“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” - James 2:10 This verse is very sobering. If one could keep 9 of the 10 commandments all of his or her life but break one of them once, that person is guilty of all. For instance, if we ever told a lie - just once - we are GUILTY. Have you ever broken one? Yet, there are a lot more then just 10 commandments in the Word.

So what is the Law for? Not to justify us, but to condemn us and be our teacher to get us to look for a Saviour.

Romans 3:24 puts it this way, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” Put your faith in Christ as your Saviour for justification, not your efforts to keep the Law you can’t keep. The Hymn writer Augustus Toplady wrote, “Could my tears forever flow, could my zeal

Legislator Mills attends 2019 Erie County Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony

Erie County Legislator John Mills attended the 2019 Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony recognizing volunteer firefighters for their bravery. At the ceremony, Legislator Mills presented a proclamation honoring the late Peter J. Loretto, which was accepted

by Peter’s wife, Sharon.

Peter J. Loretto joined the Langford New -Oregon Fire Department in October 1968 and served many roles including Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, and 2nd Assistant Chief. He also helped establish the Helmuth Fire Control Dispatch Center where he worked as a dispatcher. Legislator Mills said, “This event was an incredible tribute to some of the bravest individuals among our community. We greatly value the selfless service of all who volunteer as first responders, including Mr. Loretto. It was my pleasure to attend an event honoring each of these men and women.” This year’s other inductees are Michelle Bliss of the South Line Volunteer Fire Company, Eugene Beszczynski of the Sloan Active Hose Company, Robert Carncross of the Ellwood Volunteer Fire Company, Arthur Domino of the Depew Fire Department, George J. Karl Jr. of the Main Transit Fire Department, , James Nusall of the Depew Fire Department, and Edward Tokasz of the Doyle Volunteer Hose Company #2.

The Job of Highway Superintendent We in Eden take great pride in our neighborhoods! There is no doubt about that. Our Chamber of Commerce is very active in promoting business in town, as well as the Town itself. After all, do we not look forward every year to the very well-known Eden Corn Festival?

There is one thing that does not promote Eden, at least in a way that we, as citizens, would like: heavy trucks on our residential streets! By this I mean tractor-trailers, or semis. We all have had delivered new fridges or stoves, etc, etc…..but what is not needed nor wanted are the semis rumbling down a small street, like Hemlock, pushing over all those otherwise using the street as they should! Semis using streets as a cut-thru just because their GPS says so …. Is totally WRONG & needs to stop!!

There is not a single sign to deter the wayward travel of these semis. Not anywhere in Town!

As your highway super, I will make sure this matter is taken care of …. Properly!

The Sun Shines on the Evans Senior Center

On Oct 10 the Evans Senior Center had a Solar Presentation put on Bill Henry, Solar Liberty, Councilwoman Jeanne Macko, the Friends and Neighbors Advocating Better Green Living organization and a representative from NYSERDA. Mr. Henry presented his data on his home’s Solar Photo Voltaic system which was installed 12 years ago. His monthly Electric Bill has averaged $18.85 since the Solar system was installed. Also showcased were other Solar PV systems within the Town such as Goya, Cradle Beach, Community Concern, the Stout residence, and the Evans Senior Center in which Councilwoman Macko highlighted the savings to the Town. Solar Liberty and NYSERDA informed the public on the many ways you can add Solar to your home or Business as well as other programs available to low income families. At the end of presentation Solar Liberty & Mr. Henry presented a $250 check to the Senior director Veronica Yeager for a donation for a referral Mr. Henry would have received, but wanted this money to go to the Senior’s instead and Solar Liberty graciously agreed.

Since her election in the fall of 2015, Missy Hartman has dedicated her term to improving the quality of life for all Eden residents and businesses. She has secured funding for our town through active grant writing and participation on key municipal committees. Missy has made the Supervisor’s office more accessible for town residents to express their concerns and vision for Eden. Her first term accomplishments include:

Legislator Mills Presents Donations To Local Libraries Throughout The Community Erie County Legislator John Mills has donated 700 dollar checks to the Orchard Park, Angola, Boston, Town of Collins, North Collins, Eden, and Concord Public Libraries. Legislator Mills also donated 21 pounds of hotdogs to the Town of Collins, North Collins, Eden, Angola and Boston libraries to support their annual fundraisers.

In recent weeks, Legislator Mills has stopped by each library to present individual checks to board members and thank them for their service to the community.

Legislator Mills said, “Our libraries provide invaluable resources to the community and are enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether it’s through encouraging reading, offering educational programs or family-friendly activities, libraries serve us in countless ways. These donations are just one way to express our appreciation for everything they do. News from Baldwin Wallace University BEREA, OH: Bryan Parnitzke of North Collins was among nearly 600 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who claimed $7.8 million in merit scholarships. Parnitzke, a graduate of North Collins Central High School majoring in biology, earned a $15,000 Trustee's Scholarship based on outstanding academic achievements in high school. BW's merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students and are renewable up to four years with good academic and social standing. BW grants a wide range of scholarships to current students each year.

Including merit and need-based scholarships, BW students received over $57 million in financial support from the University for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Elizabeth (Betty) Missert

Atkinson, NH - Elizabeth (Betty) Missert passed away on Sat., Oct. 19, 2019, surrounded by members of her loving family. Betty is together again with her beloved husband Tom who passed in Dec., 2015. Betty was loved dearly by her children Debbie (Mickey) Tomasello, Jim (Mary), Peter (Karen), Tom (Deanna), Paul (Carolyn), Mark (Mary); and was cherished by her 12 grandchildren, of whom she was always very proud. She is survived also by her brother Jim (and wife Millie) Pack. Elizabeth was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Stanley and Florence Pack. She grew up in Buffalo and fondly recalled summers at Pack's Day Camp. Betty was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. While raising her children with Tom in Hamburg, she spent time as a Fabric Sales Representative and Professional Seamstress. Betty had a passion for the Lord and served her church family as Eucharistic minister and was deeply involved with the Sisters of St. Francis in Buffalo, N.Y. Betty also worked as a hostess, pastry chef, and created seasonal decorations at the Water Valley Restaurant in Hamburg, owned by her son Jim and managed by her daughter Debbie.

In 1999, Betty and her husband moved to Atkinson, N.H., to be closer to their grandchildren. She continued to build her seamstress business and served at Saint Anne Parish in Hampstead as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Always active in her community, Betty was especially fond of her time spent with the Atkinson Garden Club and sincerely loved creating floral memories with her friends there. Betty worked a few seasons at Canobie Lake Park alongside her husband and many friends. Even after leaving her work there, she would frequently be found at the park visiting Tom and people there that she cherished.

Family meant everything to Betty. She spent a lifetime creating holiday traditions and memories that her family will always remember. Tom and her children were the center of her world, but she also always made time for friends, both new and old. She loved to bake and always looked forward to giving her homemade Christmas cookies to family and friends around the holidays. Her smiles and affection for those around her will be missed by all.

Memorial service: Saint Anne Parish, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH, on Nov. 1, 2019, at 11 a.m. A second service will be held at St. Peter & Paul's Church in Hamburg, N.Y., at Sat., Nov. 16, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to either The Devon Nicole House Foundation, P.O.
