After two decades and two years, DPWH Cebu 5th DEO held its first celebration to commemorate the operationalization of DPWH Cebu 6th DEO which divided Cebu 5th from 6th into one DEO by virtue of Department Order No. 52 Series of 2010. Employees were happily united as they embarked on a new milestone with warmth, fun and laughter during the day Maintenance Section’s Roadside Workers took their part by putting up a little village made of bahay kubos for every section to decorate and display food offerings – ice cream, chicharon and buko juice from the Office of the District Engineer; biko from the Finance Section; puto and masi from the Construction Section; scallops from the Planning and Design Section; saging and camote from the Quality Assurance Section; street foods from the Maintenance Section; and cotton candy and popcorn from the Administrative Section, all good for everyone! Colorful banderitas were also put up all over the office premises to complete the creation of a perfect Pinoy Fiesta ensemble and to top off the festive celebration
The celebration would not be possible without the guidance and leadership of District Engineer Ma Jannet B Nero, OICAssistant District Engineer Roy L dela Cruz, Section Chiefs and the creativity and overall cooperation of the whole DPWH Cebu 5th DEO family October to December
The event started off early with a Zumba dance workout to prepare for the 5K fun run and followed by ball games – basketball for boys and volleyball for girls. To give thanks to a historic celebration, a holy mass was then offered before lunch time In the afternoon, TikTok performances were presented by each section and the winners of the fun run, volleyball and basketball, and presentations were awarded While dinner was served, everyone sang and danced the evening away to the live band performance. It was indeed a memorable day for DPWH Cebu 5th DEO.
On December 12, 2023, along Luyang shoreline in Carmen, Cebu, the DPWH - Cebu 5th District Engineering Office went out to support the International Coastal Cleanup Drive in collaboration with the Local Government of the Municipality of Carmen The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) was institutionalized in the Philippines by Proclamation No 470 of 2003, issued by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
This year’s ICC was participated by District Engineer Ma Jannet B Nero, OIC - Assistant District Engineer Roy L. dela Cruz, roadside workers from the Maintenance Section and volunteers from all the sections. During the activity, local government volunteers were also present and expressed their gratitude for choosing Luyang shoreline as the site of the coastal cleanup The volunteers collected approximately one truckload of trash including plastic bags, bottles, cups, food wrappers and woods
Ocean trash is a significant source of pollution that has impacted local economies, marine life, and public health By participating in the cleanup of the trash that tourists leave behind on the shore, the district hopes it can help the municipalities along the coast in limiting this kind of issue.

It has always been a part of our Filipino culture that no matter where we are, we always find ways to travel during crowd-gathering occasions such as Holy Week, All Souls’ Day, All Saints’ Day, and the Holiday Seasons during Christmas and New Year. In order to extend the Department’s mandate to provide a safe and smooth travelling experience to the motoring public during these events, the department has been conducting the “Lakbay Alalay Motorist Assistance Program”.
The DPWH Cebu 5th DEO – Maintenance Section, headed by the Section Chief, Engr. Baltazar B. Asensi, Jr., has preidentified strategic locations in the Municipality of Liloan, Danao City and the Municipality of Sogod, Cebu where the crowd will likely converge, thus, setting-up stations for easy access.
The program aims to assist the public to somehow ease their travelling burden as they traverse along the national roads and bridges within the jurisdiction of Cebu 5th District Engineering Office.
