Message from

the President

D

ear Sisters, I’ve always loved Delta Phi Epsilon’s motto: Esse Quam Videri – To Be Rather Than Seem To Be.

And I’m not alone. Surveys of new members reveal that many point to our motto when they are asked what resonates with them most deeply. I’ve also seen quite a few “Esse Quam Videri” tattoos on DPhiE group social posts – talk about a lifetime commitment! “Esse Quam Videri” is an especially important mantra for me today. The concepts of authenticity and truth are at the heart of everything I hope to do in helping lead DPhiE into a new era of inclusion, diversity and equity, and achieve our goal of fostering a sense of belonging for all our members. You’ll read a lot about our inclusion efforts in this issue of the TRIAD – about the expansion of our DEI committee (including collegiate members!) and recent progress made on numerous efforts. We recognize this work as “evergreen,” always growing and sprouting new shoots, requiring care and attention at all times over generations. You’ll also read about DPhiE’s campaign to expand inclusion throughout the entire sorority community by supporting legislation to allow all sovereign member groups of the National Panhellenic Conference to define who is eligible to participate in recruitment at campuses across North America. I am grateful to the DPhiE members who lent their voices, names and stories to the endeavor, illustrating the impact of inclusion. This legislation would have affirmed DPhiE’s existing Trans and NonBinary Membership Eligibility Policy and allowed other sororities to join us in welcoming nonbinary members into their membership. In a heartbreaking last minute withdrawal, that legislation was not adopted. I have always felt that DPhiE is different. Our acceptance of others for their true and authentic selves has set us apart. Inviting those who have different views into conversation and debate to broaden our perspective has been a hallmark of our sisterhood since 1917. I believe that now more than ever. It comes back to our motto. DPhiE is living its true self – embodying the values of justice, sisterhood and love, reflecting our founders’ shared vision while evolving to encompass the real world in which our members reside. Our motto is not just about living in our own personal reality and space, it is about seeing, respecting and welcoming other people’s truth. I have never been prouder to be a member of this sisterhood than I am today, taking part in our active campaign for greater inclusion, setting a new standard for sorority and using our stories and our voice to shine a spotlight on what is right. I hope you join me in that pride. Esse Quam Videri!

Yours In True Delta Phi Epsilon Sisterhood,

Roxanne

DPhiE Leads In Inclusion D

PhiE’s enduring commitment to antidiscrimination practices, inclusion, equity, justice, and sisterhood, was highlighted at the national level this spring as the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) brought forth -- well almost -- a policy amendment that if passed, would have allowed its 26 member sororities to define “woman” as they see fit. Such a critical step would have opened up the possibility for non-binary individuals on college campuses across the country to become part of the fraternal community.

ADVOCATING FOR INCLUSION

The NPC’s move toward such a recruitment policy amendment was guided by years of leadership on trans women and non-binary inclusion started and continuously led by DPhiE. In 2017, Delta Phi Epsilon’s leadership adopted a forwardthinking, inclusive policy that opened our membership to trans women and non-binary individuals. It was a bold statement and an exhaustively researched decision. Over the years since we implemented this policy, as an international organization, we have been educating on, explaining -- and defending -- our position on campuses across North America and in conversations with NPC leadership. Last year, the NPC voted to adopt a recruitment eligibility policy amendment that set the definition of “woman” for the purposes of panhellenic recruitment as “an individual who consistently lives and self-identifies as a woman.” But, this change only accomplished part of what DPhiE has been fighting for, as it still left out non-binary individuals. In February, DPhiE submitted an amendment to NPC’s recruitment eligibility policy, which NPC replaced in March. If passed at the annual meeting in April, it would have allowed all member sororities to define “woman” as they see fit, finally opening up the possibility for non-binary individuals on college campuses across the country feeling welcome to join the fraternal community. In this pivotal moment, some of DPhiE’s non-binary members shared their stories of how DPhiE’s inaugural policy gave them a home in the sorority community -- and what a larger such policy across the system could mean for other students.

To our disappointment,, the NPC ultimately failed to bring the policy amendment up for a vote at its Annual Membership Meeting, conveying that more research and education was needed for member organizations to make an educated decision. DPhiE developed and formally enacted our sorority’s gender inclusion policy in 2017 with the intention to officially establish an environment that is safe, free from stigma and discrimination, and welcoming for all potential new members, sisters, volunteers and staff, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression. NPC’s decision to forfeit raising this amendment for a vote sends a devastating message that inclusion across college campuses is not a priority to sorority leadership. Sadly, this move neglects to advance the progress of DPhiE’s policy that has made a life-changing difference in the lives of our members. Much like our Founders, we have been tested. However, what remains of utmost importance to us is that our members’ voices be heard and that DPhiE is an inclusive space for all individuals to be their true, authentic selves. Regardless of the NPC’s decision, we will continue our steadfast commitment to inclusivity and will serve as a resource to other NPC member groups if they choose to take steps to update their recruitment eligibility policies. Esse Quam Videri -- to be, rather than to seem to be -- forever drives who we are.

READY, SET W

RING LIGHT

hen the COVID-19 Pandemic began, if there was one thing our chapters and staff were equally as unsure about - it was recruitment. Recruiting new members for our organization is what keeps it going and for most of us those connections that we made in person sealed the deal. People join people, not Zoom rooms. Logistically, how would it work? Would potential new members even register for recruitment? How do preference round emotions play out on camera? Is it possible to have one on one conversations? And don’t even get us started on how in the world you would plan a virtual bid day!

The collegiate experience team leapt into action to provide our chapters with the tools they needed to succeed virtually. Not only was this a first for our undergraduate members and advisors, but it was a first for our staff! Thinking on their feet and moving quickly the department created a virtual recruitment guide, virtual COB guide, virtual preference guide and a virtual be DPhiE supplemental resource guide. They also

1

hosted webinars and Q&A sessions for VPR teams and advisors. Our Fall primary and continuous recruiting chapters conducted hours of virtual workshops, prepped their dorm rooms to have clean backgrounds, bought ring lights, matched their SHIRTS not their PANTS, and mastered the art of

2

breakout rooms. Chapters practiced with other chapters across regions and advisors became IT experts. Collectively, we were embracing this new normal and anticipating what was coming next. Nicolette Peccina (Alpha Alpha Chapter @ West Chester University) became Vice President of Recruitment three months prior to COVID, and she was soon thrown into a recruitment experience she didn’t ask for. “It was really scary going into it. This is new to everyone and no one knew what to expect. Luckily I received so much support from my advisors and sisters. They stuck with me the entire time and made the process worthwhile.” The fear and uneasiness culminated as recruitment began. Something magical happened that shifted the energy of the experience- the realization that for decades Delta Phi Epsilon has recruited using a values based model, where conversations,

not clothes or decorations, are centered began, to take hold. The focus of inclusion, carried our chapters through! Across every college and university, regardless of chapter size or past recruitment experience, the collective need for belonging and community in a place that values you for who your are in this moment, rang true. Success! Chapters exceeded expectations, had values based conversations and provided a valuable sorority experience. Charlotte Haston (VPR,

Zeta Iota Chapter @ Northern Arizona University) reflected, “Virtual recruitment was not an easy task for our chapter, but with so many potential new members missing out on their proms, graduations and college orientations, we were eager to provide them with a sense of belonging.” It was true in 1917, and it is true today - at the end of the day we are all just searching for that sense of belonging and Delta Phi Epsilon can provide that - in person or on Zoom. Just make sure your wifi connection is strong!

6

This is my first year serving as an advisor, after graduating from the University of Georgia where I was a member of the Psi Laure Fitz Simons chapter. There were certainly Psi, Recruitment Advisor Gamma Omega Chapter, challenges that accompanied University of North Georgia virtual recruitment and I think the biggest of these was just the uncertainty of what recruitment would look like when it’s happening over a computer screen, which is something no one had experience with before the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeling uncertain is never comfortable and adding in the usual pressures of recruitment seemed like it could possibly be a recipe for disaster. This experience, however, turned out to be quite the opposite! The members of UNG’s chapter, led by their amazing VPR Gena and recruitment coordinators, put on a stellar virtual recruitment. They learned to embrace and convey their strengths and shining personalities through a computer screen. They ended up recruiting the largest new member class that the chapter has ever had, exceeding quota for the first time since the chapter was chartered. I am so proud of them and all the hard work they put in to make virtual recruitment a success. Learning alongside them how to advise a virtual recruitment process was a great way to really get to know the chapter women and something that I cherish as a first-time advisor. This whole experience served as a great reminder to do your best with what you’re given and that the possibilities are endless!

A VPR Perspective While recruitment is always something to look forward to, it does also come with its challenges. After receiving news that we would have to recruit fully virtual, along with new sets Marissa Farrell Beta Beta Chapter, of rules from our school, my University of Sciences, Vice President of Recruitment team and I had a lot of things with which we would have to become creative. From pairing sisters based on strengths to make the best out of the breakout room feature on Zoom, to reading through the Preference Ceremony with my roommate and chapter President Brittany McGlone at our dining room table, we surely made the best of our virtual situation. Through this virtual experience I learned about my fellow sisters and the roles they took on during recruitment and a lot about myself with my onthe-spot creativity with events. We all might have been a bit intimidated with this new take on recruitment, but no one let it show. The chapter as a whole rose up to these challenges and made the best out of a tough situation just like I know them to do. As a chapter, we worked as the amazing team I know us to be, and conquered this virtual challenge.

2020 - 2021 Iris Award Winners The following members of the DPhiE family, represent staff and volunteers who were nominated and then received an IRIS Award. These individuals each displayed at least one of the three I’s: Innovation, Inclusion and/or Integrity. These three characteristics exemplify our IHQ culture.

WINNERS - IN THE WORDS OF THE NOMINATORS KAILAN BASS

LAURA HULLINGS

Integrity

Integrity

“Kailan is someone who embodies integrity in all that she does. She’s a rapport builder, and is able to do this successfully with chapter members Kailan Bass because she’s never afraid to be her Lead Advisor, genuine self, AND she encourages Epsilon Chi chapter at other members to do the same. William Patterson University Honesty, effective communication and empathy is at the core of her practice as an advisor. Women feel comfortable talking with her, asking for help, guidance and feedback. Kailan wants to connect with the members in which she advises, so that they know she is a resource and support system that they can always go to.”

HEATHER LOCKE GREEN Inclusion “Heather has shown inclusion... with her continued support of marginalized sisters and groups, through her actions. Our chapter Heather Locke Green has been silent in these trying Lead Advisor, times and Heather wanted to send Gamma Gamma chapter a message from the advisors letting at Schreiner University [the chapter] know this is the time to live our principles every day. Heather makes us all better-she has made me better--and I am honored to work beside her as an advisor and sister. “

MICHAEL LEE Innovation Mike has been on staff with DPhiE for a short 7 months, but he has already focused in on process improvement, which is a form of innovation. Last month, Mike shared an idea for Michael Lee improving the communication flow Controller of financial information through International use of technology. He suggested Headquarters we incorporate a chat bot into our website to aid in answering FAQs that his team and others often field which takes time and cuts productivity from our staff members, thus costing money. Instituting an opportunity for self-service is an innovative way to approach a long-term problem.

To Nominate 10

TRIAD Spring 2021

“During the tragedy at the University of Florida, Laura went above and beyond as a lead advisor. She exhibited compassion, sincerity and Laura Hullings made every member feel as though Lead Advisor, Delta Kappa chapter at they had someone they could lean on. She leaped into action offering University of Florida to visit, attending every call but most importantly listened to sisters cry and offered her understanding. She leads by example and with integrity in every interaction she has with a Delta Kappa member.”

VENISSA DE CASTRO Innovation “In an effort to better connect with collegians Venissa has set up an “advisor office hour” once per week rotating through the CAB members Venissa De Castro so that general members can drop Lead Advisor, Zeta Epsilon chapter at in and ask questions, air concerns or just chat. A lot of information we Carleton University used to receive about interpersonal dynamics and organic conversation & relationship building were before and after in-person events and it has been difficult to get that same level of connection with collegians in a virtual environment. This has helped demonstrate the CAB’s commitment and presence for collegians. Most recently, the advisor office hours focused on going over position descriptions and speech writing for chapter elections.”

CRITERIA ● I ndividuals must have displayed one of the three I’s at the time of nomination: Innovation, Inclusion, and/or Integrity. These characteristics exemplify our corporate culture. ● A ll members of IHQ Staff, including house directors, interns, ILCs and volunteers has the opportunity to be nominated ● A dditional criteria will be used to determine worthy candidates and will focus on how much they care, taking pride in always providing the best overall experience for our members. The nominee should also exemplify the core values and standards of DPhiE.

elcome to the Educational Foundation section of the Spring TRIAD 2021. As we all know, 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. Universities closed their doors for the first time in history. Thousands of our members were facing downsizing and pay cuts and our Foundation was scrambling to help as many as we could. We were even forced to stop fundraising less than half-way into our biggest campaign each year, DIMES 4 DPhiE. Through the pandemic, one silver lining has come forward, the global connection of members through online meetings, webinars and even a few happy hours has increased ten-fold. We have, as we always do, leaned into the necessary innovation and are coming out stronger. In 2020, the Harriette Hirsch Sisterhood Fund opened to help sisters who were forced to leave campuses across North America with little to no notice, creating unforeseen costs to them. The Sisterhood Fund donated over $5,285.03 to those sisters facing crisis to help ease the burden. Also, within the section, we celebrate our donors. It is my honor to share a new endowment that is forming thanks to the generosity of Past International President Stacy Segal dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging programs of the sorority. You can read more about it on page 15. Finally, despite the pandemic and thanks to the continued generosity of members like you, the Educational Foundation was able to grant several large scholarships to advance the formal education of women and nonbinary individuals in our sisterhood. I hope you are as moved by their stories as we were. As summer approaches and the possibility of being able to reconnect with sisters in person is quickly becoming a reality, I’ve been reflecting on this past 15 months. I’m so grateful for technology and being able to stay connected to friends and family. I’m also thrilled that our chapters found unique ways to thrive through 2020. The creativity of virtual events from IHQ, alumnae associations and chapters astounds me. Our innovative spirit was very present in the Social Justice Series and Be Social events presented over the past year. Your kind gifts have helped to sponsor such events so they can be free to all members. I’ll be the first to admit I’m beyond ready to see sisters in person, at events or meetings, simply anywhere. I long to sit in board meetings all day and have more thoughtful discussions about supporting our membership. I have no doubt that our in person experience will soon be back up and running and I’m hopeful that we all remember this past year as a time when bonds were strengthened and new connections were made. As we continue forward into the academic year 2022, the Educational Foundation Board will join together with the International Governing Board and the Housing Board to begin formulation on a new strategic plan. There is much to be excited about as we move into the next season of DPhiE. We hope you will join us in funding the important work ahead.

Sororally,

Gina Curtis

INTRODUCING THE...

STACY SEGAL INCLUSION, EQUITY AND DIVERSITY FUND

STACY SEGAL

Psi, University of Georgia

Long-time major donor Immediate Past International President Stacy Segal has begun the funding of an endowment to perpetuate the programs and efforts of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority in the areas of inclusion, equity and diversity. Stacy’s belief in equality and equity for all was the main driver in her desire to direct her giving to these important efforts. “My grandfather was one of the first doctors in our home town to cross lines of segregation and serve all people. He instilled in our family the importance of creating spaces where all people regardless of race or creed can thrive.” Stacy shared.

Stacy started her DPhiE journey at the University of Georgia in the Psi Chapter. After graduating she became an international leadership consultant(known then as traveling consultant) for DPhiE. As a volunteer Segal went on to serve our sorority as the National Panhellenic Delegate for over 10 years before she was elected first vice president of the International Governing Board. Stacy then rose to be the volunteer leader of DPhiE, the international president. Segal herself is no stranger to ground-breaking inclusion work. In 2016, upon her installation into her role as international president, Stacy set the foundation for the efforts of today’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee with the creation of the DEI Task Force, who created the first-ever of its kind Sorority Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit. The Summit hosted a panel of leaders in Delta Phi Epsilon who engaged in an important progressive conversation around the lived experience of our members from marginalized populations within our chapters. The conversation was enlightening and ended with a commitment to moving forward an agenda of creating intersectional inclusion within our sorority. What followed was a transformational four years in Delta Phi Epsilon history with the adoption of the Trans/NonBinary Inclusion Policy and the start of the important social justice focus you see in DPhiE today. The Stacy Segal Inclusion, Equity and Diversity Fund is now open for donations. To designate your donation to the fund, please visit our donation page at www.dphie.org/donate. If you are interested in learning more about tax-deductible donations, setting up an endowment and/or designated donations, please contact our international executive director, Nicole DeFeo at ndefeo@dphie.org.

CHARTING THE COURSE & KEEPING THE COMMITMENT Creating an Inclusive, Modern Sorority Experience

In Delta Phi Epsilon inclusion has been at the core of decision making since 1917 and continues to be at the forefront of who we are today. Our motto, esse quam videri - to be rather than seem to be, combined with our core principles of Justice, Sisterhood and Love, hold us to a higher standard of equity and belonging. For this reason, as an organization, DPhiE tends to be a few years ahead of the general population in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging(DEI&B). Dating back to 2015, through the introduction of our global purpose to create a sense of belonging for ALL members, followed by the first of its kind Diversity and Inclusion Summit in the summer of 2018, DPhiE has been leading the way by listening to our members.

A

across all undergraduate chapters to help create a more inclusive collegiate experience. In addition, the findings of the survey resulted in a recommendation that the sorority conduct a strategic planning effort around these issues.

In the period directly preceding the launch of this planning effort, an important sorority-wide study in DEI&B was commissioned by the international leadership(2019). The survey report concluded, among other things, that Delta Phi Epsilon needed to do more to recruit and retain diverse members, volunteers and staff. It also highlighted the need for more robust cultural competency training

The members of DPhiE commit to increasing diversity, which is expressed in a myriad of orms, including race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origins, religious commitments, and disability status within our membership. We recognize that diversity of thought creates a richer experience for all. Through centering

TIMELINE

s we move into a new strategic planning cycle for Delta Phi Epsilon in 2021, the importance of keeping our commitment to listening and evolving in our DEI&B efforts, is clear and forefront for the leadership of Delta Phi Epsilon. In late February, stakeholders from all levels of membership, from all areas of North America and from all different races, religions and creeds came together to form a true cross-section of our membership. The group participated in a formal environmental scan of our organization from the chapter level up through the lens of DEI&B. This process was led by our international first vice president, Lisa Condon (Phi Tau Chapter, Rutgers University) and international executive director, Nicole DeFeo. A full strategic planning document is under development at the time of publishing of this issue of the TRIAD.

OUR GOALS The International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon along with the International Executive Director charged the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee to bring together a vast and diverse strategic planning focus group to develop a strategic plan in pursuit of the following goals:

KEEPING THE COMMITMENT- STRATEGIES During the planning process, three major strategies were identified. • Create strategic partnerships outside of the fraternity & sorority life industry that supplement and uplift the work of DEI&B • Increase transparency and visibility of DEI work across all levels of the sorority to allow engagement from members from the chapter level to the leadership. • Build chapter training and educational resources to enable the creation of a lived experience of belonging within the collegiate experience in DPhiE.

our value of justice, we will seek opportunities to raise the social consciousness of our members through programs and community discussions.

Equity The members of DPhiE commit to working actively to challenge and respond to bias, harassment and discrimination. We are committed to a philosophy of equity and see the need to create systems that allow all members to thrive in our sorority. DPhiE does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, or religion.

Inclusion & Belonging The members of DPhiE commit to pursuing deliberate efforts to ensure that our sorority is a place where differences are welcomed, where different perspectives are respectfully heard and where every individual feels a sense of belonging and inclusion. We know that by building a vibrant community of inclusiveness, we can more effectively leverage the resources of diversity to advance our collective capabilities.

Tactics for implementation are being developed in each of these areas. Once complete the full DEI&B Strategic Plan will be released to the membership and will be available via our website at www. dphie.org. DPhiE leadership is proud to introduce the beginnings of this plan to our membership and community beyond. It is important to stress that this is both our charted course and a commitment. It’s one important step in our journey, but it is far from the end of our pledge to create an inclusive sorority experience for all members. We will continue to assess our progress, share what went well, what failed, test new ideas and have difficult conversations about tough issues. We will listen, and we will learn as we move forward—in community together. If you would like to volunteer to work on the initiatives outlined in this article, please visit our website www.dphie.org/ volunteers and submit an interest form. To learn about the progress made in our strategic efforts from last quarter watch International President Roxanne Donovan(Gamma Chapter, Syracuse University) and International First Vice President Lisa Condon(Phi Tau Chapter, Rutgers University-Camden) share in this video released during our Founders’ Day Celebration 2021.

ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION & CHAPTER

UPDATES ALUMNAE ASSOCIATIONS ALPHA GAMMA ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION

This year, the Alpha Gamma Alumnae Association has launched a new series called the Deepher X Success Series. This is a virtual Career Panel where alumnae sisters have the opportunity to speak as panelists within their respective careers. Once a month, a different career is highlighted and virtually new members, active sisters and alumnae can learn, network, and discuss their growth and experiences within their career path. It has been a rewarding and learning experience planning the series from start to finish.

BETA PHI ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION Our association is continuing to reconnect with our alumnae sisters by improving our social media outreach and relations with our active chapter. We have also started an association book club, giving us a fun virtual way to connect through our love of reading!

CONNECTICUT ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION Although the Pandemic cancelled many fun plans we had, The Connecticut Alumnae Association has worked to maintain connection during the pandemic through Virtual Book Clubs, rituals, membership meetings, trivia, and happy hours all using Zoom. If you live in Connecticut or around CT and are interested in joining the Connecticut Alumnae Association, please email dphiectalumnae@ gmail.com.

Delaware Alumnae Association

DELTA RHO RECOGNIZED ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION In October 2020, our alumnae gathered virtually to honor our chapter sisters that had entered Chapter Eternal. We especially honored Stacey Fried, who held various leadership roles in DPhiE during her time at Cornell and continued to keep sisters and Cornellians alike connected at various gatherings and events.

INDIANAPOLIS ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION This past year, we have had about a virtual event a month to keep in touch! We’re slowly easing back into in-person events. We are also starting to provide personal/professional development opportunities for local active sisters.

LONE STAR ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION The Lone Star Alumnae Association knew that 2020 was going to be a defining year for our sisters. It would come with struggles but, it also came with the potential to do sorority differently. With this in mind we started planning a state-wide event for all of our Texas sisters. We were able to share stories of our time in DPhiE and updates in our lives. It was wonderful being able to connect with our Houston and North Texas sisters and we hope to do it again soon. Our next large event is going to be our Founder’s Day event were we are partnering with the Houston Alumnae Association, Gamma Delta chapter, and Gamma Gamma chapter! Be on the look out for updates on this event by following @dphielonestar.

Connecticut Alumnae Association

DELAWARE ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION This past fall the sisters of the Delaware Alumnae Association did our best to stay connected and support one another virtually. We continued to host our monthly sisterhood activities via zoom and always have a very active groupme. We’ve also encouraged dialogue around D&I topics through our events. We’ve even been able to grow this year and have added a few new members (sisters and babies!) to our chapter. Being able to connect, support, and celebrate each other this year has given us a whole new appreciation for our sisterhood.

BETA TAU, NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY We took our efforts to raise money for CFF totally virtual this year and our chapter raised over $6,000! This was more than quadruple what we raised last year (in-person). I am so proud of our chapter that is filled with such dedicated and wonderful women who take initiative and thrive despite any challenges thrown our way.

GAMMA BETA, FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY This year, at the Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards, we took home the following: Courtney Searles- Greek Hall of Fame, Leadership Excellence, Most philanthropy dollars raised, Philanthropy Excellence and Brotherhood/sisterhood program of the year. Phoenix Alumnae Association

PHOENIX ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION Our Phoenix Alumnae volunteered at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Our alumnae sisters helped at concessions to raise money for scholarships provided to collegiate sorority women by the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. They looked amazing in their khakis and masks!

SPACE COAST ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION

Massachusetts ZETA DELTA, MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY The Zeta Delta chapter at MIT helped bring attention to the upcoming NPC vote on April 10th to the other Panhel Presidents. Our President and one of our members, Kelly Chen, helped lead a discussion on letter writing and drafted a template for other chapters to use to send to their nationals to vote yes on this policy change. Thank you so much to our IHQ for pushing for this change!! We couldn’t be prouder to be sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Our association recently chartered during the pandemic so our focus has been growing our membership and sisterhood through a variety of virtual events and recruitment. We have been working to improve our social media presence, connecting with Florida active chapters and other alum associations. We are actively recruiting more sisters, so if you live in the central Florida area and are looking to reconnect please reach out to dphiespacecoast@gmail. com.

TWIN CITIES ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION Members of our association have participated in some serious self-care this past year as we’ve gained new hobbies, decorated (and redecorated) our homes, and tried to stay in touch as much as possible. We’ve been keeping up via virtual happy hours, socially distant Christmas parties, and even celebrated a few of our sisters getting married and growing their families. We are so looking forward to in-person brunches, volunteering at events, and ramping up the association again!

CHAPTERS

Florida OMEGA, UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI We are looking forward to our first large scale sisterhood event scheduled for April 18th. We will be hosting a sisterhood yoga session on the campus green led by a fellow Omega alum. This event will be the perfect way to conclude ANAD week; coming together and celebrating self love and positivity! Additionally, this Omega, University of Miami Spring semester, the Omega chapter virtually recruited and successfully virtually initiated 73 new sisters.

Zeta Delta, MIT

Michigan DELTA ETA, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, ANN ARBOR For recruitment this year, our chapter went above quota and was able to recruit an outstanding new member class. Given virtual recruitment, our chapter was still able to have high retention rates between each round, and overall, recruitment went very well for us!

EPSILON LAMBDA, MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY Once a year our school, Michigan Technological University, puts on fraternity and sorority life awards for all of greek life. This year our chapter won 5 awards. These awards were outstanding service/philanthropy initiative, outstanding membership development program, outstanding greek relations, outstanding alumni relations, and Chapter of the Year!

UPDATES (CONTINUED)

New Jersey

GAMMA LAMBDA, CALDWELL COLLEGE

PHI TAU, RUTGERS UNIVERSITY - CAMDEN Currently, our chapter is working to fundraise for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by putting on a virtual deepher dude.

EPSILON GAMMA, STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY One of our sisters, Olivia Trautwein, was recently elected to be the Vice President of Operations of the Stevens Panhellenic Council! She has also gone above and beyond just her position and collaborated with other Stevens Sororities to plan an event for Women’s history month! She is taking on the role of being a moderator for the conversations we will be having around various podcasts and works of literature which is a huge role we are excited to see her take on. Another sister, Daniella Bautista, was appointed to be Gender Advocate of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Stevens! We are so proud of her and all of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing all of the great things she does with this new E-Board position! Daniella truly embodies our motto of “To Be, Rather than Seem to Be” and we are so proud to call her our Sister!

During the pandemic with new LT leadership, we have been trying to expand on events and online opportunities. A lot of our service events have been individual efforts to comply with COVID guidelines. One huge accomplishment in terms of service was that between our 38 active sisters, we were able to collect 87 books in honor of Dr Seuss Day for the DPHIE Educational Foundation to a local school! Aside from this, we were able to reach more than half of our semester goal for donations towards ANAD during our ANAD week! We are so excited for what’s to come from our chapter!

New York LAMBDA, ADELPHI UNIVERSITY We have improved our inclusivity and global awareness by participating in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion week hosted by the Adelphi Panhellenic organization. Our Leadership Team hosted an inter-chapter workshop to educate our sisters about microaggressions. We also shared information to our Instagram page in order to educate the rest of the community about microaggressions, including what they are, how to identify them and how to be more conscious of your language. The Lambda chapter now holds bi-weekly circle times in order to provide sisters with ample outlets to voice their feelings, concerns and experiences, outlets they have come to lack during a pandemic.

EPSILON KAPPA, SUNY CORTLAND We took a new member class of 34, which is one of our largest. We were recognized and awarded for being the organization with the greatest amount of donations to Cortland Crop Hunger walk in the Fall of 2020. We’ve also raised more than $5,000 for cystic fibrosis.

ZETA KAPPA, UNION COLLEGE Epsilon Gamma, Stevens Institute of Technology

ALPHA THETA, STOCKTON UNIVERSITY We were able to host a hybrid Fashion Show during ANAD week this year which was a huge success! Our campus restricted the capacity to 10 people in a room for social events so I had to break the show up into sessions and livestreamed it to the audience. Everyone had a great time and we raised $2,802

TRIAD Spring 2021

This past term, the Zeta Kappa chapter held an amazing ANAD week that raised over $2500 dollars! On our last day of ANAD week, our members sat outside the campus center and asked people to write what they love about themselves on posters! The whole week was filled with events to educate and discuss ANAD with members of DPHIE and members of the Union College Campus.

Minnesota BETA IOTA, SAINT CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY Our virtual ANAD week reached its goal in February! We hope we can continue this trend in the fall at some inperson events.

Alpha Theta, Stockton University

ALPHA SIGMA, SAINT FRANCIS UNIVERSITY

Ohio GAMMA KAPPA, CAPITAL UNIVERSITY Our chapter was able to put on a wonderful ANAD week during the last week of February! We had to adapt to our school’s COVID-19 guidelines which lead to us experimenting with a new way of doing our annual “I Am Beautiful Photoshoot”, and it was one of the best photoshoots we have ever had! We celebrated our bodies in a safe environment, and had a great overall greek turnout! I am so proud of our VPP, Lauren Harris, and her coordinators Gursimran Kaur and Josie Nichols for such a great event!

ANAD has a particularly special place in the hearts of our chapter’s sisters. The vast majority of us have either personally struggled with or watched a loved one struggle with disordered eating, including our Vice President of Programming, who took on this year’s ANAD week with boundless passion. Because of all of her hard work, we have raised over $1,000 for ANAD - far more than we have in years past. We are so proud of our VPP and her dedication to our philanthropies!

ZETA GAMMA, KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY In the spring 2021 semester, the Zeta Gamma chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon raised $2,401 for ANAD. We hosted a month long fundraiser and worked together to gain a lot of donations. We are so excited about our turn out and the way that it worked this semester, even though we held it virtually!

GAMMA NU, SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY On April 14th our sisters participated in an Inclusivity training hosted by the Director of the Women’s and Gender Equity center on our campus. It trained them in using proper terminology regarding ones identity and learning ways to be more inclusive. Our chapter will be recognized at our Lavendar Graduation as the first sorority on campus to be trained in inclusivity.

Pennsylvania DELTA NU, TEMPLE UNIVERSITY We have had a very successful semester, despite many of our normal chapter and sisterhood activities being moved online due to COVID. We worked extremely hard over the course of the summer and last semester and raised over $20,000 for Deepher Dude, despite the event being completely virtual. Moving into the Spring semester, we had a great ANAD week! Our ANAD vigil had an amazing turnout - we had sisters from multiple other Panhellenic organizations join us! This semester we continued to have the highest cumulative GPA on campus and won the NGLA award for Risk Management. As for membership, we had 29 amazing new sisters join our Xi class this Spring!

DELTA PI, PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY Three of our Delta Pi women (Elyse Johnson, Julia Dermody, and Bailey Dismukes) are part of the first all-women team to compete in the Nittany AI Challenge at Penn State. The team is working to create an App to foster a healthy Life-Tech balance. Rhode Island ZETA THETA, UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND Through our virtual ANAD week we were able to raise over $1,900 for the ANAD foundation! Every day we had a different virtual activity such as a self care workshop that was opened up to sisters and the whole URI community in order to raise money and also awareness!

Texas GAMMA SIGMA, TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY Despite having to deal with the challenges of the pandemic, the Gamma Sigma chapter was able to hold a successful, safe, Covidfriendly, in person Deepher Dude week and Pageant. With the help of all who contributed to our cause we were able to donate more than $8,350.00 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
