unicef

In the United Nations, UNICEF is the only organization dedicated exclusively to children. Working with other United Nation bodies, governments, and nongovernmental organizations, UNICEF helps provide children's needs in more than 150 countries. Through community services, UNICEF strives to provide basic education, safe water, sanitation, and primary healthcare to those in need.

march of dimes Since the 1940's, Key Club's have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact on the lives of babies. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long. By hosting service projects, raising funds, and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth, March of Dimes is making a difference in the United States.

cmnh

Members work together by sponsoring, fundraising events, and conducting service projects at their local children's hospitals. In the United States, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals advocates and brings awareness to medical research and children's health & treatment issues.

WHAT DOES KEY CLUB MEAN TO YOU? Hey Huskies! My name is Emma & I am North's Key Club Editor this year. As the largest and oldest service program for high school students in the world, Key Club has a rich and proud history. Our goal here at North is to provide service and activities to help make our high school experiences meaningful and memorable. Our members actively care about our school and community. In my personal experience, Key Club has given me opportunities for service, helped me develop my leadership skills and, most importantly, given me new friendships with North students. Key Club's core values are caring, character building, inclusiveness, and leadership. I feel that if we follow these values and continue caring for each other, our opportunities this year in Key Club will be limitless.

HOW HAVE OUR GIFTS IMPACTED THOSE AROUND US? Within our community, it is always crucial that we serve and help those around us. Now, it is more important than ever, especially with COVID-19 and how it is affecting families, schools, and jobs. Whether it be through food drives, animal shelters, mask donations, or helping students read, any act of kindness will help change our society for the better. For our Key Club, we have focused on reaching out to local organizations, as well as nearby schools. In December, our members recorded themselves reading stories and books to elementary students. Not only did this help students learn to read, but it also allowed us to keep in touch with them. For organizations like Free To Live, a non-kill animal shelter located in Guthrie, Oklahoma, we have helped their animals in the past by cleaning out their pins, donating treats, and washing them. No matter the service, or helping hand, we should always have the responsibility to give others an act of kindness because there is always time to help each other.

HOW DO YOU PLAN ON INCORPORATING THE HOLIDAY'S INTO YOUR CLUB? Warmest Wishes! I am Elle Evans, and I serve as the Historian for Key Club this 2020-2021 school year. This academic year, our club has tried to spread holiday cheer to our members, school, and Edmond community. One of our top goals is for our members to develop their leadership skills and pave the way for a difference in our community. We want to shed a light on the good in the world, especially this holiday season. I am head of two community chairs: the Elementary Chair and the Husky Buddies Project Chair. We have created new volunteer opportunities to help further our service in the Edmond community. Plus, these projects continue to spread cheer in these couple of months. Our first special event, the Buddies Project, partners up with different Edmond elementary schools. Members buddy up with some of the younger students in our district, and they interact with the recipient via online or through letters. Members will create a Bitmoji of themselves by going to Bitmoji. com; of course, students will have the opportunity to deck themselves out in holiday gear of their choice. From there, students will complete various phases, aka letters or interactions, with their buddy. For example, one could create a checklist of activities that the duo could do. This could include playing a board or card game, building a fort out of blankets, or cooking their favorite meal together. New phrases will be sent out each week. We encourage our members to offer new ideas, especially seasonal ones. Each event can be done separately and fit under safety guidelines. Our other holiday fun activity we created is the Russell Dougherty Reading event. Our club will be partnering with this local Edmond elementary school to connect with kids online. To do this, members will submit a short video of themselves reading their favorite holiday story or childhood book. Moreover, students will use the app Loom to create their videos. Members are encouraged to read two stories which gets them two points! I will send the videos on to the students, so they can interact with older kids. We wanted to spread some cheer this season and give both the members and younger kids a chance to connect with each other even if it is through a screen.

HOW DO YOU PLAN ON INCORPORATING THE HOLIDAY'S INTO YOUR CLUB? Our club is participating in Angel Tree. We have chosen several kids with different ages to sponsor. With the different ages we gave plenty of options for our Key Clubbers to choose from and to earn their points. Each child will have a variety of gifts from clothes, books, and toys. Each gift our members brought was 1 point and they could earn up to 5 points and if someone didn’t want to go get a gift they could donate money and every $5 was a point and they could earn up to 3 points. We posted a signup sheet to make sure we covered the basics and made sure not too many people were getting one thing. We also got a gift for the family which was a warm blanket so they could all enjoy it during the winter. Once everyone dropped off all the gifts some of our officers got together and marked who brought what for their points. Also, while they were doing that they sorted what gift went to what child. We had a designated day to wrap gifts and each child had their own wrapping paper to go with their gifts. We also gave another opportunity to earn 1 point to help wrap if our members couldn’t buy a gift. Gift wrapping was a fun experience for everyone who came and was a nice opportunity to come together and help others. All of our Key Clubbers who came to wrap enjoyed it. Everyone was laughing at how people were wrapping their gifts but in the end they all looked good. I’m sure the kids will be happy to receive their gifts on Christmas. And I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their family.

WHAT DOES YOUR CLUB PLAN ON ACCOMPLISHING IN 2021? I am Elle Evans, and I serve as the Historian this year for Edmond North’s Key Club. Although this year has been difficult, I find that, through volunteering activities and serving others, I have grown closer with the other members and the organization and have gained knowledge in leadership skills. As the new year rings in, our club anticipates big things. One of our main goals is to have each member gain personal and professional skills that they could use in a leadership role. By being involved in their community, members will have the opportunity to be better leaders in their own life. We hope to create more projects that are inclusive. We like to grow our connection to the virtual world and gain more followers on our instagram (go follow @enhskeyclub if you have not already). Additionally, we hope to continue creating a safe environment for our members. The well being of our members and community is the most important thing in our club. Moreover, we will continue having our meetings virtually and having events limited to a certain number of people. It is crucial that we remain safe while still developing our leadership skills by serving in our school and community.
