that is a faith-based ministry that provides food to families in need. They work to feed the local population by providing food. Along with providing food, they also strive to feed the spiritual hunger through kindness and prayer. Their goal is to feed families, children, elders, and working families who are facing difficult economic times that are undernourished. They drive to feed each family with enough food to last two week.

Elle Evans

Hi! I am Elle Evans, and I am the historian for this year’s club. I have seen first hand the club’s strive to ensure only the best for our members and officer team. Although this year has been far from normal, Edmond North’s Key Club has and will continue to remain positive during this difficult time. Our school gave students two possibilities when heading back to school: fully virtual and an AB schedule. Students who chose to go fully virtual do lessons online at their home. On the other hand, the remaining students who chose to go to school will go to school in person for two days then will work virtually for the remaining three days. With this new decision, our club was at first disheartened due to the fact that the pandemic may bring down our enrollment and it may affect our meeting operations. However, we kept a positive attitude and tried to examine and find solutions to the problems at hand. After debating these issues at our officer’s meetings, we, first and foremost, decided to put the wellbeing of our members above all other concerns. Thus, our first step was to have our monthly meetings, usually held at the school, conducted via Google Meet. Next, as a team, we found ways to connect with the members more virtually. Utilizing our team’s instagram (go follow @enhskeyclub if you have not already), we began to post more reminders and information. Officers and members can share posts to reach more people. Thus, with all this said and done, our enrollment this year has exceeded our expectations. We have a total of 81 members who joined Key Club!We have gone above and beyond into ensuring that our members are not only safe but will continue to have fun in meetings and find a passion for helping our community. Sure, we will have some bumpy steps along the way, but we will continue to try our hardest and persevere through this crazy time.

Katherine Lee As for the summer of 2020 and the beginning of this school year, we are planning on experimenting with different kinds of volunteer projects such as making home-made masks or making thank-you notes to the first responders, rather than the ones where our members have to physically go and participate. This is because as a president, I honestly care more about our officers' and our members' safety than rigorously having everyone to volunteer physically, and I do not wish to risk everyone's health.I think making home-made masks or making thank-you notes to the first responders are the best way we can serve our community at this point. We will post on how to make masks in our Key Club Instagram page, so that our members can easily access it. The Veteran's Day thank-you card social was very successful each year. So, incorporating that idea, we plan on thanking our first responders out there who are helping out others more than themselves. We are also planning on having several drives. Members can easily drop off any items they wish to donate in our sponsor's room, and we just simply have to give them to the organization we are helping out on. I think this year's drives will be most successful out of all years, since they will be one of the few ways our members can easily earn points. Covid-19 has impacted our club so much. Our school is half virtual and half traditional, so we won't be able to have any kind of socials. We did not have SPUD day this year, where our officers have the chance to recruit new members and explain how we key clubbers impact our community. However, we plan to use online resources for membership applications and actively use social media to promote whatever is going on in Key Club. This year is starting very weirdly and abnormally, but I know that we can always find new ways to serve our community. Yes, it is disappointing that we can not physically go out and help out. However, I think actively staying in our homes and finding new quarantine-friendly ways to volunteer also are ways we can contribute good to our community.

Emma Evans Hey Huskies! My name is Emma Evans & I am North Key Club's editor this year! Even though our club has not had any in-person meetings this year, that does not mean that there are no volunteering activities available. For this year, we have encouraged our members to volunteer either by themselves, or in smaller groups because we have to follow CDC and State guildlines . Some opportunities that we have encouraged doing include donating supplies to dog shelters, sending out cards to front line workers, making masks, and picking up trash. Even though this year has definitely been unconventional, I think that it is more important than ever to give back to our community and volunteer at service events. For me, my favorite service event that I have done this year is help tutor kids in preschool and first grade. Not only is it encouraging to teach our future generation, but it is fulfilling that I get to give back to my community. Whether it is helping them with their chromebooks, solving a math problem, or sounding out a word, it has been my favorite volunteering opportunity. The kids always put a smile on my face and never fail to make me laugh. With the tutoring, I have always wanted to volunteer at local animal shelters. While some are not available due to Covid this year, I am hopeful for the future that I will one day get to help out with animals. After all, giving back to my community is an important reason why I decided to join Key Club my freshman year, one of the first clubs I ever joined here at North. The organization is an essential part of helping others and it will improve our surroundings, people, and country if we all participate. Staying together is an important theme this year and I believe that we can all do good for our community if we volunteer and help others more.

Emma Evans As the largest and oldest service program for high school students in the world, Key Club has a rich and proud history. Our goal here at North is to provide service and activities to help make our high school experiences meaningful and memorable. Our members actively care about school and our community. In my personal experience, Key Club has given me opportunities for service, helped develop my leadership skills and, most importantly, given me new friendships with North students. Key Clubs core values are caring, character building, inclusiveness, and leadership. I feel that our experiences and opportunities this year in Key Club will be limitless. Being involved in my community has always been important to me. Knowing what is going on in the world around me is always something that I will strive to do. Key Club lets me connect with others at my school, but is also a part of something bigger than myself. They are an international organization with more than 300,000 members. Each and every one of those members are making an impact on their community and the people around them. From volunteering at local animal shelters, to making care packages for those who do not have enough materials, everyone is making a difference. I believe that Key Club has helped me not only meet new people from my community, but has also helped me remember the things that are truly important: including others, caring for others, and loving one another. Ever since joining Key Club my Freshman year, I have spent more than fifty hours volunteering in my community and serving those around me. It is something that I plan to continue throughout my high school experience, and has taught me lessons that I will never forget.
