Hola, soy Ivonne y vivo en Shawnee, Kansas en el condado de Johnson. Soy un Especialista de Inscripciones para el programa de Navegación de Salud en El Centro ubicado en Olathe. Ayudo a nuestros clientes a inscribirse en los diferentes programas a los cuales pueden tener acceso como Medicaid, SNAP, LIEAP, y dar seguimiento a sus casos si es que requieren más información después de procesar la aplicación. Me gusta poder ayudar a nuestra comunidad y más en estos tiempos de pandemia, ya que han sido los más vulnerables y necesitan más que nunca que alguien los escuche y poder ayudar en lo que está a nuestro alcance como organización.

Principalmente Medicaid les ayuda en su cuidado médico y evitar tener algún gasto médico. Especialmente cuando, desafortunadamente, presentan un cuadro critico de salud y necesitar tener acceso a un especialista de cualquier índole o algún tipo de apoyo. Como por ejemplo, la salud mental es algo súper importante y a veces en nuestra cultura es un poco difícil de hablar, pero si un profesional se los explica, ellos pueden ver la importancia de que pedir ayuda. No tiene nada de malo.

He visto el impacto y muy de cerca, con un miembro de mi familia. Era algo que mortificaba a mi hermana, en tan solo pensar como ella iba a poder juntar el dinero para poder ayudar a su hija. Mi hermana recibió la llamada que tanto esperaba de que había sido aprobada para la cirugía y todo fue tan rápido. Si no hubiese contado con su cobertura médica no hubiese podido tener acceso a este tipo de cirugía. Es muy importante que su familia cuente con un cuidado médico. Puede ser que alguien en el hogar está enfermo o uno mismo se crea un caos en los hogares de la desesperación de que no es tan fácil tener acceso a un especialista si no hay aseguranza médica o el dinero para págalo.

Hello, I’m Ivonne and I live in Shawnee, Kansas in Johnson County. I am an Enrollment Specialist for the Health Navigation Program at El Centro located in Olathe. I help our clients get enrolled into the different programs that they have access to like Medicaid, SNAP, LIEAP, and I provide follow-up on their cases if they’re required to provide more information after processing their application. I like to be able to help our community and more during these times of the pandemic, being that they have been the most vulnerable and need someone to listen to them now more than ever and help with what we can as an organization.

Medicaid primarily helps them with their health care and to avoid paying medical expenses. Especially when, unfortunately, they present with a critical health case and need to have access to a specialist for any condition or some type of support. For example, mental health is super important but in our culture it is a little hard to talk about, but if a professional explains it them, they are able to see the importance of asking for help. It’s not a bad thing.

I have seen the impact very close, with a family member. It was something that mortified my sister, in just thinking about how she was going to be able to come up with the money to be able to help her daughter. My sister received the call she had long been waiting for that she had been approved for the surgery and everything happened so fast. If it weren’t for having her health coverage she wouldn’t have had access to that type of surgery. It is very important that your family has health insurance. It might be that someone at home is sick or you find yourself in despair that it is not so easy to access a specialist if you don’t have health insurance or the money to pay for it.
