2. Online Learning Guidance for Pupils

Online Lessons

Luckley Online will follow the same timetable as Luckley Onsite. This means there is no change to when lessons are, so follow your usual timetable. Lessons will be about10 minutes shorter to allow you some breathing space, moments away from the screen and a chance to log into your next lesson in good time. Your lessons will be live on Teams, but this doesn’t mean you will be staring at the screen for 50 minutes every lesson. You might find that your teachers will take a register at the start of the lesson and greet you – please have your cameras on, but mics off! You may then find, as in the onsite lessons, that your teacher spends approximately 20 minutes or so explaining work to you and then you may be given a task to do. This task may be on screen, in your books, on paper or in groups - even if you are ‘sent off’ to complete a task your teacher will remain in the lesson with you, waiting to help you and take your questions. They will always bring you all back together again at the end of a lesson to check that all is well, that you understand and also to give you your prep as appropriate. You must please stay in your lessons until you are dismissed.

Every Luckley Online lesson will be slightly different, just as lessons would be with Luckley Onsite. Any live streamed, recorded or pre-recorded lessons will be posted on Microsoft Teams on the conversation/posts page. If you choose to handwrite your work, you can scan this in and upload it by using Microsoft Lens or by taking a photograph of your work. As long as you are fit and healthy you will be expected to attend all live lessons. If you are unwell or absent for some reason, your parents must please report your absence to reception. Registers will be taken and Heads of Year will follow up absences by contacting home. If circumstances do not allow you to watch a live lesson, then please do watch the recording which will be posted on Teams. This will also enable you to review it again later as revision if you wish. Lesson times are noted below:

Staff Absence

If your teacher is absent for any reason, they will set suitable work via your class Team. They may be able to record lessons for you to watch if appropriate. You will be given clear instructions at the start of the lesson.

Prep

Prep for Years 11 – 13 will continue as normal. A new homework timetable for Year 10 with somewhat reduced prep will be set. Core subjects will continue to set homework for all pupils in Years 7 – 9. In addition, pupils in Year 9 will also have the option to complete projects provided by non-core subjects. Pupils in Years 7 & 8 have the option to complete the homework projects which have already been uploaded onto the relevant Homework OneNote.

Public Examinations

As it stands most, but not all, public exams have been cancelled. iGCSE exams are still going ahead at the moment, but things are changing every day and OFQUAL currently has a consultation out so we know we will have more guidance in the coming weeks. The key message is to keep focussed and work hard so that you will be able to perform at your best when you are tested when we are permitted back to site. As soon as we have more information on how you will be finally assessed we will let you know. I know this is a frustrating time, but we will do all we can to support you. We are in this together! Mr Vallance will run a weekly academic update for all exam groups on a Tuesday from 16:00. Mr Vallance will send details to pupils in Year 11 and 13.

Individual Lessons and Tutorials

If you have individual 1:1 lessons your teachers will be in touch with your parents for any music and drama lessons or directly with you for any study or learning skills.

A pupil guide to Luckley Online

1. Make sure you stick to all school policies and pay special attention to the Acceptable Use and e-Safety

Policies. Copies can be found here: School Policies. 2. Excellent behaviour is expected at all times. If your behaviour is inappropriate, please expect staff to respond as they would in onsite lessons. Your teacher may mute your audio or remove you from the online lesson if necessary. 3. Select a sensible, neutral location for your lesson. Please try and avoid your bedroom for lessons, although we recognise this may be difficult for some pupils. 4. Please select an area with as few distractions as possible and blur your background where needed. 5. You may wear suitable home clothes, these must be appropriate and as you would wear for a home clothes day at school. 6. When joining a live online lesson, please have your microphone off (to limit feedback) but your video on so that your teacher can see you and gauge your understanding and engagement. If issues with broadband make this difficult, just let your teacher know, but at least try to get your video working when your teacher is talking directly to you or when you are talking to your teacher and peers in group work. 7. At the start of the lesson, a register will be taken as usual. If you are watching a recording, make sure you register your attendance by commenting in the thread where the lesson is posted. 8. Please join your lesson on time. If you are watching pre-recorded lessons, ensure that you have watched all relevant lessons for the day so that you do not get behind. 9. If you want to ask question after the lesson, you can email your teacher or post a question in the same thread as the lesson recording. This will make it easier for your teacher to answer you and for your class to help as appropriate. 10. All written and verbal comments in online lessons must at all times be appropriate to the formality of your lesson. You should communicate with each other and with the teacher as is normally suitable in a lesson at School. Please do not overuse emojis and irrelevant images in your chats. 11. Please do not talk over each other when asking questions. If you post a question in the thread/chat, a teacher will answer you or you can use the ‘raise your hand’ facility on Teams. 12. You must not make your own recording in any lessons, tutor times or meetings. All relevant lessons will automatically be recorded and posted in the Team. Do not take photos or videos of any staff or pupils, this will be viewed as a serious breach of conduct. 13. Do not use your mobile during lessons, the same rules apply at home as at school. 14. These guidelines are supported by all normal School Policies including the Safeguarding and Child

Protection Policy.
