Stephen C. Ebling Memorial Bridge Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) is proud to announce the passage of Assembly Bill A.6969B, which designates the bridge over the New York State Thruway along Eden-Evans Center Road in the Town of Evans as the “Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C. Ebling Memorial Bridge.” This DiPietro-sponsored bill honors New York State Thruway Authority Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C. Ebling, who tragically lost his life while working in the Silver Creek Section of the Buffalo Maintenance Division in November. “Stephen Ebling was a selfless public servant,” said DiPietro. “Naming this bridge in his honor ensures his legacy of service will be remembered. My thoughts remain with his family, friends and colleagues.” Stephen C. Ebling was known for his dedication to public safety and his role as a supervisor for the Thruway Authority. This memorial designation serves as a lasting tribute to his contributions to the Town of Eden and Erie County.

The Farnham Ladies Drum Corp existed during the years 19381955. The Corp began because of Helen Watt who was a local music teacher as well as an organist at Farnham’s Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Helen had the idea that Farnham should form a Corps and gathered together all interested women of the community. Most of the members over the years were friends or relatives from Farnham, Brant and the Seneca Nation. They learned to march, carry a drum, bells or a bugle, flag or banner. The girls practiced all year and marched in parades and competitions all summer. At one time the Corps played during half time at a Buffalo Bills football game at the Buffalo, N.Y. War Memorial Stadium!

The Borngraber sisters Jean, Verna and Joyce along with their mom Alice were members this talented and multi-award winning group. They lived in Brant, N.Y. on the Brant-Farnham Road. According to our notes, Jean and Verna played the snare drum and Joyce and mom Alice played the bugle.

Beverly Wasmund, long time Drum Major of the Corps wrote the following for our Farnham 125th Anniversary book, published in 2017: “The Farnham Fire Department paid for everything - the uniforms, instruments and instructors. The first uniforms were white dresses with a navy bottom, next satin blouses made by the women and blue skirts, the last was a navy wool jacket and skirt, with white shirt and tie and always stockings and white shoes. The navy jacket, shirts and hats were purchased from Brownies Uniforms in Buffalo as were the drum major and twirlers uniforms.” This photo of the Borngraber sisters gives us a glimpse of the Farnham Ladies Drum Corps’ uniform of 1947.

Submitted by the Brant-Farnham Historical Society

The piano students of Stacey Callinan had another successful recital on May 18th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Eden. Kudos to their hard work all year. They all made beautiful music!

Eden Family Dental has invested in two new pieces of equipment that we are excited to utilize for our patients.

Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. is is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. is makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions.

ese scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. is allows our patients to be tted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

Eden Family Dental is continuously looking for ways to improve the dental experience for our patients and to accommodate everyone's busy schedule.

We are currently accepting new patients, so please call 992-9511 to get scheduled for your comprehensive exam and cleaning!

2025 Erie County Fair Best in Show Cider Winner Announced

HAMBURG, NY: Following the judging of the entries submitted for the 2025 Erie County Fair Home Brew and Cider competitions, the Best of Show winners have been selected and will be professionally reproduced and distributed by TryIt Distributing to select retail locations and the Erie County Fair this summer. Chuck Privitera of Eden, NY has been named the 2025 Erie County Fair Best in Show Cider winner for Carnival Drizzle—a modern semi-sweet cider inspired by the nostalgic flavor of a caramel apple. Crisp, apple-forward, and finished with smooth caramel notes, it perfectly captures the spirit of the Fair. Chuck derived the caramel recipe from his grandmother’s old cookbook. Chuck is a longtime cider maker and member of the Stumblin' Falls Homebrew Club. He also earned the Fair’s 2023 Best in Show Cider title, making this his second time earning top honors. The Best in Show cider will be professionally reproduced by Blackbird Cider Works, and will be available on tap at the 2025 Erie County Fair and sold in retail stores.

A THOUGHT TO REMEMBER…

“...be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself.” Bruce Lee

This is good advice for our newly graduated highschool students as they start the next chapter of their lives. Actually, it is good advice for each of us no matter where we are on our life’s road.

Don’t try to be someone you’re not. It will only get you into trouble at some point. Learn to express your thoughts clearly and logically, and don’t let someone else put words in your mouth. Speaking up for yourself and being truthful is crucial in any career path you take.

But having faith in yourself might be the most important part of this saying. Believing that you can accomplish a goal, achieve a dream, and have the life you have imagined is critical. If you don’t believe in yourself and your abilities, others will probably not either. Go forth with confidence and pride in what you have accomplished. The world is full of wonderful
