Legislature accepts grant funding for School Resource Officers in districts throughout Erie County

The Erie County Legislature recently approved accepting grant funding for school resource officers in the Alden, Holland, North Collins, and Springville school districts.

Legislator Lorigo said, “School resource officers help provide a sense of security while fostering a positive relationship between law enforcement and students. I am encouraged by the SRO program’s success in schools throughout my legislative district and proud to support funding to help it continue.”

Legislator Mills said, “Not only do school resource officers make our schools a safer place, they serve as positive role models for our students as well. These officers have been a valuable asset to districts throughout Erie County and this grant will help schools fit the positions into their budgets. It is a win-win for everyone involved. “ The agreement will reimburse the county $27,500.

Legislator Mills announces free rabies vaccination clinic in Orchard Park

Next month, the Erie County Department of Health will be hosting a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats, and ferrets.

The clinic will take place Wednesday, September 11 from 4-7pm at ECC South Campus Building #7, 4041 Southwestern Blvd, Orchard Park.

Those attending must do the following: Bring pets on a leash or in a carrier, Avoid using retractable, extended dog leashes, Bring pet’s vaccination record, if possible.

Legislator Mills said, “Rabies vaccinations play a vital role in the safety of our pets. Thanks to a collaborative effort between Erie County and local organizations like the SPCA, these clinics are free and open to everyone. I look forward to seeing another great turnout in September!”

Legislator Mills presents proclamation to Town of Collins Fire Company and Fire District

Erie County Legislator John Mills recently attended a dedication ceremony for the Town of Collins Fire Company and Fire District’s new truck and building addition. During the event, Legislator Mills presented volunteers with a proclamation congratulating them on the expansion.

The new fire truck was designed by members of the Town of Collins Fire Company and has a 1000-gallon water tank and 1500-gallon per minute pumper. Both purchases were made possible by fundraising efforts and a donation from former member of 45 years, Don Tarbox and his wife, former auxiliary member of 55 years, Dorothy Tarbox.

Legislator Mills said, “It was my pleasure to be part of the official unveiling for these new resources that will help the Town of Collins Fire Company and Fire District and its service to our community. The Town of Collins and surrounding neighborhoods are fortunate to have the fire company and fire district along with the men and women who volunteer their time to keep us safe. Thank you to all who made this expansion possible!”

Eden Community Foundation to Celebrate Twenty Years of Giving by Focusing on Grants to Enhance Hamlet Vitality

The Eden Community Foundation was established to strengthen and improve the quality of life in the Town of Eden. It fulfills this mission by encouraging private giving for the public good. In the twenty year history of the foundation it has funded a broad range of over 80 different grants ranging from $210 to $10,000 and totaling over $200,000 . After careful consideration by the Foundation board, listening to input from Eden residents, schools, government, and other town organizations the foundation will be taking a new approach by focusing funding in a proactive way on more specific goals, all of which still support the mission of improving the quality of life in Eden. We call this new approach “Grant Focus”. The key initiatives to this new approach will focus on: • Improving the hamlet of Eden Center (the area generally on or near Main St., Church St., Green St. and Depot St.). This includes for example improving visual appearance; adding services for residents and visitors; revitalizing properties; and preserving historic sites.

• Developing or improving indoor or outdoor, existing, new, or repurposed, spaces for community activities such as clubs, civic, and other gatherings.

• Offering new programs or activities that enrich the lives of Eden residents.

When: Friday, September 6, 2019, Noon until 8:00pm Polling Location: Eden Town Hall, 2795 East Church St., Eden The proposition on the ballot will read:

Shall the assets of the Town of Eden Consolidated Water District No. 2, except for the Wepax Road Service Area, be transferred to the Erie County Water Authority under a Direct Service Agreement?

What am I voting on: In order to move ahead with the transfer, property owners within the Eden Water District must approve the transfer of assets from the Town of Eden to the Erie County Water Authority.

Who is Eligible to Vote: -

Persons who own property in the Town of Eden Water District.

Only those persons listed on the property deed can vote.

Owners of multiple properties can only vote once.

If a property is in Life Estate, only the person (s) with LE after their name(s) can vote.

Corporations are entitled to one vote by a person designated by the corporation’s board of directors. Need a letter or board meeting minutes showing that they are authorized to vote.

LLC are entitled to one vote by a person who is a member of the LLC. Need to present a certificate showing they are a member of the LLC. The Executor of an Estate may vote. Need proof of executorship.
