n ongoing expansion has been shaping the company as they further ingratiate themselves into the oil and gas industry as well as into offering other products, “We
have a well division, design, blasting, painting, plumb maintenance and heavy transport,” Fatiha goes on to explain that they realized early on that by supplying products they were able to direct themselves as necessary throughout the industry as they wanted to create a one stop shop for the industry, “Asturi is an umbrella company and we gain an extension of the business through our ten subsidiaries throughout Malaysia.” For a company of this size with such a prominent position in the Malaysian area Fatima is ideally placed to comment on the current state of the industry there, “The biggest challenge this year, has its origins in 2013,” she says, “One of our major customers is Petronas and now that the market and available tenders have been made available to international bidders, they have changed their policy and now projects are handed out through top level management,” this has created a situation where it is no longer purely down to the efficiency and reputation of a contractor but especially in the local market with local companies it’s created a price war. As an example of this Asturi can’t get all of their raw materials from Malaysia so they need to import from Europe and America but at the same time are competing against the likes of Samsung who are able to get all their materials from native suppliers and thereby

keep their prices low. But where Asturi does stand out is the strength of its experience
