SeniorSeminar
AllseniorsareencouragedtotakeSeniorSeminar,acoursewherestudentscultivatetheskillsandknowledge necessarytoconductindependentresearchandinquiryinordertoproduceanddefendtheirscholarlywork. Inthiscourse,studentsareexposedtocollegelevelresearchmethodsincludingquantitativeandqualitative researchdesign.Studentswillapply researchskills,synthesizeinformationfrommultipleperspectives, analyzeinformationwithaccuracyandprecision,andcraft,communicateanddefendevidence-based argumentswhileexploringrelevanttopicsthatappealtotheirinterestsandcuriosity.Theywillhavean external“conversationpartner/advisor”whowillhelpthemtore neandsteertheirindependentresearch project.Studentswhomakenotablecontributionstothescholarlyconsensusontheirtopicwillbeinvited tosubmittheir nalpaperstotheInternationalJournalofHighSchoolResearchforpeerreview Onehalf credit(05)willbeawardedatthediscretionofthefacultymentorandagradeofPass/Failwillbeissuedfor theprojectandwillnotbecalculatedintotheGPA.TheSeniorSeminarProjectdoesnotful llany departmentalrequirement.

AcademyoftheSacredHeart,Bloom eldHillsiscommittedtohelpingstudentsgrowintocollaborative problemsolversandtransformationalleaders IntheUpperSchool,noprogramillustratesthiscommitment betterthanProjectTerm.Startedin1974,ProjectTermuniquelyintegratestheGoalsandCriteriaofaSacred HeartEducationbyprovidinganopportunityforstudentstoexpandtheirunderstandingoftheworldaround themandtheirplaceinit.
Eachyear,allstudentsgrades9-12participateinasevenmonthprograminwhichtheyleveragedesignthinking toexplorecomplexglobalissuesinpartnershipwithdiverseorganizationsandexpertsaroundtheworld,from PontiactoPeru.Thehighlightoftheprogramisaweeklong eldstudyduringwhichstudentstravelwith UpperSchoolfacultytotheirpartnersiteforanimmersivelearningexperiencethatinvitesthemtostepoutside oftheircomfortzone,explorenewculturesandcommunities,andworkshouldertoshoulderwithnon-pro t organizationsandexpertscommittedtoaddressingsuchissuesasclimatechange,homelessness,education equity,andforcedmigration.Whenstudentsreturntoschoolaftertheir eldstudy,theyhavetheopportunity toapplyandsharetheirlearningwiththeSacredHeartcommunity.
