Comet’s R Galaxy Guaranteed safe, ergonomic and easy to use. These are the distinctive features of the Comet R family: 5-axis CNC machining centres designed for working bars or parts in aluminium, PVC, light alloys in general and steel. In the I version, the servocontrolled clamps independently position themselves in the working field faster compared with the standard version. Comet R comes with an 8.5 kW electrospindle in S1 that also enables performing the heavy-duty machining typical of the industrial sector. Electrospindle rotation along B and C axes allows working on 5 sides of the profile, without having to reposition it. Built into the carriage is a 12-place tool magazine that also holds a blade with a maximum diameter of 250 mm. The mobile worktable facilitates the workpiece loading/unloading operation fully ergonomically, and significantly increases the machinable section on the Y-axis.
Touchscreen interface The command and control unit, with suspended interface, allows the operator to view the screen from any position, thanks to the possibility of rotating the monitor on its vertical axis. The operator interface has a 24” touchscreen display in 16:9 format, portrait mode, with all the USB connections necessary to interface with a remote PC and NC. An operator panel and mouse, in addition to the set up for connecting a barcode reader, remote operator panel and front USB port, complete the equipment.

STRENGTH AND CONTROL Power and flexibility of the electrospindle The 8.5 kW electrospindle in S1 with high torque also enables performing the heavy-duty machining typical of the industrial sector. To further increase performance, a 10.5 kW electrospindle with encoder for rigid tapping is available as optional. The 4th and 5th axes allow the electrospindle to rotate in CNC from –15° to 90° on horizontal axis, and from -360° to +360° on continuous vertical axis, to machine the top and all the side faces of the profile, without having to reposition it. It can be used on certain types of extruded steel and on aluminium profiles, thanks to the availability of a lubrication system, settable by software, whose twin tank allows the use of both minimal diffusion oil and oil emulsion mist.

LIGHTS AND COLOURS
Glass protection Design and function come together in pursuit of the operator’s health and safety. The care and attention given to researching the materials confirm this. Safe, perfect, resistant, long-lasting. These are the advantages of choosing glass for protecting the new Comet machining centres. Machine glass cuts operate to flag machine statuses, thanks to a light colour interface. The whole visor slides downwards, thus making it easier to load the pieces; additionally, the ends feature an aluminium guard that acts as a support plane if needed.
ALWAYS NEAR
Tool magazine The tool magazine is integrated in the X-axis, placed in the lower section and in a recessed position with respect to the electrospindle, and allows reducing the time for the tool change operation. Particularly useful for machining the head and tail of the extrudate, it enables avoiding the run to reach the magazine. The magazine can contain up to 12 tool holders with respective tools, that can be configured at the discretion of the operator. Every position of the tool holder is supplied with a sensor that detects the correct positioning of the cone.
Foldaway tunnel Integrated with the machine’s aesthetics and design, thanks to the perforated sheet metal for transparency and lightness, the tunnel opens and closes as needed. As its length can be reduced when not in use, it helps save space at the workshop. The outlet for the chip conveyor belt and its engine are built into the lower section, in view of an aesthetic and functional design.
GHOST TUNNEL
Automatic clamps In various Comet R models, profile clamping is ensured by pneumatic clamps with automatic positioning. The clamps table moves along the Y-axis to facilitate profile loading and increase the working field. Positioning heights are always managed by NC, which means significantly reduced handling times, precise positioning, and zero errors due to manual intervention. In the Comet R4 model, the carriage hooks each clamps unit and moves it to the position established by control.
WHAT YOU WANT
HP version In the Comet R6HP model, the machine has two additional H and P axes with numerical control that handle two independent systems that can position the clamps in concurrent time, and position the workpiece reference stops along the whole length of the machine. This allows operating in dynamic multi-piece double operation. The machine therefore has two operation modes: a single work area for bars up to 7 m long, or two independent work areas in double operation.
I version In the I version (Comet R4I and R6I), the servocontrolled clamps, each with its own motor, can independently position themselves in the working field. The CNC simultaneously manages the handling of the clamps and the head of the electrospindle in the two different working fields in double operation. The clamps in dynamic double operation independently position themselves in concurrent time with respect to the spindle machining processes in the opposite working field. This enables significant increases in productivity, which are appreciable in the cut and separate function. The use of absolute reference axes enables reducing the time for machine initialisation at each restart.
