9. Sport Spotlight on Sport On Fridays at 13.00 the department will host a live talk and Q&A with a range of professional players, coaches and those working in professional sport. These will be sent out to all via email and also posted on the Luckley Online Sport Teams. Four exciting speakers have been secured so far, with our first hugely successful talk on 8 January by Connor Hall On 15 January Creon Raftopoulos talked to us about his basketball career and his journey as a professional coach in the BBL (British Basketball League). On 22 January, former Hockey Olympian John Shaw shared his hockey journey from competing in two Olympic Games (1992, 1996) and winning a silver medal at the 1986 Hockey World Cup, to his role as head coach at various National League Clubs across the country On 29 January, we will hear from England U20 Tri-Nations winning Captain, Phoebe Murray. Phoebe will be telling us about how she made it to international representation, how she found her feet in a male dominated sport and how she manages to balance her training whilst studying to become a doctor. This week, Olympic Rower Greg Searle talked about his journey from winning Olympic gold aged 20, to returning to elite sport aged 40 to compete in his home games and win Olympic bronze aged 40 at the London 2012 games. (5 Feb update) Luckley Sport Loan As a department and school, we are loaning some of our sports equipment to pupils that may not have it at home – the list of these items can be found below. The role of this scheme is to ensure that no sporting opportunities are limited to our pupils, especially some of our extended day sessions. • Basketballs • Tennis Balls • Skipping ropes • Footballs • Rugby Balls • SAQ Ladders • Netballs • Cones • Kettlebell/Medicine Balls • Hockey Balls and Sticks If you need to loan any sporting equipment, please email Mr Humphrey on Matthew.Humphrey@luckleyhouseschool.org to organise a day and pick-up time. ISA Limitless Skills Series Information regarding this ISA series has been sent out to parents and includes links of how to join the app, this is a great opportunity to release your inner competitive side as you can compete in challenges against the rest of the ISA schools in the UK. (29 January 2021 update) Timetabled Fitness Sessions During lessons, pupils will have access to a wide range of classes, ranging from high/low intensity HIIT, strength, Pilates, Zumba, functional core training, power and sport-specific. There will also be lessons where pupils will have autonomy over what they do, with access to sport-specific challenge cards and other resources. This timetable will be given to pupils via their MS Team. Year 7 and 8 also have live ‘Healthy Me’ sessions and Year 9 will have ‘Introduction to GCSE PE’ sessions.
