A warm welcome to the Coastal Spirit players, management and supporters who have travelled down for this great Quarter-Final battle of the Kate Sheppard Cup. We are regulars at playing each other after many seasons of similar games, so we know each other well. These games are always fast, tough and close - and playing on our new turf in Dunedin is a welcome addition to us local players and spectators. I hope everyone enjoys the conditions.

A big thank you to our local supporters, club members and sponsors who have helped this team and the club over the season so far. There is some great football being played - and we look forward to it continuing until the end of the season.

A very warm Southern welcome to Juan and his Coastal Team, and also their band of Supporters. We have learnt very quickly that Saturday night Knock Out Cup games on the turf are indeed very special, allowing for a high standard of football to be played.

Last year we had the honour of lifting the Kate Sheppard trophy for the very first time in our Clubs history.

The lift that piece of silverware has done for our Club and Womens football in the South as a whole cannot be mentioned in words.

It was hard enough winning it, let alone defending it, and clearly that’s been our aim this year. Our season so far has been a bit disjointed with several deferred games for various reasons. We remain unbeaten this season, and I believe we are yet to hit anywhere near our peak, hoping we may get a bit closer to that in this game.

A special thanks to the people who have made the trip from out of town, and I know there are many.

The girls really appreciate the support they have received from the Dunedin Technical Club and the whole of the Southern Football Community family.

Please be loud in your support for girls……………………”For it’s a grand old team”……………

ISSUE 1

Dunedin Technical made history when they won the inaugural NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup for the first time.

The Graeme Smaill coached team, who were the first team from Football South to make the final of New Zealand’s premier women’s knockout competition, dominated the match from the outset and won the final on the back of a commanding first half performance.

Tech scored four goals – from Mikaela Hunt (2), Lara Wall and Emily Morison – in an impressive first half showing to take a 4-1 lead into the break. It proved to be the defining period of the match.

Forrest Hill Milford United, the favourites to lift the trophy for a second time, fought hard to get back into the game with a couple of fine goals from former Football Ferns striker Jane Barnett, but Dunedin Technical were good enough to hold on for a memorable win in the fine and cold conditions at QBE Stadium in Auckland.

There are plenty of laughs spread around and it’s not hard to find a smiling face.

Players are committed to each other where amazing friendships are formed. Dunedin Tech is like a second family where we have truly bonded over the years.

Best D Tech experience: Cheering on and watching the women’s team win the Kate Sheppard Cup from the other side of the world.

Worst D Tech experience: Not being able to celebrate with the girls after that big win!

Favourite player: Alex Morgan. She played in her first World Cup at age 22 and continues to play amazing footy.
