Warm weather, blue skies and time spent outdoors are hallmarks of spring. Springtime is a season of rebirth and renewal, and it also can be a time to refresh meal-making. Now is the time to trade in hearty, filling dishes that are perfect for cold winter nights for lighter fare. Recipes like Pasta Primavera from “Seasoned America” by chef Paul Prudhomme can be brought out in spring and enjoyed throughout the warmer seasons. In Italian, primavera means spring, making this classic, vegetable-infused pasta dish suitable for this time of year. The vegetable inclusions below can be switched out for one’s favorite produce as well.

During the competition, eight-member student teams are given the opportunity to argue both sides of a case in an actual courtroom before a judge. The students, who play the roles of lawyers, witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants, are assisted by teacher coaches and lawyer advisers in preparing for competition. Lawyers and community leaders serve as jurors for the mock trials. The juries determine the winners in each trial based on the teams’ abilities to prepare their cases, present arguments, and follow court rules. For more information about the PBA Statewide High School Mock Trial Competition, visit www.pabar.org and look for “Mock Trial Competition” under “Events and Education.”
