Eden & North Collins Libraries Host Fun Events to Encourage Summer Reading The Checkers Show comes to the Eden Library Eden Library hosts children’s entertainer, Checkers, as he presents his Summer Reading Show on Wednesday, June 20th at 3:00 pm. The show aligns with this year’s Library Summer Reading Program theme “Libraries Rock”. Checkers promises to amaze the audience of children while teaching the importance of reading throughout the summer. The performance is a vibrant blend of magic, juggling, comedy, and stunts. It incorporates a unique, themed story line that engages young audiences and generates participation. The performance is free and requires no advanced reservations.

Checkers is a popular children’s entertainer who has performed at The White House Annual Easter Egg Roll three times. He presents his energetic show throughout New York, Southern Ontario and Pennsylvania combining entertainment and lessons for young children, who can also visit his website’s www.checkerstheinventor.com Kids Only section to further their learning. The library invites area residents to enjoy the show and discover all the wonderful resources and services available at their library. The show is about 45 minutes long. North Collins Library Presents a Summer Reading Magic Show North Collins Public Library is hosting a professional summer reading magic show, open to the community, on Wednesday June 20, 2018 at 6:00 PM, at the North Collins Public Library. The show, titled “The Goofy Kooky Magic & Music Show,” is being used as part of the library’s efforts to encourage children to read more during the summer. The magic show, presented by professional magician Cris Johnson, will feature music, age-appropriate humor, fun magic, audience participation, and more. The show is intended for children ages 4-12 and any fun- loving adults.“This particular magic show is something different – it was designed to promote our summer reading program theme of ‘Libraries Rock!’,” Jacob Rachwal explains. “The show will feature magic themed around different aspects of music, a fun FREE magic trick for every child who attends, an amazing Music Race, and more!” Why did magician Cris Johnson go to the trouble of creating an entire show around the 2018 Summer Reading Program theme? “I’ve been creating and presenting themed shows to libraries and schools across North America for nearly 20 years and it’s a passion of mine,” Cris explains. “With budget cuts increasing all the time, we as a community really need to support our local libraries, encourage children to read more, watch less TV, and protect our children’s future.” Cris Johnson’s “The Goofy Kooky Magic & Music Show” will be presented on Wednesday June 20, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the North Collins Public Library, and is intended for children ages 4-12 and any funloving adults. Know God the Father and then introduce Him to your children. Having a spiritual Father to guide them will help them navigate through life’s choices.

Faith Bible Baptist Church Receives Proclamation

The Faith Bible Baptist Church of Eden recently celebrated their 35th Anniversary. As part of their celebration, Assemblyman Dave DiPietro attended their church, and presented Pastor Art Kohl with an official proclamation on behalf of New York State, thanking them for their service to our community.

Raising the roof on the Brant #I School circa 1910: Samuel Butts, one of the earliest settlers of Brant, N.Y., donated the land on Brant-Angola Road for the town of Brant District #1 School. It was a one-room school, heated with a pot-bellied stove. In 1906, the original school building was sold to Mr. John Mirruso and moved to a location on Brant Reservation Road. In 1907, the “new” school was built on the original lot donated by Samuel Butts. This time it was a two room school. Later, in 1910 as the need for more rooms developed, the roof was raised and the school was transformed into a two story, four classroom structure. This structure, easily recognizable, is still standing today and is currently an apartment building owned by the Pero family.

Flag Day Ceremony Held at North Collins Veterans Tribute Site

It was a cool, windy and drizzly day on Sunday, June 10.

But the North Collins Veterans Tribute Committee and those from North Collins who support and respect this country's veterans would not be deterred.

The Annual Flag Day Ceremony was held at the Tribute site at noon. The North Collins American Legion presented the Colors. Paul Lawton said a prayer for our veterans and the safety of our country. James Lint, President, gave an update on the progress at the site.

The beautiful "V" centerpiece has been ordered. The concrete to support this will be poured. The initial order of bricks has been placed and accepted and engraving has begun. Several organizations will be volunteering their time and energies with work on the Tribute. Many elected officials attended the ceremony. Senator Gallivan's office was represented. Assemblyman DiPietro, Legislator Mills, Town Supervisor Tobia and Village Mayor George all spoke and congratulated James and the committee for their continued hard work on this very important project.

We were also honored to have Jason Jaskula from the KIA Memorial March Inc. as our keynote speaker. He spoke of the mission of his organization and the efforts they undertake to assist veterans and their families. It was a wonderful celebration in remembering all that our Flag stands for and how very fortunate we are to live in the United States of America. ________

Gerry was a long time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and Den Mother in Eden Cub Scouts. Her highest priority was caring for her much loved family. Rita married her loving husband Roman J. Vetter who passed away December 30, 1994. Rita worked for many years in the linen department at Buffalo General Hospital.

She loved to laugh, pray the rosary and spend time with her family. Rita also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making homemade pierogies. She was the loving mother of late Joyce Ann Bischof; Grandmother of Olivia Ann (Nathan) Doctor and Ryan John (Megan) Bischof. Great Grandmother of Savannah Joyce Doctor and Rella Ann Doctor.
