Presentazione

TASK 4

NEXT GENERATION LEADER

Read the text about a next generation leader. Are the sentences (1-5) true, false or not given? Put a cross ( X ) in the correct box. The first one (0) is an example.

Supermarkets throw away a lot of food daily. Often, this food is still good to eat but it ends up in landfills. They also discard fruits and vegetables that look unusual, even if they are fresh and perfectly edible.

This happens in Nigeria too, where 14 million people do not have enough food to survive and suffer from hunger. At the age of thirty, Oscar Ekponimo, a Nigerian computer engineer, developed an app to connect supermarkets with charity organizations and food banks.

Thanks to the app, volunteers can always know when supermarkets are giving away food for free and where to collect it. Oscar Ekponimo is named in Time Magazine’s list of 10 Next Generation Leaders.

Your family can also save water in the kitchen. When you wash dishes for six people in the sink, you use 50 litres of water. When a dishwasher is full, it only needs 15 litres of water to wash all the plates. Many people don’t know that a lot of water is used to make clothes. To produce just one pair of jeans, factories need 10,000 litres of water. That’s about the same amount of water that fifteen people drink in one year.
