of Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has implemented road rehabilitation and improvement projects that now facilitate smoother and safer driving experience in the fifth district towns of Cebu Province.
Citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 7 Director Ernesto S. Gregorio Jr., DPWH Secretary Manuel M Bonoan said that one (1) of the completed projects is the P48 95 million rehabilitation along three (3) sections of Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road in Barangay Damolog in the municipality of Sogod, and Barangays Lugo and Clavera in Borbon.
The project, which involves the repair of damaged sections, asphalt overlay, installation of solar studs and solar street lights, and application of reflectorized pavement markings, now provides a more stable road surface and improved visibility and road safety at night.
The DPWH also recently implemented two (2) road slope protection projects along landslide-prone sections of Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road in Sogod town, specifically in Barangays Lubo and Mohon and another along Sogod-Tabuelan Road, with each project receiving an allocation of P50 million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
To prevent debris from falling off the road sections, rock netting protection composed of high-tensile wire mesh, soil of rock nails, steel plates, and steel and rope anchors, were installed that now prevent debris from falling off the road section
The projects along Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road and Sogod-Tabuelan Road were completed by the DPWH Cebu 5th District Engineering Office (DEO) under the leadership of District Engineer Ma. Jannet B. Nero.
“Thousands of daily motorists benefit from the improvement works along these mountainside roads. We will continue implement similar projects in the future, especially in areas that are susceptible to road closures and accidents,” said District Engineer Nero

Under the Lakbay Alalay program, Cebu 5th DEO assigned Motorist Assistance Teams on national roads from March 28-31, 2024. Travelers who have concerns or of need help and assistance can approach the said teams made up of DPWH uniformed field and crew personnel.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan has instructed all Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide to conduct routine maintenance activities to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on major roads, especially on the holidays, as the influx of motorists is expected. With this, it is also ensured that warnings, directional, and information signages on the roads are in order.
DPWH Cebu 5th District Engineering Office is one with the country in celebrating the International Women’s Month2024.

On March 7, 2024, the spirit of empowerment filled the air as DPWH Cebu 5th DEO celebrated the International Women’s Day (IWD) a day early to uplift the Juanas of Cebu5thandhonortheircontributionstotheofficeand the society. The day started with a Zumba dance workout,followedbyaboodlefeastforlunchwhichwas prepared and participated by every section. Among the activitieslinedupforthedayincludeafriendlyvolleyball game and free pampering services – manicure & pedicure, hair services, foot spa, foot reflexology and massage.

Also, the compliance to PGS Measure L21 or the Rating in the annual Quality Assurance Audit The upgraded rating of our district laboratory will greatly help in the improvement of the Quality Assurance of our project implementation
On February 16, 2024, DPWH Cebu 5th DEO’s management committee held their first planning session of the year at the Kandaya Resort in Daanbantayan, Cebu. The said activity was initiated by DE Ma. Jannet B. Nero which aims to review last year’s performance, as well as specific goals and targets for the year 2024. Each section chief laid out their plans on how to improve the performance and accomplishments of their respective sections.
