On Fridays at 13.00 the department will host a live talk and Q&A with a range of professional players, coaches and those working in professional sport. These will be sent out to all via email and also posted on the Luckley Online Sport Teams. Four exciting speakers have been secured so far, with our first hugely successful talk on 8 January by Connor Hall On 15 January Creon Raftopoulos talked to us about his basketball career and his journey as a professional coach in the BBL (British Basketball League). On 22 January, former Hockey Olympian John Shaw shared his hockey journey from competing in two Olympic Games (1992, 1996) and winning a silver medal at the 1986 Hockey World Cup, to his role as head coach at various National League Clubs across the country On 29 January, we will hear from England U20 Tri-Nations winning Captain, Phoebe Murray. Phoebe will be telling us about how she made it to international representation, how she found her feet in a male dominated sport and how she manages to balance her training whilst studying to become a doctor.

This week, Olympic Rower Greg Searle talked about his journey from winning Olympic gold aged 20, to returning to elite sport aged 40 to compete in his home games and win Olympic bronze aged 40 at the London 2012 games. (5 Feb update)

Luckley Sport Loan

As a department and school, we are loaning some of our sports equipment to pupils that may not have it at home – the list of these items can be found below. The role of this scheme is to ensure that no sporting opportunities are limited to our pupils, especially some of our extended day sessions.

• Basketballs • Footballs • Netballs • Hockey Balls and Sticks • Tennis Balls • Rugby Balls • Cones • Skipping ropes • SAQ Ladders • Kettlebell/Medicine Balls

If you need to loan any sporting equipment, please email Mr Humphrey on Matthew.Humphrey@luckleyhouseschool.org to organise a day and pick-up time.

Timetabled Fitness Sessions

During lessons, pupils will have access to a wide range of classes, ranging from high/low intensity HIIT, strength, Pilates, Zumba, functional core training, power and sport-specific. There will also be lessons where pupils will have autonomy over what they do, with access to sport-specific challenge cards and other resources. This timetable will be given to pupils via their MS Team. Year 7 and 8 also have live ‘Healthy Me’ sessions and Year 9 will have ‘Introduction to GCSE PE’ sessions.

Children’s Mental Health Week - is next week (w/c 1 February) and the theme is ‘express yourself’. Talking about mental health and expressing our feelings can be difficult, no matter our age. As we are currently in our third lockdown, it’s more important than ever to share how we’re feeling with others. We are encouraging pupils, staff and parents next week to send videos of themselves ‘expressing themselves’ doing something creative. From things like drawing, painting, playing an instrument, as well as of course sport and physical activity. We want to see what you are all up too. Watch the promo video posted on Monday to see what the PE department have been up to. (29 January 2021 update)

Weekly Remote Challenges

Watch this space for a series for all the family to get involved with. Each week, we will upload a video to our Twitter (@LuckleySport) and Instagram (@luckleyhousesport), as well as each year group Microsoft Team. Pupils, parents and staff can all get involved and can gain points for their Houses, which will go towards the sports day totals (entries via email or MS Forms). There will be prizes for any standout achievements or commitment!

Athlete Development Programme (ADP)

Our ADP will continue to run for those selected – these details will be emailed out and communicated to all pupils. For the juniors, they will have group physical literacy sessions and access to a bank of exercise videos, based around their ‘At home exercise plan’ and our seniors will have 1-2-1 and group sessions, run both in lessons and as a lunch time/extended day, which will be bespoke to them and their sport. Seniors will also have access to the bank of exercise videos with their own programme to be logged on their OneNote. We will also have live sessions on diet and managing workload this half term via Teams.
