RE ADER’S RIDES Readers Rides- Ron Midland, MI 1948 Indian Chief- 74 cubic inch (1200cc) 3 speed transmission. This was a 3 year restoration project. I was the fourth owner, which were all from Michigan. I did most of the mechanical work myself. The paint was done by Denny Getgood. I’m 61 yrs old and have been retired now for 5 years, after 33 yrs of employment. I really enjoy tinkering with bikes. One picture is what the Indian looked like when I purchased it. It is a totally different ride than the newer bikes. It has a left foot clutch, right hand shift, left hand throttle and a right hand spark advance. There are a lot of things going on just to get down the road…after you kick started it!
