A Letter from the President Douglas Day We are looking forward to seeing the first signs of Spring at the Club and the most exciting thing of all is the increase of all the golf and tennis activities at the Club. Our property is beginning to turn green and soon our flowers will be blooming. We are looking forward to continue our strategic plan for projects that we hope will become a reality later this year. It is an exciting time for us at DAC. As I write this newsletter article, the conclusion of my term as President of Dallas Athletic Club nears.

It has been a true honor to serve as President of DAC for the past two years and to serve during our Centennial Year. I sincerely thank you all for this tremendous privilege. More specifically, I want to thank our Board of Directors for their support, commitment of time, and expertise in guiding DAC in a strategic direction. Many thanks also go to the professional DAC staff and their aim for excellence.

I want to thank each of you, our members, for your support and unwavering commitment to DAC and our staff. Last and certainly not least, I want to thank Ron Baker, our Treasurer, as he rotates off of the Board of Directors. He has served our Club faithfully with first class professionalism. As you see him

around the Club, please extend your appreciation for his service.

Our Board election ballot has been emailed to our voting members. We appreciate every voting member who takes the time to participate in our important election process. The results of the election will be announced at our 2020 Annual Meeting on March 11, 2020. At this meeting, we will provide you with a report of our Committees and their many accomplishments during the past year and their future plans.

As spring and summer advance, please read our e-blasts, website and newsletters in order to be up-to-date on the exciting events we have planned for your involvement. A final note, please join us at the Annual Meeting of the membership on March 11, 2020 at 5:30pm. We will provide an administrative report of our significant accomplishments during the past year as well as announce our Board of Directors election results. We hope to see you there!

Course Conditions This year we have experienced a wetter than normal winter. Our courses and driving range have performed very well despite the amount of rain we have had.

Unfortunately, we have had to close the Driving Range several times because of the extreme wetness. It is our goal to protect the integrity of our courses as well as the Driving Range during these times because of damage that is incurred from traffic and ball plugging. When there is a change in operations, or a communication to be broadcasted, it will be sent by email through our Fore Tees reservation system so look for an email that is a little different than our normal email. We always want to keep you informed.

This winter the crew has been removing numerous trees. There were many different factors used

in selecting which trees should be removed and the largest factor was that many trees were placed too close together when they were planted. Additionally, several trees were severely damaged last summer during the storms that destroyed many trees across the metroplex. The project has been well received with most of the negative comments pertaining to the trees that were removed due to storm damage. As part of this project, we will be planting several thousand feet of grass this spring in areas where trees have been removed, as well as evaluating areas that may need trees replaced due to the storm damage.

Applications that are received during March and April will deliver a target start date just in time for late spring/early summer, a perfect time to enjoy all the Summer Fun to come! STRETCHING SESSIONS New program available! If you have any nagging injuries, unusual isolated pain or just general tightness, set up a time to meet with a DAC Fitness Professional. Members will learn what type of stretches are best for them and how to perform them correctly.

Sessions are 30 minutes in length.

The WTA events are always fun and always FULL!! Your DAC Women’s Tennis Association is growing and the events keep getting better and better. Come be a part of this amazing organization and have fun at these great events. Here is a list of what is planned for the year:

The MTA is very excited about the 2020 schedule of events. Here is a list of the MTA for the year:

• Child/Parent Tennis Day, May 25: kids and parents enjoy a fun morning of drills and games. After the morning of tennis all players walk over to enjoy the clubs Memorial Day celebration!

Member-Member, French Open Apr. 24: members pick their own partner. All teams are flighted by level.

Bingo Night, US Open Aug. 26: fun social night of bingo.

Sometimes paired with the WGA. No tennis at this event.

Rally for the Cure, Oct. 30: fun morning of tennis for a great cause.

Member-Guest Wimbeldon, Nov. 6: WTA’s biggest event of the year. 40 teams play and typically there is a wait list of 10 teams.

WTA/TCD Holiday Luncheon and Awards, Nov. 19: luncheon to celebrate the holiday season and give awards for the ending TCD season.

Annual Luncheon, Australian Open Jan. 20, 2021: nice luncheon to honor the outgoing board and announce the in-coming board.

Sneaks-Cleats, May 16: competition that brings the best of both of DAC’s greatest assets: Tennis and Golf! Points are earned in tennis and golf with the winner having the highest total score. Fun for all players! This is a member/ guest event!

Davis Cup, June 6-8: played with the WTA. Players are placed into teams and given a country name. Dinner party on Friday to determine the teams and then tennis all day Saturday to determine the winning team! Space is limited in this event.

Member-Guest, Nov. 7: members invite a friend, coworker, or a ringer they may know to a fun afternoon of competitive tennis. Beers in the 19th hole for after tennis where we will watch some football.

Christmas Toy Drive Mixed Doubles Tournament, Dec. 6: fun mixed doubles tournament for a great cause. Small entry fee with a toy donation to enjoy this great event.

• Frying Pan Mixer, June 26: members challenge the pros while the pros play with frying pans! Fun to play, fun to watch!

• Pro-Am, Sept. 25-27: great weekend of competitive tennis with members paired with pros from around the area. Partner pairing party on Friday night with tennis all day Saturday and Sunday.

• Saturday Afternoon Pickleball!: every Saturday afternoon from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. This will be a learn and play with pros instructing and playing.

Club Championships: Competitive tournament to crown the champions at all levels! We will be having the following Club Championships:

• March 28-29 - Men’s and Women’s Doubles • April 18-19 - Men’s and Women’s Singles • May 9-10 - Mixed Doubles
