HOW DOES KEY CLUB INSPIRE ME? In everyday life, I am impacted by clubs I participate in, especially Key Club. Key Club motivates me to become a better person in serving my community. It allows me to realize the needs of people and helps me find ways to go about serving. People, who also participate in Key Club, encourage me to become a better person while helping others. This sense of friendship and a common goal enables me to recognize what needs to be done to make the world a better place. Through this Key Club community, not only are we involved in large service projects, we also become aware of the small impacts of service we can do for the people in our community. This ultimately creates a bond while making the community a more open and friendly place. Key Club has greatly impacted my everyday life and I am so grateful I have the opportunity to be apart of it.

HOW DOES KEY CLUB INSPIRE ME? On the coldest and rainiest day of March, I decided to go ahead and volunteer for the Salvation Army through Key Club. I walked up with a t-shirt and shorts. A volunteer came up and gave me a bell and an apron with the Salvation Army logo on it. Then they left me alone. A few hours pass, and people walk by, most of them dressed for the weather. Some would donate and others would just give me and my shorts a weird look and walk away. After a couple hours of waiting, an old lady walks by, and gives me that weird look again, or so I thought. She comes back from her car and puts nearly everything she was carrying in her wallet, and tells me, “I couldn’t just walk away. Without the Salvation Army, my husband would have starved to death in World War II. Thank you.” I felt odd. I didn’t think I was the person she should have been thanking, since I was only fundraising in front of the Hobby Lobby parking lot. “Thanks” is the only thing I said to her because I was too focused on my numb legs. At the end of my shift, I gave away the apron and bell to another volunteer and thought about what I had done, or the meaning of what I did. When I took the job, I thought it was insignificant, but I came to the realization that every single effort put into a cause is extremely important, since it is the baseline of every big thing, it builds up and becomes that life-saving aspect of the Salvation Army This is one of the many ways that Key Club inspires me.

HOW DOES KEY CLUB INSPIRE ME? Key club considerably impacted my life by showing me what one person could do for many. From working at food drives to local schools needing help made me realize that it only takes a group effort to change something wholly. Key club allowed me to prosper as a human being throughout the four years I have spent accumulating over 500 hours of service.

Service Partner Spotlight
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, which has been in place for around 70 years, started as a program to help kids impacted by World War II. Since then, more than 175 million dollars has been raised by participants. Key Club has partnered with UNICEF to help raise funds for preventing disease, helping refugees, etc. The annual impact is immense. It's saved so many lives and all it takes for you to help is to grab a box and trick-or-treat for UNICEF!
