letter from the editor Hey Huskies! My name is Emma & I am North's Key Club Editor this year.As the largest and oldest service program for high school students in the world, Key Club has a rich and proud history. Our goal here at North is to provide service and activities to help make our high school experiences meaningful and memorable. Our members actively care about our school and community. In my personal experience, Key Club has given me opportunities for service, helped me develop my leadership skills and, most importantly, given me new friendships with North students. Key Club's core values are caring, character building, inclusiveness, and leadership. I feel that if we follow these values and continue caring for each other, our opportunities this year in Key Club will be limitless. Happy reading!

MARCH OF DIMES

Since the 1940's, Key Club's have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact on the lives of babies. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long. By hosting service projects, raising funds, and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth, March of Dimes is making a difference in the United States.

Natalie Bard WHAT DOES KEY CLUB MEAN TO YOU?

Key Club has provided me the chance to have new opportunities to support the community through volunteer work with my peers. I’ve volunteered with my family for years, but being able to connect with classmates this way has been an amazing experience. We have helped thousands in the Edmond, Oklahoma area to receive food, house hold goods and clothing. My experiences volunteering with Pivot Foundation through Key Club helped me gain perspective for those that are less fortunate in my age group. Key Club helped me to funnel my passion for soccer to help athletes with disabilities. I had the privilege to help them develop at their own pace, in a safe and fun environment. Once an individual effort has now become a group of driven peers that want to make an effort in our community.

Emma Evans A SEASON OF CHANGE

"Hi Huskies! My name is Emma Evans & I am Edmond North's Key Club Editor for the 2020-2021 school year. Like Autumn, this year has definitely been a season of change. However, if there is one thing that should never change, it should be the act of helping others. From writing letters of encouragement to wrapping up Angel Tree gifts, assisting our community should never go away. In my opinion, one of the most impactful things a person can do in their life is see what they have done for their community. For me, an event that changed me as a person was helping elementary students this fall. Every Wednesday, I would come in and tutor first and second graders. Even though I taught simple lessons like addition and subtraction, it was fulfilling to work with them. It made me realize how important assisting others truly is. While this year has been unpredictable to say the least, our club has stayed together despite all the changes. We are still finding ways to reach out to others and I am excited to see what all we can do this season."

Elle Evans STAYING TOGETHER

pg. 12

"In times when we must be physically apart it is crucial that we still establish relationships with every member. I am Elle Evans and I serve as the Historian this year for Edmond North’s Key Club. Although this year has been difficult, I find that, through volunteering activities and serving others, I have grown closer with the other members and the organization and have gained knowledge in leadership skills. This year, we had to find new ways to connect with the members more virtually. Utilizing our team’s instagram (go follow @enhskeyclub if you have not already), we began to post more reminders and information. This includes posting about our virtual meeting. Since our school has limited in-person meetings, we had to switch it to fully remote. At first, I was upset because I was losing a chance to communicate with new people. However, at these remote meetings, myself and the officers have tried their best to get key points across and make it a safe, fun environment for our clubbers. We all know how to adapt to a situation at hand, and use our leadership skills to make the best out of it. We have gone above and beyond into ensuring that our members are not only safe but will continue to have fun in meetings and find a passion for helping our community."

Elle Evans DOES NORTH HAVE ANY HOLIDAY EVENTS?

"Happy Holidays! I am Elle Evans, and I serve as the Historian for Key Club this 2020-2021 school year. Moreover, I am also head of two community chairs: the Elementary Chair and the Husky Buddies Project Chair. This year, we have created new volunteer opportunities to help further our service in the Edmond community. Plus, these projects are just in time for the holiday season. Our new special event this year, the Buddies Project, partners up with different Edmond elementary schools. Members buddy up with some of the younger students in our district, and they interact with the recipient via online or through letters. Members will create a Bitmoji of themselves by going to Bitmoji.com; of course, students will have the opportunity to deck themselves out in holiday gear of their choice. From there, students will complete various phases, aka letters or interactions, with their buddy. For example, one could create a checklist of activities that the duo could do. This could include playing a board or card game, building a fort out of blankets, or cooking their favorite meal together. New phrases will be sent out each week. We encourage our members to offer new ideas, especially seasonal ones."

JD Evans A NEW PERSPECTIVE

"For me, I am most excited about getting to know new people and help out my community. Since I am a freshman at North, this is my first experience with a high school club. Going into Key Club, I knew that it would be a fun way for me and my friends to not only get to know North more, but also my community. I knew that my older sisters were in Key Club, so I got an insight into what all I had to do before hand. This year has not been normal, but I still want to participate in Key Club. Even though it may not be like past years, I am excited to see what all this year brings. My first year in high school has definitely been a roller coaster, however, it is more important than ever to help others, volunteer at organizations, and stay together. As the year continues, I am excited to see how impactful we can be on others."
