You’re Invited! Community Meeting - Affordable Workforce Housing Coming to North Collins

Exciting things are happening in North Collins! The ROC Affordable Housing Corporation (ROC AHC), a nonprofit subsidiary of The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), will be attending the Village Board Meeting on Monday, August 18th at 6:30 PM at Village Hall (10543 Main Street) to present plans for a new 8-unit affordable workforce housing development (10483 Main Street) next to The Well. The ROC AHC is committed to supporting rural communities by creating high-quality, energy-efficient, and sustainable housing options that help working families live affordably and with dignity. Backed by The Rural Outreach Center’s mission of assisting, empowering, and elevating individuals and families in need, this project is about more than just housing — it’s about building stronger, healthier communities. Come hear our plans, ask questions, and share your thoughts — we’d love your support as we work together for the future of North Collins.

Southtowns Catholic School Junior Honor Society

This year, Southtowns Catholic School students from 6th to 8th grade were welcomed into the National Junior Honor Society. During the ceremony, we lit five candles, each symbolizing one of the NJHS pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. Following the brief ceremony, inductees, along with their families, middle school students, and the 5th graders, celebrated with cake and punch.

In 1876, Mr. George Lehley managed a wagon and carriage industry in the town of Brant. His shop was located on the current site of the Memorial Park at the Brant four corners. According to historical records, Mr. Lehley hired ten or fifteen men who worked steady building buggies, surreys, cutters, wagons and parts. However, when the automobile was introduced as a new method of transportation and manufactured carriages and wagons were no longer needed, Mr. Lehley and his son Frank operated a hardware store on the same lot. Our historical society has an original advertisement from the Geo. Lehley & Son Hardware Store, circa 1915 that we found (bonus!) between the pages of a handwritten early 1900 Town of Brant Assessment book. The Brant Post Office was also located in this building for many years with Grace Lehley listed as postmaster. Our record books also show that: George Lehley was the Brant Town Clerk in 1880 and then again from 1884 through 1890. He was then elected as the town of Brant Supervisor for eight consecutive years, from 1890 - 1897. His son Frank was an elected official as well, holding the office of Brant Town Clerk from 1934 - 1947. It is possible that George and Frank are both standing in front of the building in this photo, but this is not confirmed. (If you look closely, there is also a gentleman seated on the porch.)

This 1900something photo of Lehley’s Hardware Store was loaned to the Brant-Farnham Historical Society by Chuck Joy of Brant, N.Y. so that we could scan and share with you today. Chuck’s dad, Joseph Joy, had purchased the hardware store from Mr. Lehley. Our 1964 history book reads as such: “In the 1940’s Joseph Joy operated the hardware store, followed by Abraham’s clothing store and Tripi’s clothing store. The inside of the building was gutted by fire in June 1964.” Chuck had told us that the store on the right is the old Red & White Grocery Store, which today (2025) houses the Brant Post Office. Joseph Joy also owned this building from which he managed a farm chemical business by the name of Niagara Chemical. After selling the two store buildings, Joseph Joy operated the chemical business from the building next door to his personal residence on BrantReservation Road.

From the Old Photo Album

It was only a little over 80 years ago when people from our community relied on horsepower to help farm their land. In 1942, Cosmo Maley took a break from farming with his horse, to pose with his daughters Rose and Carolyn for a photograph. Cosmo’s father Charles Maley along with Pasquale Lomanto had purchased the farm land on Church Street and Mud Road in Farnham, N.Y. on September 30, 1919. (Mud Road today is known as Commercial Street and Brant-Farnham Road.) The Erie County property deed recorded the previous owners as Pietro and Congetta Villa. Cosmo’s son Charles still resides in the family homestead. Charles’ daughter Sandy Meli submitted this photo of her grandfather and aunts when we were gathering information for Farnham’s 125th Anniversary book in 2017.

Eden Family Dental has invested in two new pieces of equipment that we are excited to utilize for our patients.

Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. is is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. is makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions.

ese scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. is allows our patients to be tted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

Eden Family Dental is continuously looking for ways to improve the dental experience for our patients and to accommodate everyone's busy schedule.

We are currently accepting new patients, so please call 992-9511 to get scheduled for your comprehensive exam and cleaning!

YEARS OF SERVICE…

“It takes time to live. Like any work of art, life needs to be thought about.” -- Albert Camus

You may not think of yourself as an artist, but our lives are each truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. No one else will waltz through life exactly as you do. No one else will color their days as you do. No one else even sings in the shower exactly as you do!

What joys there are in our days if we just take the time to look for them. When was the last time you spent a few moments examining the life you are creating and made new decisions about its direction?

We are each given the same number of hours in a day, but what people do with those magical minutes is infinitely different. Are you creating a masterpiece that will live long after you are gone or have you smudged the canvas so that the image is a blur? Slow down and take time to think about the wonderful creation that is you.
