Endz2Endz Magazine: Issue 5

Introduction

Endz

2Endz

A group of inner city youths have come together from multiple backgrounds and tough areas of London. They met in college while studying and began to bond because they had similar interests and life experiences. Some come from negative lifestyles due to a lack of role models, poverty and a sense of neglect from society. But are now channelling their time into something fun, entertaining and positive by inspiring other youths.

The magazine is aimed at people from ages 16 through to their 20s, aiming to empower them from quite a young age because we believe that’s where it all starts.

Especially ones that have struggled growing up in tough areas and think there’s no way out. The team became good friends and got along well together with creative minds alike and founded Endz 2 Endz.

We are open to promote and meet anyone interested and willing to support the movement. We aim to work with people who are dedicated, motivated, willing to take their talents to another level, feel it’s time we come out of negative media and feel like they would like to be a part of what we are about. So feel free to contribute, and show Endz 2 Endz and the public what you’re made of.

One thing that we believe is critical, is the magazine must be young people lead, for young people to relate with each other. We enable youths to be inspired by other youths doing positive things and finding out more on issues going on in and around their communities.

Endz 2 Endz is an urban British e-magazine established in 2008. The magazine is run by young people for young people, which provides a pathway for young talented people in our communities to reach their goals. It is about showcasing young underground and established UK talents and skills. These include models, writers, fashion designers, poets, musicians, athletes, photographers and many more. We are creating a new era that provides opportunity and at the same time informing readers and giving an insight into what goes on in the society around us. It creates opportunities for those who know they have talent to show the world what they are about. We decided we want to create an ‘online magazine’ that will showcase youths talents no matter what their race, area they’re from or disability they may have-so we do not discriminate in anyway.

28

The magazine will also be looking at social issues which affect the community as a whole and individuals. We will have a topic in every issue that may be very important or has great effect on today’s society.

Arbonne Cosmetic Review Reviewed and written by Ferzana

I trained as a make up artist at the Glauca Rossi School of Makeup in 2007 and set up Inspire Me as a way to incorporate my passion for makeup with my desire to empower young women. I want them to have the realisation that true beauty lies within and it is only when you realise this, that you are truly free.

Inspire Me, Endz2Endz & Arbonne In collaborating with Endz 2 Endz and Arbonne cosmetics I found a partnership that fitted with the ethos of Inspire Me. Endz 2 Endz are a shining example of young people getting together to empower others through the use of media in a world where a single action can be virtually around the online world in seconds.

Arbonne Cosmetics Arbonne cosmetics promise pure botanical based ingredients with minerals to make your skin glow. I wanted to find out if the products would hold up to this promise. I liked the packaging and the way the make up is presented in clear minimalistic style, at first glance.

The MAKE UP PRIMER slid onto the skin leaving it baby soft and a perfect base for make up. I often use primer on make up jobs and liked the way this worked and that it contains natural plant extracts instead of chemicals to achieve that effect. Following that I applied some of the SHEER GLOW HIGHLIGHTER mixed in with a little of the PERFECTING LIQUID FOUNDATION with SPF 15 to get all over colour on the face. Foundation is often the hardest product to find yet it is one of the most important as it sets the base for everything else. I really liked the fact that Arbonne offer a broad colour range across a range of skin tones that cater for all ethnicities. Concealer was a bit more difficult as unfortunately the 3 shades offered in CREME CONCEALER did not extend far enough on the darker spectrum so I had to mix in some of the darkest one with the right foundation to create the shade I needed. The NATURAL RADIANCE MINERAL POWDER FOUNDATION with SPF 15 offered a good colour range and gave the models a beautiful glow. It was a shame the SHEER PRESSED POWDER colour range was not as extensive as the foundations as sometimes you want to achieve a more matte look. The BLUSH colours were beautiful and vibrant and the mineral infused pigments made cheeks look full of life.

Photographer Sophie Le

EYESHADOWS blended on really well and were great to achieve daytime or sultry evening looks but lacked bright pop colours that make you go WoW. The LIQUID EYELINER in black glided on effortlessly leaving a clean line. Definitely an essential for the make up bag! The Arbonne LIPSTICKS gave model’s lips a bright moisture rich look and stayed on well, RUNWAY ROUGE is definitely a showstopper! The LIP POLISHES added a non-sticky shining sparkle to lips in a vibrant range of colours to suit everyone. My Opinion As a professional makeup artist, I liked the Arbonne cosmetics range from packaging to flawless finish. The foundation colour range was brilliant and offered a real variation of skin tones. The only things I would change is increasing the range of concealers and powders to match the foundations. Eyes and lips are well catered for with stunning shades to enhance your natural features. I would use Arbonne cosmetics on future jobs and on myself as I love the ethos behind the products - pure botanical ingredients enhancing the skin from the inside.

The Endz next top model

Interviewed by Tyrone Smiley

Beauty is one of her power and her sword is her smile Olu express her factor of winning the Endz next top model. hat was it like wining the Endz next Top Model competition? OL: It was surprising! I don’t think I’ve ever won a competition. It was an amazing experience though - now I know what it feels like to be on Xfactor!

id you think you were going to win the competition? OL: I didn’t have a clue. I was up against 2 gorgeous girls, and when the audience was cheering, I was slightly nervous and was sure at one point I heard more cheers for someone else!

OL: 1 year and a few months. I started Last July.

hat your style in fashion? OL: Quirky, surprising, unconventional, daring, flexible & ‘I-don’t-care’.

s make up accessories an essential thing to you in your life?

ho inspires you in the modeling industry? OL:Tough one - I’d say Alek Wek. I love her unconventional look, her character and because I can relate in a few ways. I love her astonishing life story - going from a Sudanese Refugee to an international supermodel.

o you think the modeling industry is niche in what it’ looking for? OL: The industry is full of niches: there are runway models, high fashion models for editorial, fitness models and bodypart models though it’s always good to be versatile. Then looks change every season and it’s subjective too.

hat’s the worst thing you have heard from a judge? OL: It was my first casting ever and I was told I was an embarrassment to black models because I looked down halfway down the runway. The casting director told me a huge NO in front of quite a few people and told me to leave as quickly as possible. I had to see it as a lesson - in the industry - you need thick skin!

w ww. e n d z 2 e ndz . com www.endz2endz.com

ow long have you been modeling for?

20

OL: Make up has never been a big part of my life In fact it never was a part of my life until a year ago when I was told I needed to take my own foundation to the first show I had to do. I have bought it since then but it has never been something I can’t leave my house without.

hat advise do you have for up and coming models who would like to break their way through the industry? OL: Be realistic - ask yourself what you want to achieve and what niche would you like to go into? Remain thick skinned, find friends who are positive; be a good networker - keep in touch with people at shows and events and don’t ever be afraid to ask. Join Model Mayhem, treat people with respect, be passionate about what you do - read magazines, get ideas, learn from others who are doing well, build your portfolio and be versatile with it every opportunity you get. Be wary of ‘nude’ or ‘erotic’ shoots; don’t be afraid to approach a good agency. And at every opportunity - thank GOD you’re alive and healthy enough to get it regardless of if you get the gig - there will always be more shows/ shoots/opportunities!

Her Soft caramel skin big brown eyes seductive looking lips beautiful blonde hair body of a stripper her scent of Angel.

Beauty

Her lovely face is like a everlasting case of lust which my body would die of without the vision of a face so sweet

Your looks don’t define you Your image represents a small fraction of the beauty that lye’s inside you Need I remind you?

My body can never get enough of such beauty every man desires The kind of beauty that can make a blind man see

My Kings and Queens a beautiful personality is a must Let beauty come from within From the darkest complexion you can find the brightest love Perpetuating through that soft skin

Her silky red dress which compliments her skin tone, legs so smooth it could make my heart glow

(Graphic designer) Sasha Pirthee

I’m thinking love; I’m thinking first kisses to a loved one’s hugs I’m thinking warmth; I’m thinking time’s where I’ve been lost

She looks so clean she could make my soul pure Her beauty’s like a walking miracle which can make the rain stop sun shine sky blue war stop

The beautiful struggle it took that helped shaped my mental form, I’m thinking moments; In fact I think we need to talk. About the Beauty of life especially to my black Queens

Her picture so perfect teeth so white when ever she’s around her beauty takes me away from the pain I could see heaven in her eyes and paradise in her smile

And how we need to nurture and love Our black kings and not to loathe them. Young Pretty eye’s it might be a disguise

My unconditional love for beauty will never die till death do us part.

We need to communicate in depth on a level playing field To find the beauty of what one truly possesses inside

The World Wears Make – Up The world wears makeup...

Decision making

The beauty of the world as we see it is hidden in so much

She brand new, so seductive and appealing

The light of the day...the silky leaves covered with mildew soft to the touch

A beauty spot at the side of her cheek Does it represent beauty? Or a cause through genetic genes

The night...although dark...is still filled with light...and the beautifully ugly things

She 5ft 5 the average height Sophisticated woman who reach to my limits Silky black hair and Hazel brown eyes, which temps my lips to say hi.

As beautiful women are involved in drunken bar fights...syringes and nostrils Clean cut the next day as office jobs they attend...head pounding liver on the mend

What separates me from an average Joe? I got a heck of a flow I’m confident enough to approach her I got a brave heart just like Bruce Willis

The world without the high rise buildings and kids at play

I approach her with courage and rage She’s laughing and smiling giving me time in her day

The drunken nights and the bar hopping would seem so plain...it seems That the world wears make up...because it’s covered in colours

As I about to get the number she asked me my age Should I tell her I’m still in school? and I’m mature for my age Or should I get the number and tell her another day.

These colours that emit nothing but beauty to whoever lays eyes on its canvas The light of the morning is its fresh faced beauty...

Question

I’ve got stretch marks on my belly, and they’re really bothering me. I’ve had them for ages and although they’ve faded in colour, they can still been seen. I’ve had a look online for creams that might help, but there are so many I ended up getting confused. Do you know of any that will actually work? Answer

(Graphic designer) Will kay Oddkingdom

Firstly, please remember that stretch marks are very common. When the skin stretches very suddenly through growth or weight gain or loss, part of the skin’s structure is damaged and this shows on the surface as stretch marks. Although they may appear very red/purple when they first appear, they will fade to white in time. It’s worth knowing a lot of creams that claim to work for stretch marks are generally ineffective, as the changes in the skin’s structure happens deep down, and creams can only ever work on the superficial levels. You may find that self-tanning creams can help hide the appearance of stretch marks, though this won’t change them permanently. But Vitamin A and E creams and cocoa butter cream are often recommended for the softening of scars and are available in most chemists. Diary... Question

My lips are really dry and I have to apply vaseline to them every day. It makes me self-conscious - I’ve never even kissed a girl. What’s wrong with my lips and what can I do to make them better? Answer

Dry lips can be caused, amongst other things, by very hot and cold temperatures, general dehydration and stress. There are preventative measures you can take to protect your lips, including making sure you drink lots of water. Skin conditions such as eczema often cause dry lips, as do allergic reactions to any product you use on or around your lips. Licking your lips when they are already dry and cracked may cause them to become even more dry once the saliva has evaporated, so try to avoid doing this if you can. Applying an unperfumed lip-balm or simply petroleum jelly throughout the day will help prevent any more moisture escaping from your lips and help soothe any soreness. If your dry lips are causing you discomfort, or continue to cause you problems over a prolonged period of time, you may like to get in contact with your local doctor (GP) to check that it is not a symptom of an underlying condition. It seems that your dry lips are having an impact on your confidence around girls. This is understandable, but try to remember that hardly anyone is completely happy with their appearance. It’s quite likely that any girl you meet will have some concern about her appearance too. http://www.thesite.org/healthandwellbeing/askthesiteqandas/generalhealthqandas/chappedchap
