Angola Mart Angola Food Food Mart Another highly successful Bluebird Nesting Box Workshop took place last weekend in Eden Town Hall. Some 25+ participants, including, kids, parents and grandparents, plus four helpers from the Eden Conservation Board (sponsoring organization) assembled 36 bird houses without injury or mishap. There was no charge to participants- all they had to do was bring a hammer. Mary Jane Bolo organized the event and Mike Bolo instructed/ demonstrated each step of the process. The group of hosts provided follow up instruction and close at hand coaching. Ken Foltyniak, arranged for the wood and, in advance, precisely cut six pieces each sufficient for 50 birdhouses. WOW! Through financial support of the Eden Community Foundation, participants were given robust steel poles for mounting their nesting boxes which Ken had to retrofit. While there were many compliments and zealous expressions of thanks, here's a written tribute that speaks volumes about the worthwhileness of this event: What a wonderful experience this is! As my nine year old grandson, Richie Ventry, and I were entering the place where we would assemble bluebird houses together, I said to him: "Isn't Eden a great place where we can come to do this together?" He answered me: "When I grow up I want to live here in Eden. I think this should be a family tradition so I can bring my children here to do this too!" Son of Michael & Jeanne Herman, Brother of Sara (Monnat) Herman & Kimberly (Nicosia) Herman. 2003 Graduate of Eden Central High School. Upon graduating, Michael joined the Army and served 3 tours in Iraq. He served from August 2003 until August 2015 when his life entered into rest. He died during active duty and with many honors, including the Gold Star Valor. He was a true hero. Michael died from self inflicted wounds due to PSTD. In 2012 he married the love of his life, Alison (Sutherland) Herman.

While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, some of us went to Dallas on 3 day pass to see the site of the assassination and took many pictures.

Evelyn Ryther Savage

Evelyn Ryther Savage, 100, formerly of Eden, NY died peacefully in her daughter's Illinois home on November 7, 2017. Evelyn was born on September 9, 1917 to Catherine (Coleman) and Warren Ryther. She married W Kenneth Savage of Buffalo in her family home on September 16,1944. A 1935 graduate of Eden High School, Evelyn was a member of the high school band, the girls basketball team of which she often fondly spoke and as well was her Junior class President and Senior class Secretary. As an active volunteer, Evelyn was involved with the Eden Historical Society, the Eden United Methodist Church, Eden AFS, the Eden election board, the town food pantry and with the American Red Cross for over 35 years. Evelyn was an avid gardener and bird enthusiast taking great pleasure in maintaining her Eden property with her husband Ken. Above all else was Evelyn's love for family. She is survived by her daughter Pamela and her husband Marion Roglich, her beloved grandchildren Evan and Madeleine, and her dear nephews and nieces from Belize, Vermont, Illinois, Oregon and New York. She is preceded in death by her brothers David of Eden, NY; Coleman of Canandaigua, NY; Warren of Morris, NY; and her sister Marjorie of Eden, NY. A memorial service will be held at the Eden United Methodist Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Eden United Methodist Church Memorial Fund (2820 E Church St, Eden, NY 14057) and the Eden Historical Society (PO Box 2, Eden, NY 14057). ________

Ronald served in the United States Army from June 1965 - June 1967. He trained as a medical corpsman and served in the Vietnam War from December 1965 December 1966. He treated the wounded in a triage situation after being transported to various battlefields by helicopter. He served proudly and was honorable discharged. He passed away on July 26, 2014.
