Medicaid me ha Salvado la Vida

Mi nombre es Olga y soy madre y siempre he tratado de que mi hijo tenga su seguro médico vigente ya que es muy importante por sus visitas regulares con el doctor, vacunas, exámenes de la vista, y sus visitas al dentista. Nunca me imaginé que también yo iba a necesitar de la cobertura de Medicaid, hasta que llegó el momento. Por motivo de la pandemia perdí mi seguro médico y mi estado de salud era crítico. Platicando con un Navegador de Salud sobre todo lo que me estaba pasando y me preguntó si yo quería aplicar para Medicaid, como tenía un menor de edad a mi cargo y mi ingreso no era muy alto. Aplicamos y luego Medicaid pidió más información acerca de cuándo perdí mi empleo y una carta de mi supervisor. En El Centro le dieron seguimiento a mi caso y se mandó todo lo que Medicaid estaba pidiendo, ¡y gracias a Dios me aprobaron!

Llegó en el tiempo preciso, ya que mi salud iba decayendo más y más. Pasó lo que ha pasado en muchos hogares, mi familia se contagió de COVID-19 y yo también salí positiva. Estuve hospitalizada 21 días en cuidados intensivos, entubada a un respirador, inducida a coma para mantenerme con vida ya que mi estado médico era muy delicado. Mis doctores, enfermeras y todos los que estuvieron involucrados en mi cuidado lucharon junto conmigo para que yo pudiera volver a ver a mi hijo y a mi madre que estaba de visita, a mi hija y a mi nieto. Medicaid me ha dado los mejores médicos y especialistas. Sin la cobertura médica yo no hubiera podido tener el acceso a mis quimioterapias, fisioterapias y a las cirugías que me he tenido que someter para poder seguir viva durante esta pandemia.

Medicaid Saved my Life

My name is Olga and I am a mother and always have tried to make sure my son has active health insurance as it is very important for his regular visits with the doctor, vaccines, vision exams and his dentist visits. I never imaged that I would also need coverage from Medicaid, until the moment I did. Due to the pandemic, I lost my job and health insurance and my state of health became critical. Talking with a Health Navigator about everything that was happening with me he asked me if I wanted to apply for Medicaid, since I took care of a minor and my income was very low. We applied and later Medicaid asked for more information about when I lost my employment, and they needed a letter from my supervisor. El Centro was able to provide all the follow-up for my case and sent in everything that Medicaid was asking for, and thank God I was approved!

It arrived at just the right moment, as my health was weakening more and more and what had happened in many homes happened to ours, my family got COVID-19 and I tested positive as well. I was hospitalized for 21 days in intensive care, connected to a respirator, and was put in an induced coma to keep me alive as my health was very delicate. My doctors, the nurses, and everyone involved in my care fought with me so that I could see my son again and my mother who was visiting, my daughter and grandson. Medicaid has given me access to the best doctors and specialists. Without this health insurance I wouldn’t have been able to access my chemotherapy, physical therapy, and the surgeries that I have needed, including the medical care I needed to live during the pandemic.
