he drive for excellence part of human nature, every action is aimed at achieving perfection, even if it appears to be something simple. And since human mature itself is complicated, it goes without saying that it is in the pursuit of these actions that the largest obstacles appear from humans competing within themselves, causing damage when the competition is not fair. Fortunately, the converse is also true, persons with high values and morals understand that it is only through union and collaboration that mutual benefits can be reached, and many wonderful things have been accomplished.

This country has its foundations on teamwork and the sense of community. What we are trying to say is that the greatest accomplishments have come from the selfless collaboration of individuals who are aware that the common goal is more important than personal gains, and will not stop their drive for success for any obstacle. This brings to mind the history of the City of Doral, where a very particular anecdote arises. A very nice Swiss friend of mine studied in the University of Miami at the age of her late 80’s and went back to Europe following graduation only to quickly return to

Miami. I visited her not to long ago and when I told her I lived in Doral, she exclaimed in surprise “how can you live in that place? “ she said. “ It’s a horrible place, just a bunch of warehouses and graveyards”. We had to go online and when I showed her what Doral is today, she could not believe it.

The transformation had been so great that she even apologized. It was all done through the work of hundreds of activists, businessmen, volunteers, and everyday people who decided to make Doral a marvelous city. It is not the success of a single person, not a group of persons, but rather of an entire community with a drive, Hispanic mentality that was able to keep pushing forward amid adversity to achieve the unthinkable. And here are some of the results: • “#1 best city for business start-ups” – BusinessWeek • “Named #2 of America’s Top 25 towns to live well for its cultural amenities, pro-business environments, and highly educated workforce.” -Forbes.com • “51st in Top 100 Places to live and Launch a Business in the United States” –CNNmoney.com

• “Named third best place in the USA to retire” –US News & World Report • Named “Tree City USA” • One of the lowest property tax rates in MiamiDade county • All public & charter schools are rated “A” The City of Doral was created with the objective of being the best place to live, work, study and play. With almost 48,000 habitants, around 150,000 work in the city, there are 26 chambers of commerce & business organizations, 48 hotels, 54 banks. There have been 12,000 licenses given and there are over 9000 existing businesses.

There are 12 television stations, and broadcasting studios. In the topic of education, apart from having the best schools, there are 10 highly certified universities. Local groups are constantly having events for aid and promoting different cultures.

The Doral Art Festival unites recognized artists from all styles, year after year. The parks and clubs are areas with excellent athletic facilities and are often home to local and international competitions as well as perfect places for physical development. Doral will also count on a park for pets

at the federal level, and thus prohibits us from even commenting on it.

This is a serious problem, it is the first time that our city faces such a serious situation, but in a democracy is valid and healthy to use your rights to ensure the law is followed.

Logically, we welcome any initiative towards community well being, but with the fairness and equanimity. We can’t exaggerate and draw premature conclusions either. This is the message we want to convey, lets concentrate on the good, fix the bad, but above all, stay united. This should never be the city of rumors, this should be the city of the brave who left it all behind and adapted, who fought and moved forward.

Those who didn’t change their culture, but rather enriched it, who was able to see all of the good in this country and made the most of it.

Let’s go Doral; you are much bigger than your problems.

All of these factors lead to one conclusion, the City of Doral has always sought excellence and in its path to perfections it has encountered stumbles, mistakes, and problems, but none have stopped it, rather they have motivated it to keep pushing forward.

Going back to the title of this article, a recent event that occurred in this city brought to mind the memorable phrase form Cervantes, “when one starts to have an impact, achieving goals, reaching success, is when big problems arise, human condition known for centuries…”

So what happened? An anonymous letter was sent accusing the chief of police for corruption. An investigation was started immediately

L

a búsqueda de la excelencia es una constante en el ser humano, cada acción que se realiza tiene como fin alcanzar la cima mas alta de la perfección, aunque sea algo aparentemente simple.

Y como la naturaleza humana es de por si complicada, no es insólito comprobar que en ese camino a la realización los obstáculos mas duros nacen de la certeza que los seres humanos compiten fuertemente entre si, haciendo daño cuando la lid no es justa.

Afortunadamente, la otra cara de la moneda también toma acción, personas con valores muy altos entienden bien que la unión y la colaboración es la única opción de conseguir un beneficio común y en base a ello, es que se han logrado obras maravillosas. Este país tiene sus cimientos en el trabajo en equipo, en la solidaridad, en la vida en comunidad. Lo que buscamos decir es que los éxitos mas grandes han surgido de la colaboración desinteresada de individuos consientes del que el logro mas grande es el bien común y que no han detenido sus objetivos pese a miles de obstáculos.

Entra en colación entonces la historia de

Ciudad del Doral, y de ahí nace una anécdota bastante singular: una amiga suiza muy querida había estudiado en la Universidad de Miami a fines de los años 80 y luego de graduarse regresó a Europa y escasamente volvió a Miami.

Hace poco yo la visité y cuando le conté que vivía en el Doral me sorprendió su extrañeza: como puedes vivir ahí? me dijo, “si es un lugar horrible, sólo hay almacenes y cementerios”.

Tuvimos que ir al computador y cuando le enseñé lo que era Doral hoy, no me podía creer. La metamorfosis de la ciudad había sido tan grande que hasta se tuvo que disculpar. Todo se había logrado por el trabajo de cientos de activistas, negociantes, voluntarios y seres comunes y corrientes que tomaron la decisión de hacer de Doral una ciudad grande y maravillosa. Y este logro no es de una sola persona , ni de un grupo de personas, si no de una comunidad entera que supo imponer, pese a mucha resistencia, que el aporte joven de la mentalidad hispana podía alcanzar a realizar las proezas mas impensables. Y aquí están algunos de esos resultados: • Está considerada la ciudad de la Florida

para la creación de empresas según Business Week; • Se situa en el puesto # 2 entre las 25 mejores ciudades del país para vivir bien, esto por su oferta cultural, pro-empresarial, medio ambiente, y mano de obra altamente capacitada según Forbes.com • La ciudad de Doral ocupa el lugar 51 entre los 100 mejores lugares para vivir y lanzar un negocio en los Estados Unidos y ha sido nombrada el tercer mejor lugar en los EE.UU. para jubilarse por EE.UU. News & World Report.

• Aparte fue nombrada Tree City USA… • Tiene una de las tasas impositivas a la propiedad mas baja del Condado Dade y todas las escuelas publicas y charter tienen la clasificación “A”.

La ciudad del Doral fue creada con el objetivo de ser el mejor lugar para vivir, trabajar, estudiar y jugar. lugar preciso para el desarrollo físico y esparcimiento, y muy pronto incluso, se contará con un parque para mascotas. Eventos solidarios como Relay of Life o Autism Speaks llenan el parque JC cada año y son grandes los aportes económicos a esas nobles causas.

Todos estos aspectos llaman a una sola conclusión, Doral ha buscado la excelencia y en su camino a esta perfección ha solventado tropiezos, errores, problemas etc., que no la han detenido sino motivado a seguir adelante.

Volviendo al encabezado de esta nota, un reciente evento ocurrido en esta ciudad hace pocos días me hizo recordar la tan mentada frase de Cervantes… cuando uno comienza a impactar, a conseguir logros, a alcanzar el éxito, es cuando vienen los grandes problemas,

hacer uso de la libertad para exigir que se cumpla la ley.

Lógicamente saludamos cualquier iniciativa que tenga como fin el bienestar de la comunidad, pero con la mesura y la ecuanimidad que corresponde. No se puede exagerar y sacar conclusiones de algo que no ha terminado.

Este es el mensaje que queremos enviar, concentrémonos en los bueno, solucionemos lo malo, pero sigamos unidos. Esta no debe ser nunca la ciudad de los rumores, esta debe ser la ciudad de la gente valiente que lo dejó todo atrás, que se adaptó, que luchó y que salió adelante. Que no cambió su cultura si no que la enriqueció, que supo reconocer todo lo bueno que le daba su nuevo país y lo aprovechó.

Que sucedió?: Una carta anónima acusando al Jefe de Policía de la ciudad por corrupción, llego a la alcaldía y posteriormente a los medios de comunicación. Inmediatamente se inició una investigación a nivel de fiscalía, la cual está en proceso y por tanto nos exime y prohíbe de siquiera comentar e intrevistar. Este es un problema grave, la primera denuncia de ese tipo en la historia del Doral, pero en una democracia es válido y saludable

LA SCHOOL is pleased to announce the opening of its new pre-school in the City of Doral, Florida, inspired by our community and under the avantgarde approach of Reggio Emilia’s philosophy. The new school is being constructed at a great pace and will be ready for the next class year, that is, in autumn 2011.

The proposed project will have a 975 square meter surface dedicated for the school and once finished it will be able to accomodate 180 kids from the ages of 3 months to 6 years old. The lot where the new school will be placed is located in 10400 Ave NW 33 Street, in between two important avenues, making the school very well equipped as well as facilitating access and parking.

It will be a one-story building with an important free area that includes patios independent from the classrooms and play areas integrated with the rest of the building. In addition, the nursery boasts green zones, a cafeteria, a crib area, and will count an very carefully thought out aesthetics that will play an important role in games, as well as voluminous colors, appropriate for a child’s development.

The education materials and content that will be utilized by the KLA school of Doral will be carefully chosen to accommodate the different age groups.

“This new facility is being built to satisfy the kids’ natural curiosity and so that they can excel in their learning objectives, like we said before, under the vision of Reggio Emilia…”, states Candelaria Ortega, teaching director for KLA Schools in Brickell.

KLA Schools offers a different method that has become industry standard for American pre-schools.

El material didáctico y equipos que serán utilizados por KLA School de Doral, serán seleccionados cuidadosamente para dar cabida a las diferentes edades que va a servir.

• If you are going to enroll your child for the first time, take care of the necessary procedures ahead of time: Medical exam, vaccines, proof of residence documents, etc. Contact the school for a complete list of these requirements.

• Find out if your child needs any vaccinations. Remember that according to law, schools are not allowed to accept students who have not been properly vaccinated or are lacking a special permit. Contact your school for information on required vaccines, prices, and locations where they can be done.

• Check the school’s online portal for a list of supplies for the upcoming school year as well as the corresponding uniforms. Make these purchases ahead of time.

• Make sure you attend the parent’s orientation at your child’s school. It is usually held a couple days before the start of classes; during orientation you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, and if he is new to the school, he will get the chance to tour the school and get acquainted. You will also be able to get information in all of the special programs that the school provides.

• Obtain a copy of the school calendar so that you can arrange your child’s dentist and doctor’s appointments, and even vacations, to avoid your child missing school.

Remember that for many students, the first day of class does not only imply meeting new teachers and classmates: it is also a source of anxiety for the new challenges that they will face. As parents, we should start making adjustments to better transition from the laid back, summer routine.

Now I offer you some advice to help students prepare for the new school year and minimize their stress from going back to school.

• Return to your routine; re-establish your sleep, reading, and homework schedule.

• Help your child set goals such as getting better grades in reading or turning in all homework on time.

• Speak with your child’s teacher about his/her academic performance and seek ways to help them overcome any difficulties.

• Establish a specific time and place to do homework.

• Promote learning at home. To improve reading abilities, spend at least 2 hours a week reading with your child. To perfect mathematic skills, allow your child to help plan the next family vacation, calculating the miles, fuel costs, and expenses.

• Finally, always support your child and speak with him/her about school and things related to it, and maintain an open dialogue throughout the school year. Remember that every child is different and has different needs and learning methods; so help him learn with a personalized learning style that better suits his needs.

l nuevo año escolar, está a la vuelta de la esquina y los padres debemos prepararnos desde ahora para evitar contratiempos por dejar las cosas para el ultimo mo-

mento.

• Si usted va a matricular a su hijo por primera vez, haga las diligencias a tiempo: examen médico, vacunas, documentación de prueba de domicilio, etc. Puede llamar a la escuela para informarse de los requisitos necesarios.

• Adverigue si su hijo necesita vacunarse. Recuerde que por ley, ninguna escuela puede aceptar a estudiantes que no estén debidamente vacunados o con permiso especial. Usted puede llamar al departamento de salud para informarse acerca de las vacunas, precios y donde pueden adquirirse.

• Revise el portal online de la escuela de su hijo para obtener la lista de útiles para el grado a cursar, así como los respectivos uniformes y haga las comprar pertinentes.

• Asegurese de ir a la orientación para padres en la escuela. Por lo general, se hace unos días antes de iniciar las clases; Allí usted conocerá a la maestra y si el niño es nuevo en la escuela, tendrá la oportunidad de recorrerla. También podrá enterarse de los programas especiales que la escuela brinda.

• Ayude a sus hijos a establecer metas como esforzarse por obtener la mejor calificación en lectura o entregar toda la tarea a tiempo.

• Hable con la maestra de su hijo sobre el desempeño escolar de su hijo y pueden recomendarle formas de ayudarle a resolver cualquier dificultad.

• Establezca un horario y lugar específicos para hacer la tarea.

• Fomente el aprendizaje en casa. Para cultivar las habilidades de lectura, pase al menos dos horas por semana leyendo con su hijo. Para perfeccionar las habilidades matemáticas, permita que su hijo ayude a planear el próximo viaje familiar calculando las millas, los costos de combustible y los gastos.

• Y por último, siempre brinde respaldo y hable con su hijo sobre los miedos relacionados con la escuela y mantenga un diálogo abierto a lo largo del año. Recuerde que cada niño es distinto, y tiene necesidades y un estilo de aprendizaje únicos. Entonces ayude a su hijo a aprender con un método personalizado, que se adapte mejor a sus necesidades.

Speaking of educational excellence, I want to take this opportunity to commend ALL of our Doral schools for once again making an ‘A’ grade this year! I hope that this message finds you well. As we prepare to embark on a new school year, I want to take this opportunity to share with you important information about our school district. First and foremost, I want you to know that despite the challenging times we face as a school district, we will NOT be increasing our property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. We will continue to live within our means and make adjustments where necessary in order to save taxpayer dollars. I know that families across our community are going through difficult economic times, and I believe the worst thing we could do at a time like this would be to increase taxes. Over the next weeks, I will be working with my colleagues on the School Board to put in place a budget which protects our teachers, students, and the quality of instruction inside the classroom. s summer comes to a close, students prepare to settle back into their old routines yet a new school year means new experiences and everyone, freshmen and seniors alike are going in with high expectations.

Senior year can by far be considered the most fun and stressful year for many students, with college applications and countless expenses, seniors anxiously wait to enter the last chapter of their high school lives. “I’m prepared to make some great memories this year, senior year is going to be unforgettable”, said Niki Franco, an incoming senior at Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High. This is a mindset shared by most incoming seniors and its close that of the incoming freshmen. “I’m excited to start high school but at the same time I’m also nervous. It’s a new experience and I’m just hoping to make the best of it”, said Christian Roman, an incoming freshman who will have to attend both the Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High South and Main campus.

While many students are prepared to face certain challenges this year, whether it is a two-campus system or planning their futures, this doesn’t take away from what they hope to achieve this upcoming year. When asked what she expects of her senior year Niki Franco had 3 words to explain it perfectly…“BIGGER and better!”. A new school year always leaves a bittersweet taste with students yet the hopes of experiencing something new is what motivates many to get out of bed at 6 AM. “Waking up earlier is not going to be fun, but like I said, it’s all part of a different experience”, said Roman.

As our community grows so do the expectations students place upon their future and on themselves. We say goodbye to endless summer night and hope to find exactly what we are looking for, unforgettable experiences.

ientras el verano llega a su fin, los estudiantes se preparan para volver a sus viejas rutinas pero sin embargo, un nuevo año escolar significa vivir experiencias nuevas y todo el mundo, estudiantes de primer año y mayores por igual, se van con grandes expectativas.

Doceavo es considerado el año más divertido y estresante para muchos estudiantes, con aplicaciones para la universidad e innumerables gastos, los estudiantes esperan ansiosamente para entrar en el último capítulo de sus vidas de la escuela secundaria.

“Estoy preparada para hacer grandes recuerdos de este año, el último año va a ser inolvidable”, dijo Niki Franco, estudiante de 12o en Ronald Reagan /Doral Senior High. Esta es una actitud compartida por la mayoría de los estudiantes de doceavo y de noveno.

“Estoy emocionado para empezar la secundaria, pero al mismo tiempo también estoy nervioso. Es una experiencia nueva y estoy esperando hacer lo mejor posible “, dijo Christian Roman, un estudiante de noveno, que tendrá que asistir a los dos campus de Ronald Reagan /Doral Senior High, sur y el principal.

Mientras muchos estudiantes están preparados para enfrentar ciertos retos de este año, sea un sistema de dos campus o la planificación su futuro, esto no quita de lo que esperan lograr este año que viene. Cuando se le preguntó lo que ella espera de su último año, Niki Franco tenía tres palabras para explicar perfectamente ... “Más grande y mejor”.

Un nuevo año escolar siempre deja un sabor agridulce con estudiantes pero la esperanza de experiencias nuevas es lo que motiva a muchos a salir de la cama a las 6 PM. “Despertar temprano no va a ser divertido, pero como he dicho, todo es parte de una experiencia diferente”, dijo Roman.

A medida que nuestra comunidad crece también crecen las expectativas de los estudiantes en su futuro y sobre sí mismos. Nos despedimos de las noches sin fin del verano y esperamos encontrar exactamente lo que estamos buscando, una experiencia inolvidable.

How to maximize my child’s potential?

hildren begin to show abilities and skills in different areas of learning and performance throughout the years. Some kids may be good at math; others may prefer reading, art, or probably sports.

Whatever their preference is, your role in helping them will be very valuable for their development and maximizing these abilities. Your support will help them not only in their future’ success but it will also enhance their self-esteem.

As a parent, it is very important to understand that the relevance of helping your child to maximize their potential goes beyond of the results per se. Practicing this supporting attitude may bring other additional benefits such as enhancing their self-confidence and strengthening your parent-child relationship, both of which are key to their life.

Some practical tips that might be useful to maximize your child’s potential are: • Affirm them with positive words every time they get an achievement, let them know how proud you are of them, not just because of the result they obtained, but also of their persistence in doing so.

• Search and take them to places where they can practice and improve their skills. If your child prefers reading, a good idea may be to schedule a visit to the library or take him or her to bookstores which provide circle reading time for kids. If what your child likes is sport, take it to the park or register him/her in a team. Likewise, if they enjoy art, invite them to see a play or registered them in painting, acting or singing classes.

• Encourage your children to have discipline in their activity’s practice.

Promote them to follow their schedule. This will help your child to learn how responsibility and persistence are key points to achieve their accomplishments.

• All children are “experts” in something. If you have noticed that your child does not have a special ability, you may try providing different activities according to his/her age, you will see that soon your child will guide you to the one they prefer (may be football, tennis, painting, singing, etc.).

It is very important to start familiarizing them with the activity gradually, be careful not to over expose it.

Undoubtedly academic performance is very important to their life’s enrichment. However, it is important as parent to remember that there is also many other environments that will enrich your child and will prepare them to success in life.

Como maximizar el potencial de mi hijo?

A

través de los años nuestros niños empiezan a mostrar inclinaciones y habilidades hacia ciertas áreas de aprendizaje y/o desempeño. Algunos pueden ser buenos en la matemática, otros prefieren la lectura, el arte o probablemente lo suyo sea el deporte. Cualquiera que sea su inclinación va a ser muy valioso para su desarrollo, que tu como padre no solo conozcas de esas habilidades, sino que también lo apoyes para que estas capacidades se potencialicen, lo cual, sin duda, va a ser crucial para sus futuros logros así como también para el desarrollo de su autoestima.

Como padre debes tener presente, que la importancia de potencializar las habilidades de tu hijo, no está tanto tan solo, en los resultados que él pueda obtener en sí, sino que este proceso puede generar al mismo tiempo, beneficios tales como el desarrollo de la seguridad en sí mismo y el afianzamiento de su relación contigo.

Algunos consejos prácticos que pueden ser de utilidad a la hora de buscar potencializar las habilidades de tu hijo son: • Afírmalo con palabras positivas cada vez que consiga un logro, déjale saber lo orgulloso que estas de él, no solo por el resultado que obtuvo sino también por su persistencia en lograrlo.

• Provéele de lugares y situaciones donde pueda practicar y mejorar su capacidad. Si a tu hijo se inclina por la lectura, una buena idea será programar una visita a la biblioteca o llévalo a librerías donde varios niños compartan tiempo de lectura. Si lo que a tu hijo le gusta es el deporte, llévalo al parque o inscríbelo en algún equipo deportivo. De la misma manera si disfruta el arte, invítalo a ver una obra de teatro o inscríbelo en clases de pintura, actuación o canto.

• Incentívalo a tener disciplina en el ejercicio o practica de su actividad, motívalo a realizarla dentro del horario dispuesto para hacerla, de tal manera que el niño pueda ir aprendiendo sobre responsabilidad y persistencia para la consecución de sus logros.

• Todos los niños son expertos en algo, si aun no te has percatado de cuál es esa capacidad especial que tiene tu hijo, comienza con proveerle diferentes actividades que vayan acorde con su edad, ve analizando cuál de ellas le llama más la atención (si es futbol, tenis, pintura, canto, etc.) y empieza a familiarizarlo poco a poco con dicha actividad. Ten cuidado de no sobre exponerlo porque probablemente no obtendrás el resultado esperado.

Sin lugar a duda el rendimiento académico es muy importante para el crecimiento y éxito en la vida. Sin embargo, es importante que como padres recordemos que existen otras circunstancias que igualmente enriquecerán a tu hijo y los preparará para tener éxito en la vida. Descúbrelas!

n this installment, we will discuss a topic that while most people do not like it, statistically it takes over 30% of our household’s income: Insurance.

Those that have the least policies, is at least paying for auto insurance.

Let’s take a look at how we can reduce these costs starting tomorrow.

Home Insurance Request a home inspection (approx. $150) to look for new discounts such as hurricane shutters, alarm, smoke detector, and special door locks. In some cases even the sprinkler systems help.

Increase the deductibles Compare other companies (specially if you still have the “Citizens” program, which is about $1000 more expensive than today’s prices.)

Use insurance brokers who represent various companies at the same time rather than requesting a quote from a single institution.

Multiple policies discounts. Purchase home insurance and auto insurance from the same company.

Stop smoking: 23,000 home fires are started every year by cigarettes.

Do you qualify for discounts based on your age? Let your insurance agent know.

Some alumni or business associations offer discounts.

Insure your house, not the land. (In reducing the land’s value in the amount to be insured for theft, fire and storms, the total cost will go down).

Health Insurance Increase the deductibles. Consider purchasing hospitalization insurance only.

(While it does not serve for doctor’s visit, or prescriptions, it costs almost half as much as the full coverage.)

Auto Insurance Increase the deductibles.

Consider discounts for purchasing home and auto insurance from the same company.

Maintain a clean driving record with no tickets.

Compare your policy to those offered by other companies with similar coverage.

Consider a “low profile” car like a sedan. (Sport cars are more costly) If your car contains a “low-jack” or any other theft deterrent system, you may qualify for a discount.

These are some suggestions that have allowed many to reduce costs in this inevitable area without the need to reduce important these important policies that are necessary for living a worry free life in this great country.

n esta ocasión vamos a hablar de ese tema que a mucha gente NO le gusta pero que estadísticamente toma casi un 30% del ingreso que entra a nuestra casa: SEGUROS! La persona que menos tiene, ya esta pagando por lo menos un seguro de auto. Vamos a ver como podemos reducir el costo de ellos empezando mañana.

Seguros de CASA - Mande hacer una inspección de su casa ($150 aprox.) para encontrar nuevos descuentos como Paneles de Huracanes, Alarma, detectores de humo y cerraduras especiales en sus puertas. En algunos casos hasta el sistema de riego ayuda.

- Aumente los deducibles - Compare otras compañías (especialmente si todavía tiene el viejo programa de “Citizens” que es como $1000 mas caro que los precios de hoy.

- Use “brokers” o corredores de seguros que representan varias compañías a la vez en lugar de cotizar con una sola organización.

- Descuentos por múltiples programas. Compre el seguro de casa y de auto con la misma institución.

- Ya califica para descuentos por su edad? Déjeselo saber a su agente de seguro.

- Algunas organizaciones de alumnos o de negocios ofrecen descuentos.

- Asegure su casa no la tierra. (al reducir el valor de la tierra en la cantidad para asegurar para robo, incendio y huracán, bajara el costo total) Seguros de SALUD Suba los deducibles; Considere comprar solamente el seguro de hospitalización (aunque no le sirve para visitas al médico, ni medicinas fuera del hospital, vale casi la mitad del programa completo)…

Seguros de VIDA Los mas comunes son los de protección temporal (cierto numero de años) o “TERM” por 20 a 30 años durante los cuales el precio no cambia. Cómprelo cuando este saludable y entre mas joven mejor.

Su nivel de Colesterol y su peso también le pueden originar descuentos Comprar seguro de protección SOLO e invertir la diferencia en un vehiculo separado, (ROTH IRA) en la mayoría de los casos produce mejores resultados que ahorrar en vehículos conjuntos como Whole Life o Universal Life. Si dejo de fumar, déjeselo saber a su agente. Si el costo es alto, considere el seguro fijo por menos años.

Seguro de AUTO -Suba los deducibles y considere descuentos por comprar seguro de casa y de auto con la misma empresa.

-Mantenga su record de Licencia de manejar limpio y sin multas.

-Compare con otras compañías que tengan empresas con la misma calificación.

-Considere tener un auto de “Low profile” como un Sedan (Sport Cars son mas costosos).

-Si su carro tiene un “Low Jack” u otro accesorio de prevención de robo, usted califica para otro descuento.

Estas son algunas sugerencias que han permitido a muchas personas reducir los gastos en esta área inevitable sin necesidad de que cancele las importantes coberturas necesarias para tener una vida tranquila en este gran país.

e senti honrada quando fui chamada pelo diretor do Doral Family Journal a escrever pela primeira vez, em Português. Sou Brasileira, moro em Doral, sou Professora e Advogada no Brasil. Estudei tembém, um pouco da Lei Americana em Nova Iorque. Tenho 18 anos de advocacia no Brasil atuando em Direito Comercial e Família. É com esta experiência que tenho este espaco, para informar a você leitor brasileiro, alguns pontos importantes que mudaram ou se transformaram na Lei Brasileira que podem interferir em suas vidas aqui no exterior.

Desta vez vamos falar em um fator importante que é o que mudou para autorizar a viagem de menor ao exterior: O Conselho Nacional de Justica, publicou a nova Resolução número 131 no dia 26 de maio de 2011, que altera as regras para a autorização de viagem de menor e adolescente ao exterior. A partir de agora, o reconhecimento de firma nas autorizações de pais ou responsáveis, nao precisam ser feitas por autenticidade, isto é, na presenca de tabelião, mas pode se dar por semelhança, por meio do reconhecimento de firma já registrada em cartório, ou seja, os pais da criança não precisam mais comparecer pessoalmente no cartório do Brasil. A resolução também determina que, mesmo que não haja reconhecimento de firma, são validas autorizações de pais ou responsaveis emitidas na presenca de autoridade consular brasileira, desde que a autoridade também assine o documento. Permite ainda que os pais autorizem a viagem por meio de escritura pública.

Com as novas regras fica revogada a Resolução 74/2009 que disciplinava o tema. A nova resolução aprovada por unanimidade na sessão plenária do dia 24 de maio, foi elaborada em parceria com o Ministério das Relações Exteriores e a Policia Federal. O texto dispensa também a fotografia da criança no documento que autoriza a viagem.

Estas mudanças servem para crianças e adolescentes que precisam fazer viagens internacionais, desacompanhados do pai, da mãe ou do responsável legal , na companhia de um dos pais ou acompanhados de terceiros, referido documento deverá conter também, o prazo de validade, caso esta informação seja omissa, referida autorização ficará valendo por 2 anos.

A resolução também traz normas práticas para a autorização de viagem internacional de crianças e adolescentes brasileiros que residem no exterior, modificando a norma anterior que era omissa, agora, a comprovação da residência no exterior, no embarque da criança, é feita com a apresentação do atestado de residência emitido por Repartição Consular Brasileira.

Let’s talk about some important issues to travel from Brazil with kids and teenagers: The National Council of Justice of Brazil published a new resolution number 131 in May 26, 2011 changing the rules for under age travel authorization. Now, you can recognize your signature without your personal presence in the clerk, you can also do it in a Brazilian Consulate with the Consul’ signature. The parents also can do the Public Scripture.

These new rules revoked Resolution number 74/2009. The new resolution approved for all participants in May, 24 at the Plenary Session, had been made in partnership with the Brazilian Foreign Office and Federal Police. You don’t need to include the kid’s picture as before. It’s happen when the kids or teenagers will travel without one of your parents or with a third person. This document must contain expiration date but if not, it will be valid for two years.

The resolution have also practices rules for Brazilian kids and teenagers travel authorization who live in another country, (like here in USA) adding new rules in this case, because it was silent, now you can also proof your residence out of Brazil with document issued by the consular authority.

ou’ve seen them on the streets, you’ve been stopped by them a couple times, and you’ve probably hated them every now and then but an interview with Officer Noel Feliciano showed that the City of Doral Police Department offers a lot more than traffic tickets.

With programs like “Police Explorers”, CodeRED Emergency Messaging Systems, DARE, Neighborhood and Business Crime Watch, Police Watch Order on residential and business properties, Parks and Police for Kids afterschool program, and a curfew for Doral teenagers the Doral Police Department proves to be more than what meets the eye.

The most famous of these being the teenage curfew, infamous to teenagers and unknown to several parents, the curfew applies to those under the age of 17 by restricting the nighttime hours they are permitted to be out of their homes.

“Our main priority is keeping the community safe, and what’s the safest place teens could be? Home,” said Officer Feliciano.

The rules of the curfew are simple, Sunday to Friday those under 17 cannot be out between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M., and from Friday night to Sunday morning the curfew applies between midnight and 6:00 AM. The only exception is that the minor is accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older. Although seen as annoying and restricting by most teens, the curfew is made to be proactive and prevent anything from happening and Officer Feliciano urges parents to get informed of not only this but of all the other prevention programs the police force has created.

It’s easy to see the police as the “bad guys” but the reality is that they are just trying to create a safe community; they work for our community’s interest rather than against it. El Departamento de Policía de la Ciudad de Doral ofrece un programa llamado “Police Explorers” para aquellos que desean entrar en el mundo de la aplicación de la ley.

Los objetivos de este programa es ayudar a los adultos jóvenes entre las edades de 14 y 18 años para que aprendan acerca una posible carrera, para que participen en actividades con su comunidad, tanto social y comunitaria, y promocionar liderazgo. Los “Police Explorers” hacen todo, desde recogidas de juguetes de Navidad hasta limpieza de vecindarios.

Ellos tendrán la oportunidad de aprender sobre cómo se responde a la amenaza de bomba, control del tránsito, y otras habilidades de un agente de la policía, además del desarrollo de liderazgo, disciplina y respeto hacia los compañeros y agentes de la policía.

La participación requiere que los exploradores mantengan un promedio de C o superior, permanezcan en la escuela durante todo el programa, no tener record policial, y estar dispuestos a asistir a las reuniones y eventos voluntariados.

El programa “Police Explorers” motiva a los jóvenes de permanecer en la escuela y que sean activos con su comunidad mientras que les da una idea de lo que algún día pudieran seguir como una carrera. “Algunos de nuestros propios oficiales fueron exploradores”, dijo el Oficial Noel Feliciano.

or some students college gets closer everyday and with it come a lot of questions and doubts that are often answered too late. Students in High School tend to think that the best “admisión ticket” is a perfect GPA; however, this is often just a part of the entire process.

“I’m really worried and anxious, but in a way it’s exciting, its college you know? And plus I feel like I’m [going to] be one step closer to what I really [want to] do” commented Ronald Reagan/ Doral High School senior Maria Navarro.

During High School and even Middle School students have to keep their grades, test, and extracurricular activities in mind in order to become the so called “well rounded student”. It is vital for college acceptance that students take the standardized tests “SAT” and “ACT” and take it more than once in order receive optimum results. “I’m planning on taking it again but I’m not that stressed about it since I’m not that discouraged with my first score” said Navarro.

Underclassmen in High School should take advantage of the resources available to them; many schools offer dual enrollment programs and academies that may accommodate to the student’s likes and goals.

This will not only improve their academics but would better guide them towards choosing the best career and university.

It is also important that students participate and get involve in both their school and their community. This will allow them to get their community hours ready and perhaps a project if they are aware of their community’s biggest issues. It will also open many doors to internships and perhaps jobs that would further enrich the student’s college application. In fact, the city of Doral has multiple events throughout the year which are open to all members of the community and welcome volunteers especially teenagers.

When completing the actual application students should be especially careful with the admisión essay, since most colleges and universities consider it the personal part of the application. They recommend for students not to be too sophisticated or over analytical with their essays but rather discuss about issues that truly concern and passionate them in an educated manner. Recent graduate Andres Guede comments on how her application was perhaps the main reason why she was accepted to her university of choice, Boston University. When asked to advice students in the process of applying she said, “Stick true to yourself and your words, and write something that you’re honestly passionate about. Whether you write about the first time you drove, a death of a close relative or a Popsicle that you dropped on the floor when you were three-years-old, there’s plenty to write about. Be the oddball out and make yourself stand out. Don’t be afraid to take risks.”

Furthermore, in order to save as much money as possible students and parents have to be aware of the resources that the state and county provide, like the free waivers for tests and college applications and perhaps the most important one is filling out the FAFSA Financial Aid application. Guede also advised to make these a top priority in your to-do list when filling out an application. Having every form and information ready takes longer and is a more tedious job; hence, it is crucial to familiarize with the application as quickly as possible and start working on it early. Also, students should speak with the guidance counselor at their school about posible scholarship options, which would greatly help them financially.

Lastly, the key to finding the right college and one that suits your financial situation and personality is to learn as much as possible about that college. Visiting their website is the first step and from there on you can view the list of majors and even take a virtual tour. Research is the best way to get information about all the programs a school may or may not offer, “The fact that I can graduate with not just one, but two bachelor’s degrees through their dual-degree program was a huge plus”, commented Guede.

Most colleges offer summer programs for high school students and throughout the year they have informational sessions as well as guided tours. RRDSH Senior Marlow Bryant attended a debate seminar at Georgetown University in Washington DC, “it’s been really [very] intense, going to class from 9AM to 9PM. At first I felt like I was wasting my summer, but now I feel like I’ve learned a lot.”

Andrea Eder a Senior at RRDSH explained that her visit to Washington State University was very educational; she wants to attend this university mainly because of their concentration in sports, since she is an varsity volleyball player. However because of her visit Eder was able to “[learn] about the different classes you can take” and have a better perspective of the school.

Universities around the country agree that the only way to actually picture you studying and living in a particular university is to actually walk around its hallways, meet its students and explore the campus. It is the only way students can get in contact with the social life and the atmosphere of the university. Bryant commented that after staying in the university he was actually motivated to apply due to its environment, “this is where stuff happens; it’s a bizarre feeling to be able to walk right up to the capitol building or the pentagon, these things that didn’t really exist in any way other than on the TV”

No tengas miedo a tomar riesgos.”

Asimismo, con el fin de ahorrar la mayor cantidad de dinero posible, los estudiantes y los padres tienen que ser conscientes de los recursos que el estado y el condado ofrecen, al igual que las exenciones gratis para las pruebas y las aplicaciones de la universidad y quizás la más importante es llenar la solicitud FAFSA Ayuda Financiera. Guede también aconseja que estos formularios se conviertan en una prioridad al llenar la solicitud.

Tener todos los formularios y la información lista es lo que más se demora y es un trabajo más tedioso, por lo tanto, es trascendental familiarizarse con la solicitud lo más rápido posible y comenzar a trabajar en forma temprana. Además, los estudiantes deben hablar con el consejero de su escuela acerca de las opciones de becas, estas les brindaran una gran ayuda financiera.

Por último, la clave para encontrar la universidad ade-

cuada y que se adapte a su situación financiera y a su personalidad es aprender lo mas que pueda acerca de la universidad. Visitar su sitio web es el primer paso, a partir de ahí se puede ver la lista de títulos universitarios disponibles e incluso realizar una visita virtual. La investigación es la mejor manera de obtener información sobre todos los programas de la escuela que puede o no, ofrecer… “El hecho de que puedo graduarme con dos títulos de licenciatura a través del programa de doble titulación es una gran ventaja”, comentó Guede.

La mayoría de las universidades ofrecen programas de verano para estudiantes de secundaria y durante todo el año se hacen sesiones informativas, así como visitas guiadas. El estudiante de RRDSH, Marlow Bryant asistió a un seminario de debate en la Universidad de Georgetown en Washington DC: “ha sido muy intenso, asistir a clase de 9am a 9pm. Al principio me sentí como si estuviera perdiendo el verano, pero ahora siento como que he aprendido mucho”.

Universidades de todo el país coinciden en que la única forma de saber si un estudiante en realidad quiere estudiar y vivir en una universidad en particular, es caminar por sus pasillos, conocer a sus alumnos y explorar el edificio. Es la única manera en la que los estudiantes pueden ponerse en contacto con la vida social y el ambiente de la universidad. Bryant comentó que después de pasar un verano en la universidad se sintió motivado aplicar debido a su entorno, “aquí es donde las cosas pasan, es una sensación extraña ser capaz de caminar hasta el edificio del Capitolio o en el Pentágono, estas cosas realmente no existían aparte de la televisión”.

ara algunos estudiantes la universidad se acerca cada día más y con ella vienen un montón de preguntas y dudas que suelen responderse demasiado tarde. Los estudiantes en la escuela secundaria tienden a pensar que el mejor “boleto de entrada” es un promedio perfecto, sin embargo, esto sólo una parte de todo el proceso.

“Estoy muy preocupada y ansiosa, pero de una manera emocionante, es la universidad, sabes? Y además me siento como si estuviera dando un paso más cerca a lo que realmente quiero hacer “, nos dice María Navarro, estudiante de Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High School.

Durante la escuela secundaria y la escuela media, los estudiantes tienen que mantener las buenas calificaciones, pruebas, y las actividades extracurriculares en cuenta para llegar a ser los llamados “estudiantes completos”. Es de vital importancia para la aceptación de la universidad que los estudiantes tomen los exámenes estandarizados “SAT” y “ACT” y tomarlos más de una vez con el fin de obtener resultados óptimos. “Estoy pensando en tomarlo de nuevo, no estoy tan estresada porque no me desanimado mi primer resultado”, dijo Navarro.

Los estudiantes de noveno y décimo deben aprovechar los recursos disponibles para ellos. Muchas escuelas ofrecen programas de doble inscripción y academias que pueden adaptarse a los gustos y metas del estudiante. Esto no sólo mejorará su rendimiento académico, sino también les ofrecerá una guía hacia como elegir la mejor carrera y universidad.

Asimismo es importante que los estudiantes participen y se involucren tanto en su escuela como en su comunidad. Esto les permitirá completar sus horas de trabajo comunitario y tal vez un proyecto si son conscientes, de los mayores problemas de su comunidad.

También les abrirá muchas puertas para pasantías y puestos de trabajo que enriquecerán aún más la solicitud del estudiante a la universidad. De hecho, la ciudad de Doral tiene múltiples eventos durante todo el año,

L

eonardo Timor is one of those musicians that are captivating not only for their talent, but for being down to earth and having a good sense of humor. Born in La Habana, Cuba, he was introduced to music by his father, who is of the same name. In an interesting and comical bit, his mother, practically forced him to take piano lessons for two years. “I didn’t like it” says Timor, “but it was helpful for letting me see music in more detail”.

The miraculous encounter occurred when he was still just a child. “My father brought home a trumpet from a musician friend of his. Like any child, I was curious and decided, without permission, to hold it in my hands. Even when I couldn’t play the instrument, I felt that it was my thing, that we were connected.”

And that bond was never broken since.

Following the two years of piano his mom made him go through, he abandoned the piano to dedicate himself to the trumpet. “It is a very difficult instrument.” He adds, “with the piano, the guitar and others, the notes are there, fixed in place. With the trumpet you have to create them”.

Further in his career, he would go on to be part of famous orchestras like those of the master Somavilla, Lucuona Cuban Boys, and more. And if we are talking about performing alongside others, he performed with Nat King Cole in Tropicana, the unforgettable Edith Piaf, and internationally known Cuban singers such as Rosita Fornes. His talent won him the title of “The Jazz Poet”.

The Jazz Poet cares for and reaches out to the new generations. Timor speaks with passion of the young musicians, especially those in the island, who work hard without being recognized or given then chance to express themselves. “ It hurts me, when I see and hear these kids, they are great, talented with their instruments, but do not have the luck of being chosen, no one knows them, and they don’t have the chance to prove themselves”. Leonardo really forgets who he is and what he has achieved when he reaches out to them, seeing them as equal and placing them

in superior category in which he does not include himself.

In the hands of his son Lenny, his daughter-in-law Ana Silvia and friend Diana Gutierrez, the Leonardo Timor Arts Center has begun to gain ground and followers in the Floridian community of Doral.

The first of the purposes for the center was to rescue Timor from lethargy, which was almost deadly for him, which he had gotten due to his age and the aggressiveness of the media. It seemed like all of the broadcasters had forgotten that good music does not die, and that

dedicates time and effort, with the goal of making them recognized and heard.

This is this case for Glenda de la Torre, concert pianist, and Andy, and a concert trumpeter. Neither is older than 22 and they have already performed with orchestras of high caliber, yet here, where they live, they are not known nor paid attention to. These young artists play their interpretations on classics like “Ave Maria” with power and delicateness that merit admiration. The rescue of young talents does not only allow people who assist our Center the opportunity to enjoy the arts, but it also gives them the

ery rehearsal. Emotions are everywhere and no one can stop him/herself from letting a tear slip, the entire ambient concentrates on the communication of these emotions. But there is more in relation to the school. The selfless, pedagogical labor turns to accepting children who require special care. The arts are a proven therapeutic element in aiding the development of concentration and general intellect, widening the horizons of people in the individual level, and the social level.

Just like when he was asked to form the Modern Cuban Music Orchestra, for which he gathered great talents to the likes of Arturo Sandoval, Paquito de Rivera, “Trompetica,” Valera and others.

The fact of the matter is that to enjoy his instrument and feel the music at is maximum; he refused to direct the orchestra and gave the job to Master Romeu, to have the opportunity to be just another musician.

Silvia y su amiga, Diana Gutiérrez, la escue-la de artes Arts Center Leonardo Timor ha comenzado a ganar terreno y adeptos en la comuni-dad Floridana del Doral.

La primera de las funciones del Centro fue la de rescatar a Timor de las garras de un le-targo, para el mortal, en el que estuviera sumido gracias a la edad y la insensatez de los medios. Pareciera que todos los centros de difusión se hubieran olvidado que la buena música no muere y que, la buena música es capaz de transportar y arrancar del pecho sentimientos que ni sospe-chábamos que tuviéramos.

Con la fuerza pujante que los caracteriza, Lenny, Ana Silvia y Diana, arrastraron al “Poe-ta” y su música, y los lanzaron a volar nuevamente. Realmente una inyección de vida para los ojos y el alma del “viejo,” como cariñosamente, solemos llamarlo. Timor es un padre para todo aquel que se le acerca con el interés de, bien aprender la buena música, bien el solo interés de escucharla y disfrutarla. El siguiente rescate fue dirigido a la juventud que el Maestro adora. En el seno de nuestra comunidad crecen jóvenes con un talento superior, para quienes nuestro Centro dedica fuerzas y empuje, con el afán de que sean reconocidos y escuchados.

Sus edades no van más allá de los 22 años y ya han tocado en otras venias con orquestas de alto calibre, pero acá, donde viven, no se les conocía ni se les prestaba atención. El rescate de jóvenes talentos, no sólo le ha permitido al público que ya asiste a nuestro Centro el disfrute pleno de las artes, les ha dado por más, la posibilidad de ser testigos participantes de una preciosa interacción generacional en la

Clases de pintura y música están por comenzar y, con la colaboración de amigos cerca-nos y otros músicos que admiran el trabajo del Poeta de Jazz, se le dio forma a 123 Arts Center Leonardo Timor Big Band. Nombre grande para una orquesta que agrupa a músicos grandes y un sonido que engrandece —no sólo a quienes, donando su tiempo, interpretan piezas del re-pertorio internacional— si no también a quién escucha. Cuando los instrumentos musicales se tocan con el corazón, llegan al corazón del resto del mundo. Esto es lo que sucede en cada en-sayo. Las emociones se desbordan, y no falta quien deje correr una lágrima, todo el ambiente se sublima en una comunicación de emociones. Pero hay más en relación con la escuela. La la-bor pedagógica se torna altruista al acoger niños que requieren cuidados especiales. Las artes son un probado elemento terapéutico que ayuda al desarrollo de la concentración y el intelecto en general, amplia los horizontes de las personas a nivel individual, y a nivel social.

De muy pocas cosas se queja Leonardo Timor, y una de esas pocas es el hecho de que nadie nunca le preguntara lo que quisiera ser si, después de la muerte reencarnara. La respues-ta fue tan sencilla como “quisiera ser sólo uno de más de la banda, un músico más.” Tal como cuando se le pidió que fundara la Orquesta de Música Moderna en Cuba, para la cual, agrupó a increíbles interpretes tales como: Arturo Sandoval, Paquito de Rivera, “Trompetica,” Valera y otros super-virtuosos. El hecho es que, con tal de disfrutar su instrumento y sentir al máximo la música que se interpretaba, se negó a dirigir la orquesta y le cedió el puesto al Maestro Romeu, para poder tener la oportunidad de ser uno más.

L

eonardo Timor es uno de esos músicos que cautiva, no sólo por su genialidad, también por su sencillez y buen humor. Nacido en La Habana, Cuba, desde muy temprana edad fue guiado al mundo de la música por su padre, de igual nombre. Su madre, lo obligo a cursar dos años de piano. “No me gustaba” dice Timor, “pero me sirvió para conocer la música.”

Aún siendo niño el milagro del encuentro sucedió: “Mi padre había llevado a la casa la trompeta de un amigo músico. Como todo niño, sentí curiosidad, y sin permiso, agarré aquella trompeta en mis manos. Aún cuando no podía tocar el instrumento, sentí que era lo mío, que estábamos conec-tados.”

Y el lazo no se rompió jamás desde entonces.

Cumplidos los dos años impuestos por la madre, abandonó el piano para dedicarse en alma y vida a la trompeta. “Es un instrumento muy difícil” comenta, “con el piano, la guitarra y otros instrumentos, las notas están ahí, fijas en un lugar. Con la trompeta hay que crear las notas.”

Más adelante en su carrera, formaría parte de orquestas tan famosas como la del maes-tro Somavilla, Lecuona Cuban Boys y otras. Acompañó a Nat King Kole en Tropicana, a la inigua-lable Edith Piaff y cantantes cubanas de talla internacional como Rosita Fornés. Su virtuosismo le ganó el título de “El Poeta del Jazz.”

El Poeta del Jazz se emociona y toma partido por las nuevas generaciones. Timor habla de los jóvenes músicos que, sobre todo en la Isla, afloran día a día sin que se les reconozca co-mo se debe.

“Me duele cuando veo y escucho a esos muchachos; son geniales, virtuosos en sus instrumentos, pero si no tienen la suerte de ser escogidos, nadie jamás los conoce, no cuentan con la posibilidad de probarse a sí mismos.”

When the time comes to apply for your Medicare benefits, don’t worry about trudging into the heat and making your way in the blazing sun to a Social Security office. Just pour yourself a tall glass of iced tea, sit back in the comfort of your home or office, and go to www.socialsecurity.gov.

Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is go online. You can use our online application to sign up for Medicare, even if you are not ready to retire. It takes less than 10 minutes.

Keep in mind that if you’re applying to start receiving Social Security benefits at age 65 or are already receiving benefits, your enrollment in Medicare is automatic and no additional application is needed. However, if you’re within four months of your 65th birthday and you plan to delay your retirement benefits, you should consider applying for Medicare.Applying for Medicare on the Internet is convenient, quick, and easy. There’s no need to drive to a local Social Security office or wait for an appointment with a Social Security representative. Enlarged Adenoids

hat are adenoids? Well, there are a mass of tissue which can be located in the passage that connects the back of the nasal cavity to the throat. One of the properties of the adenoids is the production of antibodies to help the body fight infections, adenoids help in the control of bacteria and viruses that enter through the nose... We should point out that adenoids usually shrink in and around the age of five years and often they tend to dissappear by the teen years.

We already know that adenoids is a tissue whereby they can trap germs that enter our body and they can temporarily swell as it tries to fight an infection wheter bacteria or viruses. When the adenoids swells these are some of the symptoms associated with their enlargement: •Difficulty breathing through the nose •Breathing thru the mouth.

•Talking as if the nostrils are pinched •Noisy breathing •Snoring.

•Symptoms of sleep apnea or the child may stop breathing for a few seconds when asleep •Frequent symptoms of sinusitis.

•Ongoing middle ear infections or persistence of middle ear fluid or effussion in the school aged child.

When you are visiting your Doctor Pediatrician will be assessing the medical history of your child as well as assessing the patient’s presentation..If enlarged or infected adenoids keep bothering your child and are

not controlled by medication,the doctor may recommended some radiographical studies o may refer to an specialist such as an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor, for further evaluation. If the clinical or medical approach has failed the recommendation of a surgical approach maybe needed.

We already touched in some of the symptoms in the previous paragraph but if the history also brings about recurrent infections specially of the middle ear as well as middle ear effussion with hearing loss requiring a second or third set of Ventilation tubes then,suirgical removal or Adenoidectomy shall be considered.

Having your child’s adenoids removed is especially important when repeated infections lead to sinus and ear infections.Badly swollen adenoids may interfere with the ability of the middle air space to stay ventilated.This can sometimes lead to infections or middle ear fluid causing a temporary hearing loss.So kids whose infected adenoids cause frequent earaches and fluid build up might also need an adenoiectomy at the time of the ear tube surgical placement.

And, although adenoids can be taken out without the tonsils,if your child is having tonsils problems,they may remove them at the same time. A tonsillectomy with adenoiectomy is the most common pediatric surgical approach.

Q

ué son las adenoides? Nos preguntamos, pues bien son una masa de tejido que su localidad esta en el conducto que conecta la parte posterior de la cavidad nasal y nuestra garganta. Este tejido fabrica anticuerpos que ayudan al organismo combatir infecciones y a su vez ayudan al control de las bacterias y viruses que nos entran por la nariz. Es de notar que las adenoides se comienzan a encoger alrededor de los 5 años de edad y tienden a desaparecer por completo durante la adolescencia.

Cuales son los síntomas cuando se sufre de inflamación de las adenoides? Sabemos que es un tejido que al entrar gérmenes o bacterias se inflama temporalmente mientras intenta combatir esa infección. Los síntomas que podemos encontrar al inflamarse las adenoides son: • Dificultad al respirar por la nariz • Respirar por la boca • Tener un habla nasal, como si tuviera la nariz tapada.

• Respirar ruidosamente.

• Roncar • Dejar de respirar durante unos segundos durante el sueño • Síntomas de sinusitis frecuentes.

• Infecciones del oído medio recurrente o fluido en el oído medio en la edad escolar Cuando visite a su médico Pediatra, él evaluará el historial médico de su hijo, y la presentación del paciente... Si las adenoides inflamadas o infectadas están molestando a su hijo y no son controlados por la medicación, el médico puede recomendar algunos estudios radiológicos o referirlo a un especialista de garganta, nariz u oídos… Si el tratamiento clínico o medicamento, fallan es posible que su medico Pediatra estime conveniente extirparle las adenoides cuyo procedimiento se denomina Adenoectomía. Esto es si el niño presenta los sintomas que hemos elucidado en el párrafo anterior y que además de esas dificultades tengan, infecciones de oído recurrentes y perdidas auditivas que hayan requerido implantar tubos en el oído medio por segunda o tercera vez.

Extirparles las adenoides a un paciente de la edad pediátrica es esencialmente importante cuando hay infecciones recurrentes de los senos nasales y de oídos.

La intensa inflamación de las adenoides puede impedir que el oído medio este bien ventilado. A veces, esto conlleva infecciones o a la formación de fluido (efusión) en el oído medio, lo que se asocia a perdidas auditivas temporales. Por lo tanto, los niños a quienes unas adenoides infectadas le provocan frecuentes dolores de oídos y la acumulación de fluido en el oído, es posible que requieran una adenoectomía en el momento de que se le implanten tubos de drenaje del oído.

Debemos de hablar de las amígdalas ya que si su hijo tiene también problemas de sus amígdalas, ambas se pueden extirpar simultáneamente. La extirpación de las amígdalas (amigdalectomía) junto con una adenoidectomía siendo la intervención quirúrgica pediátrica mas frecuente.

My “other self”: The diabetic

was born in June, under the influence of the planet Mercury. Thus, my zodiac sign is Gemini. But I have to confess that of all Gemini, I am the most genuine, because I have two personalities. Just as Dr. Jekyll had his Mr. Hyde, I have myself and my “other self”, the diabetic.

As an overweight diabetic, I am aware of all the implications that eating snacks can have on my health. I know I should not eat them, but my “other self” still has not been made aware of it.

This is why, each time I go shopping at the supermarket, bags of Doritos, Cheetos and others “mysteriously” appear in my cart.

If my daughter comes shopping with me, it is possible that my “other self” does not get its way, but if I am alone, it is very probable that my coveted treasure hitches a ride home with me and spends a brief time in my pantry before it disappears by a magic.

The problem arises the next day when I test my blood sugar levels and, inevitably, they spike up into the frightening 300s.

o nací un mes de junio, bajo la influencia del planeta Mercurio. Por lo consiguiente, mi signo zodiacal es Géminis. Pero debo confesarles que de todos los géminis, yo soy el más auténtico, porque yo tengo dos personalidades. Tal como Dr. Jekyll tenía a su Mr. Hyde, yo tengo mi propio yo y mi “otro yo”, el diabético.

Como diabético con sobrepeso, entiendo todas las implicaciones que, para mi salud, acarrea el consumo de los populares “snacks”. Yo sé que no debo comerlos, pero mi “otro yo” aún no se ha dado por enterado. Por eso, cada vez que salgo a hacer la compra de víveres, “misteriosamente” terminan en mi carrito bolsas de Doritos, Cheetos y similares.

Si voy de compras con mi hija es posible que mi “otro yo” no se salga con la suya, pero si estoy solo es muy probable que mi codiciado tesoro llegue a casa conmigo y permanezca poco tiempo en mi despensa antes de desaparecer como por arte de magia.

Cada visita al supermercado se convierte en una batalla campal donde me debato entre lo que debo comer y lo que me gusta comer. Es toda una disyuntiva al más puro estilo shakesperiano: “Comer o no comer, he ahí el dilema”. Muchas veces, mi “otro yo” acaba anotándose otra victoria y yo acabo disfrutándola.

El problema se presenta al día siguiente cuando al tomarme el registro de azúcar en sangre inevitablemente aparece un registro alrededor de los temibles 300.

I am doing my part; I make an effort to try to be conscious about the peril I am placing my health in, but it becomes very difficult to resist the temptation of eating harmful foods. I eat for the pleasure of it, not because I am hungry, and thus almost every time I end up eating what I should not.

Yo pongo de mi parte; me esfuerzo y trato de tomar conciencia del riesgo de mi situación, pero resulta muy difícil contener la tentación de comer lo indebido. Yo como por gusto y no por hambre, así que casi siempre acabo comiendo lo que no debo.

But not all is lost. I still have hope to make my “other self” understand that we must not eat what is detrimental to our health and that we have a whole life to live, together, with diabetes.

Pero no todo está perdido. Aún tengo la esperanza de hacer entender a mi “otro yo” que no debemos comer lo que nos perjudica y que tenemos una vida por vivir, juntos, con diabetes.

The new Social Network “Google Plus”

owadays, social networking has become one the Internet most popular features. Sites like Facebook and Twitter have an extraordinary amount of users that continues to grow each day. Google has decided to make its second attempt at a social networking site by creating “Google Plus”. It promises to be the future of social Networking but can it really live up to that expectation?

Google Plus was recently released as an “invite only” version, in order to urge people to join but still test out the product with a small number of users. However, this also means that if you don’t have a friend with Google Plus, you would have to wait until its full public release. Even with the “invite only” restriction, Google plus has quickly grown and as of July 14, it was recorded to have 10 million users.

At first glance, Google Plus looks almost identical to Facebook, and works much like Facebook. Its layout and function are much like Facebook’s. Instead of “liking” something, you “plus one” it. Google plus sets itself apart from other sites because it has some really useful features.

One of these features is the Chat system, which has already proved itself to be better than Facebook Chat. Huddle is Google plus’s free group messaging service for phones that is quite impressive. Even more impressive than Huddle is Hangout, the video chat service. Hangout lets you

video chat with up to ten people and handles all that chaos by arranging video windows based on who’s talking, Sparks is also very cool as it works as a recommendation engine based on topics you like. So, lets say I put cooking as interest, Sparks will recommend recipes, books, and other cooking related topics.

Accessibility of Google Plus is made easy largely thanks to the black Google toolbar you see at the top of the Google’s services. Google took advantage of the fact that people use their service almost everyday and integrated Google Plus on the toolbar. The toolbar will show you if you any notifications and allow you to update your status.

Above all Google Plus shines the most because of its privacy setting and features. It allows you to separate people into “circles” and then it gives the choice of what circles can see your post, updates, photos, etc. Better yet, is that people can’t see what circle they are in, so they can never bother you. This way it’s really easy to separate people into friends, family, acquaintances and then filter what they can see.

Google Plus however is not perfect, mainly because it’s new.

Simple features that are missing may very well cause Google Plus to fail. Even though it did copy a lot of things from Facebook, Facebook is more established than Google Plus, in other words it had a head start. The probability that people will use both sites is unlikely and it will be most likely that people give one up, like what happened between MySpace and Facebook.

Google Plus is missing simple things like a calendar service that syncs with Google Plus Friends birthdays. Its missing pages for businesses, organizations, bands, etc. It doesn’t have many third party apps (like “Farmville”) that we all have come to love.

What’s especially missing is experience and user numbers. Facebook has 700 Million users, that is 70 times as much as Google Plus. People aren’t going to switch to Google Plus if they don’t have many friends using it, unless it’s drastically better. But lets face it, its not that much better than Facebook and not enough to make a difference. Google Plus needs to set itself apart from Facebook in order to succeed but at the moment it’s only a “Facebook 2.0”

La probabilidad de que la gente utilice los dos sitios es poco probable y será más probable que las personas renuncien a uno, al igual que pasó entre MySpace y Facebook.

Aún Google Plus le falta cosas tan simples; como un servicio de calendario que sincroniza con Google Plus el cumpleaños de los amigos. A sus páginas aún le falta agregar empresas, organizaciones, grupos, etc, y no tiene muchas aplicaciones de terceros (como “Farmville”) que todos han llegado a amar.

Lo que es especialmente el número que falta es la experiencia y el usuario. Facebook tiene 700 millones de usuarios, es decir 70 veces más que Google Plus.

La gente no va a cambiar a Google, además, si no tienen muchos amigos con él, a menos que sea radicalmente mejor. Pero seamos realistas, no es que sea mucho mejor que el Facebook y no lo suficiente para hacer una diferencia. Sitios como Facebook y Twitter tienen una extraordinaria cantidad de usuarios que siguen creciendo cada día. Google ha decidido hacer su segundo intento en un sitio de redes sociales mediante la creación de “Google Plus”, que promete ser el futuro de las redes sociales, pero ¿puede realmente estar a la altura con esa expectativa?

Google Plus ha sido publicado recientemente con la versión “invitar sólo”, con el fin de instar a la gente a unirse, y probar el producto con un pequeño número de usuarios.

Sin embargo, esto también significa que si usted no tiene un amigo con Google Plus, tendrá que esperar hasta su lanzamiento público en su totalidad. Apenas con la restricción de “invitar sólo a”, Google ha crecido rápidamente y el 14 de julio, ya registraba 10 millones de usuarios.

El lugar de la reunión le permite chatear con video incluido hasta con diez personas y maneja todo mediante la organización de ventanas de vídeo en función de quién está hablando.

Sparks también es un servicio muy bueno ya que funciona como un motor de recomendación basado en los temas que te gusta. Por ejemplo, digamos que pone la cocina como un tema de interés, Sparks te recomienda recetas, libros, y otros temas relacionados con la cocina.

La accesibilidad de Google Plus es fácil en gran parte gracias a la barra negra de herramientas de Google que se ve en la parte superior de los servicios de Google.

Protecting Pets from Mosquitoes

uring this time of the year, when mosquitoes start to reproduce, us humans need to protect ourselves but what about our pets?

Dogs, cats, and even horses are all at risk of disease infestation through mosquito bites. Animals that live outdoors are 98% more likely to be bitten and infected by mosquitos, not to mention the risk of flea and tick infestation.

Indoor dogs are 45% less likely to be bitten by mosquitoes. Indoor cats are 75% less likely to be bitten.

When it comes to dogs the risk of disease transmitted by mosquitoes is a very serious issue. Since dogs need to go outdoors so often it leaves them very susceptible. Heartworms and West Nile virus are the two main threats to dogs via mosquitoes. The infected mosquito implants the larvae and it then enters through the animals skin. The larvae then grow and after about three months they will migrate to the animals heart where they will grow into the adult stage. An adult heartworm can reach the length of up to 14 inches.

It only takes 6-7 months, in dogs, for the full process from bite to adult heartworm to take place. The process takes 8 months for cats.

Adult heartworms obstruct various large blood vessels leading from the heart to the lungs. Most dogs do not show any signs of infection. Some dogs may lose the appetite, lose weight, and the usual first sign is a cough.

West Nile virus is also a concern for animals coming in contact with mosquitoes. Fortunately there is a WNV vaccine for horses but dogs and cats do not have this vaccine. The treatment will usually only take a few weeks to eradicate the virus from a dog or cat. Signs of WNV are incoordination, depression, decreased appetite, difficulty walking, tremors, abnormal head posture, circling, and convulsions.

All in all it is best to use the prevention method where it is available. If the vaccine is available it is recommended and if there is a topical treatment that can be used to repel then use it. Do what you must to keep your beloved pets safe and they will repay you will health and happiness.

urante esta época del año, cuando los mosquitos empiezan a reproducirse, nosotros los humanos necesitamos para protegernos, pero ¿qué pasa con nuestras mascotas?

Perros, gatos e incluso caballos, están en riesgo de infestación de la enfermedad a través de las picaduras de mosquitos. Los animales que viven al aire libre son un 98% más propensos a ser picados por los mosquitos infectados y, por no mencionar el riesgo de pulgas y garrapatas.

Los perros que viven dentro de la casa tienen 45% menos probabilidades de ser picados por mosquitos y los gatos tiene un 75% de ser picados.

Cuando se trata a los perros el riesgo de enfermedades transmitidas por mosquitos es un tema muy serio. Dado que los perros necesitan salir a la calle tan a menudo que los hace muy susceptibles. El parásito del corazón y el virus del Nilo Occidental son las dos principales amenazas a los perros a través de los mosquitos. El mosquito infectado implanta las larvas y luego entra por la piel de los animales. Las larvas crecen y después de unos tres meses van a migrar hacia el corazón de los animales donde se convertirán en la etapa adulta. Un parásito adulto puede llegar a la longitud de hasta 14 pulgadas. Se tarda 6 a 7 meses, en los perros, para el proceso completo desde la picadura hasta que el gusano del corazón tenga lugar. El proceso en los gatos lleva 8 meses.

El parásito adulto obstruye varios vasos sanguíneos que sale del corazón a los pulmones. La mayoría de los perros no muestran ningún signo de infección. Algunos perros pueden perder el apetito, perder peso, y el primer signo habitual es la tos.

Virus del Nilo Occidental es también una preocupación por los animales entren en contacto con los mosquitos. Afortunadamente, existe una vacuna contra el virus del Nilo Occidental para los caballos, pero los perros y los gatos no tienen esa vacuna.

El tratamiento sólo toma un par de semanas para erradicar el virus de un perro o un gato. Los signos de virus del Nilo Occidental son incoordinación, depresión, disminución del apetito, dificultad para caminar, temblores, postura anormal de la cabeza, dando vueltas, y convulsiones.

Lo mejor es utilizar el método de prevención. Si la vacuna está disponible, se recomienda colocársela, y si hay un tratamiento tópico que se puede utilizar para repeler, utilícelo también. Haga lo posible por mantener a sus queridas mascotas seguras que ellas le pagarán con salud y felicidad.

Alemania Nurburgring y una incognita en referencia a la polémica de los difusores soplados. Arrancamos con las practicas libres que mostraron una fotografía similar a la que observamos en Inglaterra: Webber dominando las libres con Alonso y esta vez, Hamilton metido en los tiempos de la punta con un Vettel que no aflojaba, las diferencias desde el primero al quinto puesto serian solo milésimas de segundo, lo que hacia pensar que la clasificación estaría muy apretada.

Sin embargo la clasificación guardaría similitud con las libres del Viernes, la novedad seria el retorno de Mcglaren junto a Lewis Hamilton quien volaría para colocarse en el segundo puesto de la clasificación. En la Pole estaría Webber, el tercer puesto seria ocupado por Vettel y de cuarto estaría Alonso junto a Massa que se colocaría quinto… Los Jóvenes latinos Pastor Maldonado y Sergio Perez estarían clasificando en el decimo tercero. Pastor por delante de su compañero, Rubens Barrichello y Sergio Perez partiría desde el puesto 15 superando también a su compañero el Japonés Kamui Kobayashi. Se daría la largada muy apretada entre los cinco primeros que dejaría a Lewis Hamilton en el primer lugar tras la mala salida de Webber, un Alonso que arrebataría el tercer puesto de Vettel. Asi se mantendrían los tres primeros con un ritmo muy fuerte implantado por Hamilton que se despegaría en el primero Webber lo atacaría posteriormente reduciendo la ventaja al igual que Alonso, veríamos una lucha constante entre los tres primeros que al final dejaría a Lewis en el primer lugar seguido por Alonso y Wbber en el tercero, también observaríamos una lucha interesante entre Massa y Nico Rosberg que peleaban la quinta posición, Vettel caía al cuarto puesto de carrera mientras Hamilton, Alonso y Webber se mantenían en ese orden, todos con gomas blandas esperando la lluvia que pudiera hacerse presente en cualquier momento tanto asi que Vettel y Felipe entraron en la ultima vuelta de carrera a hacer el cambio reglamentario de gomas blandas por las intermedias. En las posiciones intermedias estarían los locales de Mercedes Nico Rosberg y Michael Sumacher que lucharían junto a otro local, Adrian Sutil de Force India que realizaría una gran carrera llegando de sexto detrás de Massa, Kamui Kobayashi y su Sauber saltarían del puesto 18 al 9 ganando puntos para su equipo el Japones realizaría una

oral city of champions: that is the sentence we love to use when we think about the important sporting achievements of its residents. Today we dedicate this edition to a young golf champion, Julie Steinbauer; she recently won the Nicklaus Jr. Classic which was held at Bears Lakes in West Palm Beach, Florida, with scores of 75 - 77= 152.

She had a 3-stroke margin of victory.

She had a second place finish at the South Florida PGA tournament held at Turnberry in Aventura and a second place finish at a Hurricane Jr. Tour Tournament held at the University of Florida’s course, as well.

Last week she went to Richmond, VA to represent the First Tee of Miami at their advance golf camp. She is one out of the fifteen golfers in the country selected.

She will be playing at The Optimist International Jr. Championship at the end of July; this tournament has an international field of golfers.

Julie Steinbauer is 16 years old and will be a Jr. this fall at Carrollton school of the Sacred Heart. She plays on the golf team there and helped them reach the State tournament last year. She was 1st team all Dade County in both 9th and 10th grade.

July is also the youngest member of a very talented family who do a lot of things in the South Florida area and they are just glad to be a part of the success of this Community and City.

Her mother, Jodi Applebaum-Steinbauer is a member of the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame as well as past President. She is also a member of the Dade County Hall of Fame and tournament Director of the Jr. Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship. Her sister, Erika Steinbauer interns with congresswomen Ileana Ros-Lehtinen when not at Boston College.

Last but not least, her father, J.R. Steimbauer is on the City of Doral’s Police & Parks for Kids foundation, and served as General Chairmen of the World Golf Championship at Doral this past year.

a ciudad de Doral es ciudad de campeones, así la clasificamos quienes escribimos sobre los valiosos logros deportivos de sus residentes. Hoy le dedicamos esta edición a una joven campeona de Golf, Julie Steinbauer, quién recientemente ganó el torneo de Golf “Nicklaus Junior Championship“ en la división de niñas (16-18) que se celebró en Bears Lakes, en West Palm Beach, Florida, el pasado 10 de julio.

Julie logró puntuaciones de 75 – 77, para un total de 152 golpes, su puntuación final le dio un margen de 3 golpes de diferencia con el segundo lugar, en términos golfísticos, algo no muy fácil de conseguir.

Julie ya había logrado sendos segundos lugares en los torneos GPA Turnberry en Aventura y Tour Huracán Jr. Torneo celebrado en la Universidad de Florida.

La semana pasada viajó a Richmond, Virginia para representar a First Tee de Miami . Ella es una de las 15 golfista seleccionadas a nivel nacional para este campamento.

A fines del mes de Julio, Julie competirá en el Optimist International Junior, campeonato que tiene un campo internacional de golf. Julie Steinbauer tiene 16 años y comenzará el 11vo grado este otoño en la escuela Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart.

L

ittle did I know that the reassignment orders I received from the US Army in the Spring of 2008 would eventually connect me to a group of like minded cycling aficionados and a weekly brotherhood known as the Doral Cycling Club which has made this assignment truly one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Though no longer the common marketing phrase used, the old Army slogan “It’s not just a job, it’s and adventure” remains forefront in my mind as I reminisce on this assignment, life in Doral and the magic of Miami.

The typical life of a career soldier, and their family, means reassignments every 3-4 years, both for the good of the force and the professional development of the Soldier. April of 2008 was no different. I was just finishing some military education and it was time to move to a new assignment. While I did not know much about Miami when I selected the assignment, I knew it was warm and that’s exactly what I was looking for as my passion for mountain biking burned hot. Essentially, I needed a climate to support my “habit”.

2008, having decided to settle in Doral based on word-of-mouth recommendations and proximity to my assignment at United States Southern Command. On my way down the Florida Turnpike, I quickly realized there was a distinct lack of mountains. This didn’t bode well for my mountain biking habit, however, as with all things, a good nights sleep provides fresh perspective. Being passionate about the singletrack, I spent the first morning visiting the local mountain bike trails. While there were no hills, there, fortunately, were a lot of great trails. Oleta, Amelia Earhardt and Markham parks would ensure the mountain bike passion continued to burn hot...or so I thought.

As with anything you are passionate about, the ‘next level’ is something you always pursue. So with mountain biking, I bought a road bike, purely to improve my fitness and work to train so I could be a better mountain bike racer. It was on one of my early Sunday morning training rides, that I came across an amazingly warm and inviting core group from the fledgling Doral Cycling Club. A novice road cyclist myself, I always had heard that ‘roadies’, as we fat-tired riders referred to our skinny-tired cohorts, were not as welcoming as the typical mountain biker. I’m happy to say my anecdotal information was mistaken.

Almost immediately, the entire group had introduced themselves and unanimously asked me to join them on their ride. I was awash in names, Edgar, Gustavo, Ralph, and so on. Struggling to remember all these new names, while simultaneously remembering where I was going in an unfamiliar city, I couldn’t help but think of how fun it was to just ride with other people in a group setting. In the matter of minutes, I’d gone from a lone rider to a group member. No one judging my equipment, nor my fitness level, let alone my inability to utter more than a few words in espanol that I remembered from high-school Spanish and a recent fling with Rosetta Stone.

For 30 plus miles, the members of this club introduced me to the backroads of Doral, to the Doral Cycling Club and more importantly, accepted me into their extended family as a fellow rider and friend. It was this initial introduction, and the unequivocal acceptance into the peloton, that I truly started to experience Doral, the beauty of the Latin culture and the universal appeal of cycling on a different level.

Unfortunately, pressed for time, I had to leave the group that day and head for home to meet prior commitments.

The only problem, I didn’t exactly know where I was yet.

To my amazement, Gustavo broke from the group and accompanied me pointing me back to the few roads I was familiar with and therefore firmly cementing the commitment to this cycling club and the genuine kindness and hospitality of the culture here. After getting the specifics of weekly rides, I could hardly contain my excitement as the weekends came closer. I eagerly anticipated each Saturday morning ride with the group, and before long, I had to really think hard about the last time I’d pulled out the mountain bike. “Wait a minute” I told myself, “where did that mountain bike passion go?”

My mountain bike passion didn’t go anywhere; it was just overshadowed by a new passion. As my participation in the group continued, and the club membership grew, friendships were expanded. Not only did we get together for rides, but for social events as well. A family of cyclists is what we’d become. The weekend discussions extended past the latest cycling gear to family life and career, something I never expected as we experienced ups and downs with friends as they ‘cycled’ through life’s events.

This family nature is what keeps me coming back, for the Doral Cycling Club is more than group of riders of diverse ethnic origins; it is a representation of all that is good with Doral, the city of Miami, and the cycling culture.

As my time winds down on this assignment and I start looking forward to my next move, back to my hometown of Colorado Springs, where there is real mountains and mountain biking reigns supreme, I struggle to find a way to export the Doral Cycling Club with me. Short of taking the guys with me, all I can do is take what this extraordinary group has started and replicate that in the Rocky Mountains. A group of like-minded riders who are warm, inviting and cycle like a family. Maybe I’ll call it Doral Cycling Club – West! Regardless, my adventure here is not yet done.

As the group grows, so does the family. Come join us one weekend and experience this environment for yourself. I guarantee you’ll want to come back!

l equipo elite de tenis del Doral, campeón de Miami, tiene mucho de que orgullecerse últimamente, sumado a los éxitos deportivos se produce una acontecimiento muy especial, una futura campeona pide incorporarse al equipo... en unos 20 años....

Dentro de esta historia, la carismática Catterina Cuneo se convierte en una protagonista singular: dotada de un talento excepcional para el tenis y gran estado físico, Catte es una de las mejores jugadoras del equipo y también entrenadora. Como buena líder siempre esta detrás de su equipo para que rindan lo máximo posible y consigan los resultados esperados, por eso cuando una vez dijo “hay que sacar físico”, todas se pusieron en forma, luego acotó “hay que practicar mas” y todas incrementaron los entrenamientos, continuó diciendo: “Hay que ganar y campeonar” y todas comenzaron a ganar y se logro el campeonato. Eso si, cuando dijo “hay que ser abuelas” ...pues todas se revelaron... !! Que tal sorpresa, Julio Patiño, el hijo mayor de Catterina iba a ser padre y después de mucho conversar se logró el consenso: será el equipo de tenis con la abuela y las tías abuelas mas jóvenes e interesantes de la ciudad. Y manos a la obra, luego de escoger los presentes con mucho cariño y completar preparativos (entre eso, cambio de status en Facebook), celebramos el Baby Shower. En casa de la familia Abello, en Doral Isles, se ofreció el precioso acontecimiento. Pero como aquí todo es distinto, en vez de los juegos tradicionales, todos los invitados se sentaron a ver la Copa América, eran 60 colombianos que arengaban en contraste con 4 peruanas (una de ellas Caterina, que grito como loca los goles). El resultado no afectó para nada la camaradería y el cariño hacia la futura bebe fue lo único importante. Los regalos abundaron, el buen gusto fue evidente pero lo mas lindo es el amor que cada oferente entregaba , Luciana tiene mucha suerte , son muchos los que desde ya la adoran y se comprometen a cuidarla y cambiarle los pañales (con documento firmado, si señor).

Felicidades para Julio y Catalina, y al equipo de tenis, bienvenido a la “tercera edad” !

l exilio venezolano conmemoró el natalicio de Simón Bolívar, el pasado 24 de julio, con un acto en el que se recordaron pensamientos y obras de uno de los hombres que marcó la historia con la independencia de varios países latinoamericanos.

A la par, la organización de Venezolanos Perseguidos Políticos en el Exilio (VEPPEX),y durante el evento del día domingo se hizo una donación del busto de Simón Bolívar a la escuela Ronald Reagan High School ubicada en Doral, en reconocimiento a uno de los centros educativos que cuenta con un gran número de estudiantes latinos… Además, se anuncio que en 50 días, la comunidad venezolana contará con una Plaza Bolívar, donde podrán admirar una estatua de tamaño natural del ilustre héroe de Venezuela en la sede de El Arepazo 2, ubicado entre la 79 avenida y la 36 calle .

“La intención de la colocación de la estatua en Doral es lograr un punto de concentración de todos los venezolanos y quien mejor que Simón Bolívar para integrar y unir a todos los venezolanos”, dijo José Colina, presidente de VEPPEX.
