ARCHITECTURE

lutheran high northeast, classroom & shop additions phase V | norfolk, ne

Davis Design has a long-standing relationship with Lutheran High Northeast, beginning with the first phase and design of their new school that opened in 1999. The second phase was completed in January 2001, Phase III was dedicated in April 2005 and Phase IV was completed in 2011. Then, in 2022 Lutheran High contacted Davis Design to begin the design of Phase V - 12,875sq. ft. of additions for new science and agriculture classrooms, as well as a vocational shop.

The science room is divided into two areas, a classroom setting and a lab setting. The classroom features a typical desk layout for students and a demonstration lab desk for the instructor. The lab area features seven modern lab stations equipped with gas, electrical, and water hookups. There are several counters with cabinets for the average room storage needs. The science room has an adjacent storage room for ample supplies as well as a beaker/glassware cleaning station.

Over at the northeast corner of the building is a new shop and accompanying vocational agriculture classroom. The shop includes a woodworking area, metals area, six welding booths, soils room for agricultural studies, an animal room, as well as building work stations. The shop also has a separate tools rooms to keep all portable equipment secure and it features a 16’x20’ overhead door to allow for large pieces of farm equipment and semi cabs to fit for class demonstration. The work area is equipped with overhead electrical & air reels, as well as a dust collection system. The accompanying vocational agriculture classroom provides space for a more typical classroom learning environment as an accessory to the shop components.

These additions help expand existing school programs, support the development of new subjects, and broaden learning opportunities for all students.

“Davis Design helped make this building addition seamless by collaborating with the building committee and contractors to create a space that is functional and practical while being good stewards of our financial resources. Our students and teachers are thrilled with the completed project!”

north platte vehicle maintenance facility, nebraska army national guard | lincoln, ne

Before 2022, North Platte-based Nebraska Army National Guard’s 1075th Transportation Company was based out of a facility built in 1955 when North Platte soldiers were a tactical unit. Now they are a transportation company needing room to care for large equipment and the existing 7,000 sq. ft. facility was too small. Working closely with the Nebraska Army National Guard, Davis Design created a facility that not only gave them more space with better proximity to I-80, but also allows national guard vehicles, including a full-length tractor-trailer to be serviced and maintained in one of the interior work bays.

This facility was constructed on a 40 acre site adjacent to the North Platte Regional Airport. The 24,000 sq. ft. facility was constructed with a load bearing insulated precast exterior shell with precast interior elements and an insulated metal panel roof designed around a metal building frame. The one story facility includes a mezzanine and the following support spaces: four work bays for vehicle maintenance, two warm-up bays and an enclosed heated wash bay that is accessible 24 hours a day. The work bays are supplied with local, on-demand oil, antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, and air for use during vehicle maintenance. Additionally, the area benefits from natural light via clerestory windows over the garage doors, complemented by LED lighting and light interior finishes, enhancing the brightness of the workspaces. In total, the facility supports 60 over-the-road 18-wheel trucks, 120 trailers and multiple cargo trucks and Humvees.

The administrative area includes offices, classroom/breakroom area, fitness room, laundry room, supply and various types of storage rooms adjacent to the work bays to support vehicle maintenance workers. Enhancements to the site include new highway access, roads, a controlled vehicular entrance for military equipment parking within fenced vehicle storage areas, pedestrian parking and easily maintainable landscaping in pedestrian area, including native grasses around the facility.

In addition to housing the vehicle repair support, the facility is also available to provide support to State functions such as disaster relief and policing actions in case of civil disturbances.

holmes lake family medicine & internal medicine | lincoln, ne

Holmes Lake Family Medicine & Internal Medicine, part of the Bryan Physician Network, chose Davis Design in 2022 to renovate a Lincoln building, transforming it into a state-of-the-art medical clinic. Originating as Valentino’s Ristorante in October 1974, the location evolved with a pizza buffet in the late 1970s and transitioned into the Grand Italian Buffet in 2002, becoming a fixture on Lincoln’s eastside.

The renovation spans 12,392 sq. ft., housing 24 exam rooms designed around a POD concept, similar to the successful model implemented at Southeast Lincoln Family Medicine. PODs, serving as behind-the-scenes areas for collaboration among nurses, clinicians, and providers, ensure a seamless and exceptional standard of care. In addition to exam rooms, the clinic integrated a procedure room, advanced lab facilities, and x-ray services.

Simultaneously, the exterior received a contemporary makeover, featuring updated color schemes, incorporation of wood elements, and the installation of modern lighting, providing a refreshed and inviting entrance.

These changes, coupled with innovative design principles and costeffective management, have significantly enhanced the clinic’s healthcare services while fostering a welcoming environment for patients.

“Davis Design has been an amazing partner. They were able take feedback from our care team and apply imagination to transform an iconic building in Lincoln into a healing environment that allows us to care for our neighbors in an efficient way.”
