d e l y t S s y a d n u S 20SS: WHAT IS STYLED SUNDAYS?

20SS: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

ML: Styled Sundays provides personal styling services to assist men and women in rebuilding their wardrobe. My services include visiting peoples home and assisting them in editing their closets. Then we go shopping together!

ML: I visit my clients at their homes and we begin with their closet. First things first, a huge closet purge!

20SS: HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS BUSINESS IDEA?

ML: Get all new matching hangers and book a consultation with me.

ML: I was inspired to start Styled Sundays while working for a stylist who is based in Vancouver. I take care of all of her social media, posting daily about currents trends and what is up and coming in the fashion world. I decided that it would be time to finally share my knowledge of how to properly dress. If there’s anything I am sure about, it is the way I dress. So I decided I should spread my knowledge so others could look good and feel great too. 20SS: WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTELE? ML: My clientele ranges from women and men in their late 20`s just starting their careers to women wanting to update their wardrobe. I also have a few clients who are women post pregnancy or people seeking new relationships and need assistance in picking out the perfect outfit,

20SS: ANY TIPS FOR US TO GET A HEAD START AT CLEANING OUT OUR CLOSETS?

20SS: WHAT SHOULD BE A PART OF OUR WINTER WARDROBE THIS SEASON? ML: This winter be sure to have at least one shearling piece it could be a scarf, hat or even a coat . During these cold winter months it’s what is on the outside that counts! If you are considering purchasing a high quality Parka this year seek out a classic one that is timeless. As for accessories leg warmers cable, knit head wraps, oversized infinity scarves. Wool mittens with fur cuffs, toques with large fur or wool pom pom. Beneath all of your winter wear I suggest layering. A cute knitted sweater over a plaid or Chambray shirt with a statement necklace is an easy go-to outfit for the winter. Paired with your favourite denim, or even a cute wool skirt with tights and knee high socks of course!

The Ruberto’s Owners | Peppi Panini

WE CAUGHT UP WITH TONY, ROSA AND FRANK (FEATURED IN PICTURE ABOVE LEFT TO RIGHT) TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THEIR NEW PANINI PLACE IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN SUDBURY. WHAT IS PEPPI PANINI AND WHERE IS IT LOCATED? Peppi Panini is located on 93 Durham St. and is one of Sudbury’s newest downtown eatery’s. Peppi Panini brings Nonna and Nonno’s secret recipes to Sudbury with fresh foods made daily on site. The menu carries a variety of items including; fresh paninis, pastas, salads and soups. Peppi Panini is also the new late night hot spot after your Friday and Saturday nights on the town.

WHEN YOU AREN’T AT WORK WHAT CAN YOU BE FOUND DOING? We are all very family oriented people so when we have time on our hands we are usually prepping for a family gathering. Most of this time spent with family is usually in the kitchen cooking and eating! When it comes to us as individuals we each have our hobbies. Frank loves sneaking away to play the odd video game or riding his motorcycle, Tony enjoys his old cars and his camp and Rosa looks forward to time with her grandchildren and heading up to camp. BEST TIP YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

The satisfaction of watching our customers enjoy our food.

Our mother and father have always taught us to use the best quality in the foods we make. This means sticking to recipes that work and using the freshest of ingredients. And so far it seems to be working as business is booming!

SOMETHING INTERESTING PEOPLE DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU?

HOURS OF OPERATION

Peppi Panini is named after our father, Guiseppi Ruberto . The Italian nickname for Guiseppi as you may have guessed is Peppi.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY : 9AM-6PM

FAVOURITE PART OF WHAT YOU DO?

CRAZIEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE WORKING? “ I was cleaning tables at Peppi one afternoon and bumped into the actor, Ethan Hawke. I asked him if he felt like taking a picture and was very pleased with his answer. Pretty cool guy actually.” - Frank Ruberto

WE LIVE UP HERE WANTS YOU TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR CITY WE CAUGHT UP WITH ANDREW KNAPP FROM WE LIVE UP HERE TO CHAT ABOUT THEIR SECOND BOOK FILLED WITH PHOTOS FROM LOCAL PHOTOGRAHPERS. INSIDE INFO: YOU MAY REMEMBER THESE GUYS FROM 20 SOMETHING SUDBURY’S FIRST EVER COVER. 20SS: WHAT IS WE LIVE UP HERE ALL ABOUT? AK: In lame terms, WLUH is about strengthening community through art. But ultimately, it’s about giving as a way to receive and living more productively. A lot of our ethics and beliefs about community, sustainability and progress lead us to a lot of our decisions. One thing we believe is that exploring your city, your community, your neighbourhood leads to building relationships and fosters inspiration. Inspiration then leads to more creation and the cycle restarts. Explore, inspire, create. 20SS: HOW DID THE PROJECT START? AK: At a game of porketta bingo at a friends place, Christian and I chatted about this project idea, and we knew it had to happen. What we learned from this, knowing that this project likely wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for that game of porketta bingo, is that hanging out in the right atmosphere is imperative to let ideas germinate. And so, we really aim to change our surroundings, create this atmosphere, and facilitate this type of stuff.

20SS: HOW HAS THE RESPONSE BEEN FOR THE BOOKS? WILL THERE BE A VOLUME 3? AK: The response for the books have been unreal. The community support we’ve received is really what shaped this thing into what it is today, and we’re so grateful for that. No promises for Volume 3, but we’re spending a lot of time working on public art, art installations, events and the likes as another method to connect people. These methods build and strengthen relationships and that’s when the magic happens. 20SS: WHERE CAN WE BUY A COPY AND GET MORE INFORMATION ON WE LIVE UP HERE? AK: We’ll have a list up on our website as to where you can buy it in town shortly. Or you can grab it online and pick it up at store.weliveuphere.com P.S. Stay tuned for details on WLUH’s newly announced multi-venue festival extravaganza UP Fest this summer. / weliveuphere If you like WLUH you should also check out /Sudbury in Colour and www.sudburians.com

20SS: WE ARE SEEING A LOT MORE MOVIES BEING FILMED IN SUDBURY, WHY IS THIS?

20SS: WHAT MOVIES TO DATE HAVE BEEN FILMED IN SUDBURY WITH HIDEAWAY PICTURES?

DA: The initial spark for film production to come to Sudbury was a direct result of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund incentivizing the region and making it cost effective to come up here. Since then, we’ve seen a lot of service companies establish themselves in the North, like The Northern Ontario Film Studios. I hear time and again that because NOFS is here, it has allowed productions to be a little more flexible with what they can shoot, as the studio provides them with a controlled environment year round. A movie like Ice Soldiers would not have been able to film in the North without accessibility to a studio. And now that we have the production vehicles, grip, lighting and camera equipment, NOFS has allowed the area to be even more cost effective to productions as they don’t have to bring anything in. It’s all here.

DA: Hideaway Pictures is a different company than The Northern Ontario Film Studios. Hideaway Pictures focuses on the production side of the business, developing and making films whereas The Northern Ontario Film Studios provides support to productions in the form of studio/office space, trucks, equipment and all the things you’ll need to film here.

20SS: WHERE DID THE NAME HIDEAWAY PICTURES COME FROM ? DA: I’ve been in the film industry for almost 15 years, and have worked on film sets all over the world. While away, I’d tell everyone how great it is to live in Northern Ontario. I always really wanted to find a way to do what I love, which is making films, in the place that I love. So Hideaway is my hidden paradise. It’s ironic that something I wanted to keep to myself is now becoming a very hot location for others to film too. I hope they love it as much as I do. As for my logo, the boy in the tree represents anyone who has pondered over his/her dreams in life. I’m just lucky that I get to live mine. 20SS: TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE RECENT STUDIO CHANGES. WHY THE CHANGES? DA: The recent studio changes are just an extension of the improvements we wanted to make to the Barrydowne Arena. It has taken 3 years to put it all together. When we first leased the building, it was falling apart, roof leaked, plumbing didn’t work, no heat, etc. but we saw the potential of what it could be. Since then, we’ve created over 3000 square feet of production offices, a beautiful boardroom and craft kitchen, hair/makeup/wardrobe facilities and an equipment house. It’s a one stop shop for everything you need to to make your film, no matter what the size of the production. Also, we have training rooms and allow schools with film programs, film unions workshops to work and train in a professional environment. Since we’ve been here, we’ve taken on all the expenses from the city, added to the value of a city building and have attracted $30M of film production to the city. 20SS: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO PURSUE A CAREER IN FILM LIVING IN SUDBURY? DA: Pick up a camera and make a movie. It’s just like riding a bike. The more you do it, the better you get. Read every book about film that you can get your hands on and learn from those who came before you and have made all the mistakes you will do before you get good at it. Maybe you can avoid a few mistakes along the way.

To date, Hideaway Pictures has been involved in 10 productions and The Northern Ontario Film Studios has provided support to at least 20 productions. 20SS: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS? DA: A great idea is just that, an idea. Unless you put a plan into place, and take steps towards making that idea a reality, nothing will happen.Your biggest fan is yourself. Nobody cares more about your idea than you. So don’t listen to anyone trying to bring you down. Surround yourself by positive people and just go out and do it. I’m haunted by the idea that if I only work 8 hours a day, there is someone who is working 9 hours on the same thing. If you want to succeed and be the best, you have to work hard for it. 20SS: THE FILM INDUSTRY HAS COME A LONG WAY IN SUDBURY WITH OVER 6 MOVIES BEING FILMED HERE LAST YEAR ALONE STARING MANY WELL KNOWN ACTORS. HOW PROUD ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IS? DA: I’m very proud to be able to make movies in my hometown. If I was doing this somewhere else, it wouldn’t feel as good. Having my friends and family see our hometown portrayed on the big screen is really gratifying for me. Biggest accomplishment? I still haven’t reached them yet. I don’t really think about what I’ve accomplished, but look to what still needs to be done. WWW.HIDEAWAYPICTURES.COM WWW.NOFSTUDIOS.COM /HIDEAWAYPICTURES /HIDEAWAYPIX

20SS: WHAT IS IT LIKE MODELLING IN NORTHERN ONTARIO? BM: Modelling in Northern Ontario has been a great experience. There are so many talented photographers just in our community who make every photo shoot an absolute pleasure. I am very grateful to have had the opportunities to work with the photographers I have so far, and I cannot wait for future opportunities with those same talented people and new ones too! 20SS: DO YOU THINK THERE ARE MORE OPPORTUNITIES NOW FOR MODELS IN SUDBURY? BM: I believe the opportunities for models here in Sudbury are growing vastly. By networking I have been able to easily get in contact with photographers and film companies who were interested in working with me here in Sudbury. 20SS: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE SHOOT SO FAR? BM: My favourite shoot to date would have to be my most recent Christmas shoot I did with BLIK Photography. He was professional but very fun to work with. I absolutely loved how quick he was with the final product and how amazing the photos turned out! 20SS: FAVOURITE LOCAL HOT SPOTS? BM: You can catch me enjoying a live band or watching a hockey game at a pub, however my favourite hotspot is my best friend’s house - sitting around someone playing a guitar, singing and sharing laughs with great people! 20SS: WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? BM: I plan to continue modelling and acting out of Sudbury, close to friends and family until I am ready to explore the world on my own as a flight attendant! 20SS: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE? BM: My biggest challenge has been making the decision of putting the busy lifestyle of flight attending on hold to pursue modelling and staying close to my family and friends…and my kitten! 20SS: CAN YOU TELL US SOMETHING READERS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU? BM: I recently did my first photo shoot that will be published with Zebra Calendar Productions in 2016, so I am really excited to see the final product! /BECCADIAMONDMCGREGOR @BECCAADIAMOND

YOUR

NEW YEAR’S FITSOLUTIONS IT’S NO DOUBT THAT MANY OF US HAVE MADE FITNESS AND HEALTH RELATED NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS. IF YOU THINK THIS IS THE YEAR YOU’LL COMPLETELY OVERHAUL YOUR DIET, LOSE 30 POUNDS AND BECOME A MARATHONER, YOU COULD BE RIGHT. HOWEVER, MAKING SUCH AMBITIOUS GOALS WILL PROBABLY JUST SET YOU UP FOR FAILURE. THE KEY TO FITNESS GOALS IS FINDING A BALANCE BETWEEN CHALLENGE AND ATTAINABILITY. HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU HELP KEEP YOU ON TRACK WITH YOUR FITNESS RESOLUTIONS. SET A REALISTIC RESOLUTION. Give thought to your time frame. Losing 20 pounds in a month isn’t only unrealistic; it’s dangerous. Severe caloric restriction as a means for weight loss may get you quick results, but you’ll also likely suffer from extreme fatigue and a long list of other complications that can come with rapid weight loss. Staying motivated will be easier if you set a more realistic time frame of 6 months for such a weight loss goal. KEEP IT SIMPLE. So you want to lose some weight and you’re prepared to go to great lengths to do it. You’ve got plans to cut out all refined sugar from your diet, and restrict your fat consumption. These changes would likely be very beneficial to your health; however, they’d also be incredibly difficult to attain for most people. Instead of using radical all-or-nothing measures, adopt a healthier diet by incorporating more water, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It’s ok to enjoy a slice of pizza every once in a while, and having a piece of cake at your friend’s birthday party isn’t going to kill you. Incorporating healthier choices into your diet while also allowing yourself some flexibility will make it easier to maintain momentum as you pursue your goals. STRIVE FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN HEALTH. Having the right mindset in making a lifestyle change is crucial. If the sole reason you created your resolution was to look better in a bathing suit, you may have difficulties with compliance in the long-term. If your main focus is improving your health, (with the added benefit of looking great in a bathing suit) you’ll likely find it easier to retain your motivation even on days when it’s hard to notice outward physical changes. TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Tell your friends and family about your goals! This way you’ll have someone other than yourself to be accountable to. An additional benefit will be the extra support from your friends, who will likely want you to succeed just as much as yourself!
