What are some quarantinefriendly volunteer opportunities does your club plan on doing? "As for the summer of 2020 and the beginning of this school year, we are planning on experimenting with different kinds of volunteer projects such as making home-made masks or making thank-you notes to the first responders, rather than the ones where our members have to physically go and participate. This is because as a president, I honestly care more about our officers' and our members' safety than rigorously having everyone to volunteer physically, and I do not wish to risk everyone's health. I think making home-made masks or making thank-you notes to the first responders are the best way we can serve our community at this point. We will post on how to make masks in our Key Club Instagram page, so that our members can easily access it. The Veteran's Day thank-you card social was very successful each year. So, incorporation that idea, we plan on thanking our first responders our there who are helping out others more than themselves. We are also planning on having several drives. Members can easily drop off any items they wish to donate in our sponsor's room, and we just simply have to give them to the organization we are helping out on. I think this year's drives will be most successful out of all years, since they will be one of the few ways our members can easily earn points. Covid-19 has impacted our club so much. Our school is half virtual and half traditional, so we won't be able to have any kind of socials. We did not have SPUD day this year, where our officers have the chance to recruit new members and explain how we key clubbers impact our community. However, we plan to use online resources for membership applications and actively use social media to promote whatever is going on in Key Club. This year is starting very weirdly and abnormally, but I know that we can always find new ways to serve our community. Yes, it is disappointing that we can not physically go out and help out. However, I think actively staying in our homes and finding new quarantine-friendly ways to volunteer also are ways we can contribute good to our community," - Katherine Lee, President

Describe what changes will have to be made for this year's Key Club “Hi everyone! It’s Faith, and I will be the Vice-President this year for our Key Club. Due to the pandemic, Edmond North Key Club can not have meetings in person. As of know, we have to have them virtual through google meets. This also means we have to have all our volunteer activities virtual or by oneself. That has not stopped our club from planning virtual volunteer activities. One idea our club officers came up with was writing letters to workers in the medical field. I plan to contact hospitals asking if they’ll take thank you letters from our members. This is a great way to reach out to those on the frontline of this pandemic, and thank them for all they do and all they risk. Another idea our club officers came up with is contacting organizations we volunteered at in person before the pandemic and asking if there is anything we can do to help them. This way each officer still has chairs they are in charge of. Also, once they allow volunteers to help them again, our officers can contact the organization for our members to start volunteering at. Some organizations allow people to volunteer, but there is a limit to how many people can volunteer. A second idea our club officers have come up with is making masks for our community. These masks plan to go to hospitals, schools, and people in the community. Many hospitals are asking for masks for their health care workers. During this pandemic, I was able to make masks for Veterans Hospital. The masks were used as a protective mask for the masks below the primary mask. I plan to contact more hospitals asking if they’ll accept masks. I also plan to contact public schools asking if they need masks donated to them for their students, teachers, and staff. A final idea our club officers came up with is donating items to local organizations. The items could be anything from clothing to toys to cans of food to boxed foods. Local organizations have seen a decline in donations due to the pandemic, or they stopped accepting donations. However, they are now starting to take donations again, and they are in desperate need of donations. Also, members can go through their closets or pantries and clean out items they no longer need, wear, or want. This allows useless items one person possesses to help others in their community that need those items that are useful to them,“ - Faith Lagge, Vice President

What is your perspective on this year's Key Club? “One of my very favorite things about being involved in Key Club as an officer is that I get to see an inside perspective about what goes on to make Key Club happen. On the outside looking in, it might look pretty straightforward, but there is actually a lot of work that goes on and a lot of people that sacrifice a lot of time and effort to make Edmond North Key Club run. Several of them aren't even affiliated with Edmond North because Key Club is an international organization, so we work with Key Clubs in our district and Kiwanis personnel. As part of the officer team, I get to be one of those people and know about some of the changes we plan to implement this year. One thing I'm really excited about is the amount of volunteer opportunities we will have this year. All the organizations we have worked with in the past will still be working with Key Club, but we also have new ideas and organizations that are new to Edmond North Key Club. We will also have more collaboration projects and opportunities with other Key Clubs in the Edmond area. Reaching out to different clubs and using their ideas will increase the scope of opportunities that our members have, which is really great. This is especially important in this year, given the fact that a lot of our membership base will be split on different schedules. But, whatever format this year comes out to be, I am still extremely excited to branch out even more!Another thing that we are emphasizing this year is socials. I am not only the LTG for Division 12, but I am also our school’s social chair, which means I plan the non-volunteer events for Key Club members. In the past, our socials have been pretty infrequent, but this year I want to make them bigger and better than we have ever had them. And given that COVID-19 is still prevalent within this time, I would also like to help transition a lot of our media and general club meetings into an online format. We plan to partner with Kiwanis to make the socials happen and I want to ask our club members for ideas of what they want to do. We will keep the socials that we've done and that have been successful, but I also want to bring in some new ideas that have not been done at Edmond North before.Overall, I am really excited about what Key Club is going to be this year. We have an amazing officer team, an amazing teacher sponsor, and fantastic members that are excited to volunteer and get involved. I am so ready to grow a lot throughout this year, and be able to navigate through these times with all of you whom I consider part of our Key Club family! I can't wait to get this year started and see what our club can accomplish this year!"- Steven Fu, Division 16 LTG/Social Chair

With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting in-person meetings, how have your clubs adapted to these changes?

"Key Club meetings are a time of following and we hope to continue those good times even as we deal with Covid-19. Key Club will follow all our school suggestions and requirements. Social distancing will be utilized and masks will be required to be worn at meetings at all times. Hand sanitizer will also be available. Some of our time together may be virtual, and our meetings will have to be held through zoom or google meetings. Social media will plan a huge part in sending out information and important updates to our team. However, regardless of the way we meet, our goals and opportunities for service will remain. As of right now, our club plans to hold monthly meetings while following these guidelines. We will be flexible and ready to adapt to the needs of our community. Covid-19 has caused changes within our school, community, and state, but we still plan to care for others in the honored tradition of Key Club members," - Emma Evans, Editor

How is your Key Club experience, and what is Key Club to you?

"Hello friends! I am a Junior at Edmond North High School. I am privileged to be the club’s Historian for the 2020-2021 school year. Key Club has a proud history of service and leadership. I cannot wait to see what we, as a team, accomplish this year. When I came to North as a freshman, I was drawn to Key Club because of the opportunity to provide service to others. As the biggest club in the school, I knew it would provide opportunities to give back to my community as well as new friendships. After two years of participating in Key Club, I can truly say that it has turned into one of my most fulfilling high school experiences. The giving to others not only helps them, but also gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment. For reference, one of my favorite activities last year was helping with kids at a Kiwanis fundraiser. With assistance from other members, we painted princesses and cars on their faces. I saw their eyes light up with joy. Afterwards, I felt gratitude for this small act of kindness. I feel this year, more than any before, we need the support and strength of your fellow students to reach our goals. Key Club reinforces the motto that I hold true. Its message of caring and service are a good foundation for life," - Elle Evans, Historian
