ALTERATIONS OF THE PREMOLARS AND MOLARS AND THEIR TREATMENT
entro de los premolares de los équidos hay uno que tiene características muy diferentes al resto por ser braquiodonto y vestigial, el primer premolar (Triadan 5), también llamado “diente de lobo”. Los otros tres premolares (Triadan 6 a 8) y los tres molares (Triadan 9 a 11) son hypsodontos, tienen forma y anatomía similar, actuando como una unidad cuya función es la de masticar la comida. Podremos encontrar gran variedad de alteraciones en los premolares y molares, por lo cual será muy importante su adecuado diagnóstico, ya que serán de vital importancia para la alimentación del caballo y para su máximo rendimiento deportivo. Para poder realizar un correcto diagnóstico es imprescindible un buen conocimiento de la anatomía de los dientes, el periodonto y toda la boca; teniendo siempre presente que los dientes y el periodonto sufren continuos cambios a lo largo de la vida del animal.

ithin the premolars of equids there is one that has very different characteristics to the rest because it is brachydont and vestigial, the first premolar (Triadan 5), also called “wolf tooth”. The other three premolars (Triadan 6 to 8) and the three molars (Triadan 9 to 11) are hypsodonts, they have similar shape and anatomy, acting as a unit whose function is to chew food. We will be able to find a wide variety of alterations in the premolars and molars, so it will be very important its proper diagnosis, since they will be of vital importance for the feeding of the horse and for its proper sports performance. In order to make an adequate diagnosis, a good knowledge of the anatomy of the teeth, periodontium and the whole mouth is essential, always keeping in mind that teeth and periodontium undergo continuous changes throughout the life of the animal.
