5. Activities and the Extended Day

The Health Centre

The Health Centre will be open every afternoon. Our highly qualified nursing team will be available to discuss any queries or concerns, be these Covid related or not. If you have any medical concerns please contact the school office or the nurses via Louise.Doel@luckleyhouseschool.org. Lateral Flow Testing continues on Mondays and Thursdays for staff and pupils on site e.g. children of key workers. Despite lockdown, we are still able to host vaccination updates for selected girls in Year 10, the Health Centre will contact pupils and parents directly. The Health Centre will also create a series of health-related videos including topics such as:

Mrs Gilding-Brant will continue to have an overview of the pastoral needs of all pupils at Luckley and is in regular contact with all HOY, the Health Centre and School Counsellor.

Extended day

We have a full programme of activities running for Week A and/or Week B. Extended day will run from 16.20 – 17.00. There may be a few activities that go past this allocated time and this information will be detailed in the Extended Day Brochure. If you wish to join an activity, please email that member of staff and they shall add you to their extended day team.

You can attend as many clubs as you like; this is a great time to try things that you have not done before; you never know, you might really enjoy it. We encourage as many of you as possible to join in and engage within such a diversity of clubs and clinics. Links to these will be accessible through Extended Day Brochure Some clubs include:

• Year 7 & 8 challenge • Walk in the woods • Various academic clinics • Fun fashion folding • Paint by numbers • Bible and

Cake • Music • Drama • Art • Sport… and much more.

In addition to the extended day there are a number of activities, including visiting speakers. Updates will be sent via email and via this brochure. A sample of activities, lectures and competitions can be found below.

Parents’ Prayer Group and Thursday Morning Reflection

The next two dates for the Parents’ Prayer Group are 5 February and 5 March. The group meet via Zoom, from 09.00- 09.15 for a catch up, prayer from 09.15-09.45. Anyone interested can email Mrs Salome Laschinger salome_laschinger@me.com to join the group. A copy of the Prayer Diary can be accessed here: Prayer-Diary-Spring-2021 On Thursday mornings we run Staff Reflection and during lockdown we would like to invite parents to join us for this. Mr Norman Patterson (Licenced Lay Minister in the Church of England) runs the group and will send an appropriate Zoom link to any interested parents. The reflection is liturgical and you may choose to participate while muted, you will not be asked to contribute unless you wish to. Bible and Cake

Bible and Cake is open to all pupils. Please join us as we explore the word of God and how we can implement it in our lives, over lots of delicious cake! Email Miss Vallance for more info on how to join.

Reading

(29 January 2021 update) Galloway House is in the lead!

The Library Team continues to host our Termly Book Review competition. Pupils are encouraged to record a review of the book they have most recently read to win points for their Houses and a weekly prize for the best review from the Head. The Luckley Library Team also hosts recommended reading lists. You may also wish to listen to audiobooks and review these. The English Department encourage you to consider these competitions Writing Competitions which will be discussed with you in class, as well as the ISA Essay Competition

In addition, Oak National Academy has teamed up with the National Literacy Trust to offer a free Virtual School Library. Each week a different author will provide free online books, an exclusive video as well as their top three recommended reads. This week is Jacqueline Wilson introducing Tracey Beaker.

Wokingham Library

As well as a click and collect service, Wokingham Library also offers you a chance to borrow a range of e-books, e-audio, newspapers and magazines completely free of charge if you are a library member. See their website for details.
