This Month... On August 1, there was an officer meeting in which we talked about what we could do to improve our socials, how we could get members more involved, and how we could give you more opportunities to earn points. Don't worry, we still have an ice cream social!

From August 1 through 4, there was an opportunity to volunteer at the OKC Boathouse Foundation during the National Sprint Canoe Kayak Championship. I went along with a few of my friends. Picking up and cleaning the winning boats was a lot of fun! Lieutenant Governor Lauren Ross also volunteered, and she helped organize the medals and several other supplies. I definitely recommend that you volunteer there next year.

This Month...

On August 7, 2018, Lieutenant Governor Lauren Ross decided to host an open volunteering session at the Regional Food Bank in OKC. We did a lot in just two and a half hours; we provided 4,961 meals! Afterwards, we had a divisional council meeting in which we talked about our goals for DCON, the upcoming Fall Rally, and more.Â

SPUD During schedule pick up days for each grade, we were at a booth in the Freshman Academy. There were membership forms, point cards, and a Remind code available. If you haven't signed up yet, please get a form from Mrs. Gravchikov's room in W256.

Club Day We also had a booth in the main hall during Club Day for each grade. There were membership forms and the Remind code available. We did run out of forms for a few people, so if you haven't gotten one, go to Mrs. Gravchikov's room!

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?” -Martin Luther King Jr.

Hello Key Club Members!

My name is Alysha Siddiqi and I am beyond ecstatic to be serving you as your Key Club President for the 2018-2019 year. Like Dr. King once said, I continuously find myself asking: “What are you doing to give back to your community?” The reason I joined Key Club four years ago was not just because of the cute t-shirts they were advertising, but because I wanted to be a part of an organization that served others and established vital community service efforts within our school and community. As the new President, I strive to increase the already large influence ENHS Key Club has on our community and to encourage more individuals to join us in our mission of giving back to others. Key Club is a fantastic group that I have been lucky to be a part of, and I hope that throughout this year we will be able to successively impact Oklahoma in a positive way. I hope that our club will do justice to the legacy of individuals like Dr. King, who have epitomized exactly how imperative service is. I am excited to serve you all this year and can’t wait to see the influence Key Club has on others this year! I hope that when you ask yourself, “What are you doing to give back to your community?” participating in Key Club will be one of your answers.

Volunteering at the Food Bank by Alisha Arshad

I’ve always strived to be as empathetic, helpful, kind, and loving as I could possibly be. Some of the most memorable moments in my life have revolved around helping people. I love making someone smile; it’s like a beautiful rainbow appearing after countless hours of bland, dark clouds passing by. Just knowing that I have helped someone feel some joy warms my heart. I am enraptured by the beauty of happiness and the way it seems to make people shine. I wish that everyone could find some sort of gratitude in their lives. Unfortunately, there’s an abundance of negativity in this world. I know that it’s easy to feel anger and hate. It’s easy to complain. I believe it’s because we always see the more pessimistic sides of our lives. We don’t try to be grateful; we take shelter, food, and clothes for granted. We don’t think about how we have more than others could ever have. Approximately 842 million people suffer from hunger. About nine million die each year from it. They don’t have access to nutritious food like most of us do; they don’t have the money for it. This is definitely something to be upset about, but what if there was a way that could help ease their hunger and get them back on their feet? In Oklahoma, there’s an organization called the Regional Food Bank that does just that. Enough food is given to poor families who need it, so they don’t have to worry about grocery finances until they can afford it. Since I want these families to have that little bit of light in their lives, I decided to help.

On August 7, I volunteered with my fellow district 40 west members at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Our team consisted of Edmond North’s officers (Amal Jamshed, Lauren Ross, and Elden Bruner) along with officers from Jones and Guthrie. There were also Kiwanians and CKI present. We sorted the bread and pantry items into giant palettes that were going to be shipped out to many needy families. It was a lot of work, but it’s awesome to see so many people working together for a just cause! We ended up providing 4,961 meals. In just two and a half hours, we were able to give many other Oklahomans a reason to smile. I’m glad that I decided to volunteer there. Through Key Club, I had the opportunity to make an impact on my community, and that’s one of the reasons why I love it so much.

Governors Project  The Governors Project is about raising awareness for Alzheimer's disease. There are many ways to raise awareness for this illness, but the two that we are concentrating on are Alzheimer's Walks and Alzheimer's Month. We are planning to volunteer at the OKC walk. The color for Alzheimer's Month, which is in November, is purple, so we could wear purple and spread the word. If you have any more ideas on what our club can do, contact the Lieutenant Governor or the President listed in the Contact Info. page.

District Project The District Project this year is "Keep TO (Texas-Oklahoma) Beautiful." This means that we will try at least once a month to have a project centered around helping the environment. If you have any ideas on projects we can do, please contact the Lieutenant Governor or the President listed in the Contact Info. page.
