Beauty www.20somethingsudbury.ca STEP TWO

Yo u r

STEP THREE

Perfect

STEP FOUR

Lip

STEP FIVE

For best results I like to use a lip scrub before applying a bold lip for the day/evening. If you have a favourite scrub, use that. If not, I like to make a homemade scrub with all natural and organic ingredients such as:

MATTE

GLOSSY

* 1tbs Coconut Oil * 1tbs Raw Cane Sugar * 1tbs Organic Honey Apply a thick layer of the scrub to your lips after you have cleansed your face (make sure to towel dry before applying). Scrub the product on your lips in a circular motion for about 30 seconds – wash off with warm water and towel dry. Then apply your daily moisturizer over your face, lips, and neck.

STEP ONE: Apply daily makeup routine minus your lips.

STEP EIGHT

STEP TWO: Apply lip stain of desired colour to lip line carefully then fill in the rest of your lips. Add a translucent lip balm on top.

MATTE: Grab an eye shadow or loose pigment the same colour (or close to) as your lipstick and press onto lips... If you do not have this colour of pigment just use a translucent powder “Smack” together and there you go!

STEP THREE: Apply lip liner of chosen colour to the outline of your lips and colour in the rest of your lips.

GLOSSY: Grab your desired gloss and apply evenly but remember not too much! Less is more.

STEP FOUR: Apply a thick layer loose translucent powder on top of your lips and wipe away excess.

STEP EIGHT: Clean up any residue with a concealer brush and a touch of foundation or concealer, this will make the outer lines of your lips perfect and really pop!

STEP FIVE: Using a lip brush and your desired lipstick apply lipstick to the middles of your lips and spread evenly on both top and bottom. Line your lips with the brush carefully. STEP SIX: Grab your lip liner once again and line the outer line of your lips where it is needed.

There you have it your perfect, long lasting lips! Use this tutorial for every colour. I chose red because it is one of my favorites and easy to see. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and try it out for your next upcoming event or everyday look! Thanks for reading. xxo

STEP SEVEN: Decide weather you would like Matte or Glossy lips for your look…

YES & SUDBURY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA P R E S E N T

Les Misérables: IN CONCERT

UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK YOU’VE LIKELY HEARD OF THE MUSICAL LES MIS – MAYBE YOU EVEN KNOW A SONG OR TWO. THE 2012 MUSICAL FILM FOR WHICH ANNE HATHAWAY WON AN OSCAR (AND ALSO STARING JUST ABOUT ANY HOLLYWOOD ACTOR WHO CAN CARRY A TUNE) REALLY MADE THE MUSICAL PALATABLE FOR EVEN THE NON-THEATREGOING CROWD. WE GOT IN TOUCH WITH ALESSANDRO COSTANTINI AND GOT THE INFO ON THE LAST PERFORMANCE OF YES THEATRE’S 5TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON LES MIS: IN CONCERT. 20SS: WHAT IS THE MUSICAL LES MIS ALL ABOUT? AC: Les Mis is a story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice, redemption and the human spirit – all set against the backdrop of 19th century revolutionary France. The main character Jean Valijean has just been released on parole after spending 19 years in prison for stealing bread. After a bishop offers Valijean the means to start a new life he breaks parole, assumes a new identity and becomes a wealthy factory owner. A ruthless policeman named Javert spends years trying to track down Valijean for breaking parole. When Valijean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s young daughter Cosette, their lives are changed forever, as are the lives of every citizen in a France filled with change and political upheaval. 20SS: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CONCERT PERFORMANCE AND A REGULAR PRODUCTION? AC: In a concert version of a musical the production leaves behind the spectacle of the lights and major action sequences you would usually see in a full scale production. Instead we will use the occasional prop and minor movement to really give the music centre stage to deliver the emotion of the story. 20SS: WHERE DOES THE SUDBURY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA COME INTO PLAY?

D E C E M B E R 1 7 - 1 9 , 2 0 1 4 | 730PM GLAD TIDINGS AUDITORIUM 1101 REGENT STREET $ 3 5 A D U LT S $25 STUDENTS/SENIORS

AC: For this production because the music really is the highlight of the show we wanted to make it stand out by having a full bold live orchestra performing with us. So often the audience is focused on the person on stage and we have a ton of talent in our cast for sure but the music and the musicians playing are really the backbone of any musical production. Having a live orchestra adds another level to the performance experience and we’re so happy to be working with the SSO for the production. 20SS: WHERE CAN WE GET MORE INFORMATION AND TICKETS? AC: Les Mis: In Concert will run December 17-19 at Glad Tidings Auditorium (1101 Regent St). You can find tickets on either of our websites $35 for adults $25 for students and seniors. For information or tickets look for YES Theatre facebook or visit www.yestheatre.com or Sudbury Symphony Orchestra on facebook or www.sudburysymphony.com.

Andrea Solski Singer/Songwriter

20SS: WHO INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A SINGER/SONGWRITER? AS: Strong female vocalists of the 90’s like Alanis Moissette & Gwen Stefanie were very influential to me growing up. But the city of Sudbury produces so much talent that I have to admit, the people I find the most inspiring now are the musicians I call friends. 20SS: WHAT’S YOUR MOTTO OR ADVICE THAT YOU LIVE BY? AS: I have always found “seize the moment” to be the most straightforward and rewarding motto to live by. 20SS: WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG TO SING YOUR HEART OUT TO AT THE BAR FOR KARAOKE OR IN THE CAR? AS: I don’t do much Karaoke singing anymore and I walk more now than ever before. I always have music plugged into my ears while I’m walking downtown. I suppose anything that strikes that emotional chord in me will get me singing.

20SS: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT THIS YEAR? AS: I’d have to say that recording and writing original music that I am proud of would definitely be my proudest accomplishment to date. 20SS: WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR MUSIC WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR MOTIVATION FROM AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT THE PROCESS? AS: It’s all very emotional for me. Most of my lyrics come from personal experience or feelings I get when reading other people’s stories. I am really empathetic and I often pull from that. The best part is getting goose bumps when I feel like I’ve combined the right emotion with the perfect melody. Music is, ultimately, a feeling. 20SS: FOR READERS WHO HAVEN’T HEARD YOUR MUSIC CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN 5 WORDS? AS: Diverse, Raw, No Sugar coating ;)

20SS: WHAT ARE 3 THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? AS: Music, my loved ones & passion 20SS: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS? AS: I am such a go-with-the-flow type of person that it’s impossible for me to see myself anywhere in particular. I can only hope that my music will have touched people the way other people’s art has touched me. Besides that, I just want to travel and see the world. 20SS: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE LOCAL PLACES TO EAT OR SHOP? AS: Fromagerie Elgin is my ultimate favourite place! I’m not much of a shopper, but I definitely keep it local. Everyone benefits from supporting mom & pop shops.

20SS: WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDS CAN READERS FIND MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR MUSIC. INCLUDING RADIO STATIONS TO HEAR YOUR SONG TEKNICOLOR ? AS: I have my own Facebook page for updates on all of my performing outlets at www.facebook.com/solskiandrea. You can visit www.facebook.com/noSugsmusic & twitter.com/NoSugs for upcoming gigs, as well as www.youtube.com/user/NoSugsMusic to hear anything new from us. Teknicolor in its original form or UK Remix can be purchased on iTunes. It’s number one on Hamilton’s smooth Jazz station Wave FM, it plays on local radio stations Le Loup FM & CBC. The dance remix also plays on Kiss FM in the evenings. Requests do make a difference though, so if you want to hear it more often, you know what to do ;) Request! Go to shows! Support local music!

20SS:WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES? WHAT INSPIRES YOU? DG: My biggest influences since I started writing was always life. Struggles, love, loss and adventure have always played a huge factor in my writing. The more places I lived, the more people I met, the more stories I had to tell. Music was never about the spotlight for me, it was about being able to say the things I could not. – Anais Nin quotes, “the role of the writer is not to say what we can all say but what we are unable to say.” 20SS: WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? DG: My hobbies have always consisted of art, visual art, photography, reading, writing and performing. 20SS: WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL ACCOMPLISHMENT SO FAR? DG: The Great Canadian Song Writers Competition in Toronto. I didn’t win but I made top 10 in the greater Toronto Area because of the wonderful fan support. A fresh face to Toronto, not knowing many people in the city and so much love and support, I was so grateful, It helped me feel so inspired during a difficult time.

Davy J Gibson

Musician

20SS: DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING EVENTS/GIGS/CD RELEASE? DG: After three years in Toronto, it took some time and immense amount of hard work to get the ball rolling. I took some time off to study at the Toronto Film School for Theatre, Television and Film and hosted several tech shows with CiB24 Toronto. I’ll be working with a great Producer/ Recording Engineer in early 2015 to get some more music out! 20SS: WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO OPEN FOR? DG: I would love to open for Dave Barnes, he’s an incredible soulful singer and amazing song writer, I have always been a huge fan of his work. 20SS: WHAT GENRE OR MUSIC DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF? DG: My genre of music ranges so wide from rock to acoustic folk, but lately I find myself writing more folky/country with elements of rock. Toronto has added lot of different influences to my writing, I appreciate so many styles of music, it’s hard sometimes for me to narrow down my influences and sound.

20SS: WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE NEW YEAR? DG: The New Year is going to bring many new endeavours; being a part of so many new projects from an Artist Development Team, projects in Film, television and theatre I’m continuously moving forward trying new things and expanding my network. Though I’m continuously moving, and in another city, Sudbury will always be my home! FACEBOOK.COM/DAVY J GIBSON TWITTER.COM/DAVY_J_GIBSON

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

20SS: WHAT GOT YOU INTO BASKETBALL, HOW DID YOU CHOOSE THIS SPORT? NS: My dad put a basketball in my hands when I was four. He taught me how to dribble and ever since, I’ve had a love for the game. 20SS: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF BASKETBALL? NS: The hardest part for me was taking two years off during my degree and then coming back. I missed the game and it was hard to watch my teammates play without me. 20SS: HOW DO YOU STAY FOCUSED AND MOTIVATED? NS: I look at basketball as my time for myself. I use it to get away from the stress of school. So in that way it’s really easy to stay motivated and focused – because I’m doing what I love. 20SS: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM BASKETBALL?

Nick Simon, 22 sport: basketball

NS: Basketball has taught me the importance of perseverance. I’ve learned the value of working hard to complete a goal and the sense of achievement that comes when you’ve done it. I’ve also learned that it’s never too late to do what you really love doing. 20SS: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING TO GET STARTED IN BASKETBALL? NS: Learn the fundamentals and never give up. Watch Hoop Dreams, it will show you what it means to have heart for the game. 20SS: WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? NS: I plan on pursuing a master’s degree in experimental psychology once I have completed my undergrad. After that, I’m not too sure yet. 20SS: HOW DID YOU END UP IN SUDBURY? NS: Well, I’m originally from Montreal and I’ve lived in a big city all my life so I really wanted to experience the Northern life and all that Sudbury has to offer.
