Eden Girls Volleyball Team Raises Money for Roswell
The Eden Girls Varsity Volleyball Team raised money for Roswell Park Cancer Center. Donations were made in honor and memory of loved ones affected by cancer. The team raised $825 for Roswell. They hosted a cancer awareness night before their playoff game and honored local cancer survivors. Surviviors were presented with bouquets donated by Shurfine. After the game the Eden team shared dilly bars donated by Dairy Queen with the visiting team. Submitted by C. Musielak

Remember when, as kids, you were chased out of the Clear Creek Reservoir on Genesee Road? It belonged to the NYState Office of Mental Health and provided water for the Gowanda Psychiatric Center. The dam was constructed in the 1920’s and later became the source of water for the Collins Correctional Facility. Wildlife was abundant there, but no one was allowed to hunt, fish, swim or boat there. The Office of Mental Health recently planned to abandon the site, but thanks to the intervention of several local officials, the site is now the Clear Creek Wildlife MANAGEMENT Area under the State Department of Conservation and is open for hunting, fishing. trapping and wildlife viewing. Small boats, kayaks, and canoes are now allowed and an area on Genesee Road allows for access and parking. However, all current conservation laws are still in effect. The photo shows construction of the dam in the 1920’s. Note there are no bulldozers but horses were used in the construction.

Mary Jane White of the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Territory passed into eternity on October 31, 2022, at the age of 79 years. Loving daughter of the late Richard and Leah (Kennedy) White, dear sister of Myrna (Frank) Jasinski of Gaylord, MI, twin sister of the late Margaret Bledsoe, Betty Tripp, Sylvia Nicito, Barbara (Leland) Hemlock, Edmund (Edith) White and Ronald (Carmen) White. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cherished cousin of Gail Kennedy and Godmother of Schrelle Mallory. It was evident that while Mary Jane persevered and endured her challenges, she became more spiritually refined as she passed through sunshine and sorrow. She understood that not even death can take us from the eternal blessings promised by a loving Heavenly Father. Mary Jane faithfully contributed to the Gowanda Food Pantry and the American Kidney Fund. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
