ATTENTION NORTH COLLINS RESIDENTS

In December, nearly half of the student body of North Collins Jr.-Sr. High School participated in their second annual Lock In for Roswell to raise money for the cancer hospital. This event saw students locked in the building overnight, while they played video, board and card games, participated in basketball and other sports, snacked on food, and watched movies. Some of them even slept! In all, over $3,600 was raised for Roswell Park, thanks to the efforts of this group of caring kids. On Friday, December 16, the top fundraiser, Grace Montaldi, along with Student Government officers Morgan Smith, Henry Jarzynski, Sabrina Wroblewski, Rachel Kehr and Hayley Kehr, presented a check to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for the full amount, which will go a long way to making the lives of pediatric patients in our community brighter.

Typically CIRCADIAN DISRUPTION is driven by the timing and color-proportioning of light that enters the eye. In my upcoming lecture in the North Collins library I will explain what circadian disruption is, and why it is important, and how to avoid it. My Electrical Engineering Master’s thesis involved the construction and testing of a light toxicity chamber (of my own design) which was then used by researchers at the VA Hospital. My light toxicity chamber maximized the circadian disruption in mice by accuracy delivering low intensity lighting BUT with exact color portioning and timing, which would rapidly result in the death of the mice’s retinal cells in less than 24 hours. The purpose in causing such profound retinal disease in these mice is for Researchers to ultimately find cures for human retinal death or disease and blindness.

What should be of interest to you is that my light toxicity chamber’s primarily mechanism is being replicated every day in your household; by virtue of how you use your evening electrical lighting, cell phone, computer and TV. Circadian disruption correlates to increased likelihoods of: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, mania, ADHD, insomnia, breast, colon and prostate cancers and well as joint deterioration.

An early Christmas Present for the Brant-Fire Company December 1st, 1966

The following excerpt is from “Brant Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc,. A look at the past 50 years by Herman J. Ciminesi” as published in our 175 year history book of Brant, N.Y.: “In 1966 we purchased our second new truck, a 750 GPM pumper with a 3000 gallon tank at a cost of $33,000 with the help of a loan from Evans National Bank.” Looking over the new Brant fire truck on December 1st, 1966 are (L-R) First two men are unknown, Chief Pete Pero, Charlie Minor and David Pero Sr. Submitted by the Brant-Farnham Historical Society

June Jones

June Jones (Crouse) Dec 27, 2019 of the Cattaraugus Seneca Territory passed away at the age of 86 at Olean General Hospital in Olean, NY. She was born in Fredonia, NY to Florence Gordon Crouse and John Warner Crouse Sr. She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation and a member of the Hawk Clan. She was a resident at Thomas Indian School for 10 years. After graduation at Thomas Indian School she attended Chilocco Indian School in Chilocco, OK where she graduated high school. She continued to Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS and graduated from their 2 year secretarial program.

She returned to NY and worked as a secretary to the social worker at Thomas Indian School. She was known for her blueberry biscuits, pies, and spaghetti. She was a great cook and great seamstress.

She enjoyed working on quilts, puzzles, playing bingo and watching lacrosse. She was especially known for her great sense of humor. June was the loving mother of Dana (Judy) Jones of Provo, UT, Louis Leroy of Salamanca, NY and the late Daniel Jones. Grandmother of 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Sister of Bette Crouse, Greta M. Kettle, Reginald Crouse and the late Sanford Abrams, John W. Crouse Jr., Emery Crouse, Gordon Crouse and Marilyn Crouse. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Wentland Funeral Home 10634 Main St (Rt 62) N. Collins NY where funeral services also took place.

Mary Kathleen Birchler

Mary Kathleen (Kathie) Birchler née Piller, 72, passed away peacefully in Mesa, Arizona with her family by her side after a long illness. Wife, mom, grammie, sister, and friend, she will be missed dearly by her husband John, her children Juli (Ed), Wendi (Patrice), James (Debora), her grandchildren Kris, Madeleine, Gilbert & Jesse, her sisters Linda & Sandy, the entire Piller and Birchler extended families, her many friends and devoted caregivers. Married for 53 years, Kathie was a stay at home mom until she decided to continue her passion of helping and giving to others through her work at Manpower, Weight Watchers (lifetime member, leader & coach) and the Home Depot.

She loved people, giving back to her community, and promoting inclusion & peace. She was known for her love of crafting, her dinner parties, her generous heart, and her beautiful smile. She “adopted” many and always reminded us that friends are the family that we choose.

Her spirit and gift of giving will live on in all those she touched. She will be laid to rest with her son, Billy, in a private service at the Mount Hope Cemetery in West Valley, New York. The family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to the Mariposa Point of Mesa, the Hospice of the Valley and the Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery.
