Fellow members,
As we head into the holiday season, there is much to look forward to at DAC.
On November 18, we will welcome our new General Manager, Stephen Burkhart. With a collaborative leadership style, strong communication skills, and a proven track record leading large-scale, future-focused projects, we are confident Stephen will expertly guide us through the next exciting chapter at Dallas Athletic Club. Please join us in warmly welcoming Stephen, his wife Ellen, and their son Porter to our DAC family.
Thanks to a significant investment of approximately $15 million over the past four years, the Club is in a strong position for the future. Both courses have been updated, and the 19th Hole renovation is on track to complete the current phase of clubhouse enhancements early next year. Naturally, the question becomes: What’s next? And just as importantly: How do we communicate that vision — and bring members along on the journey?
To that end, beginning in January, we will launch a comprehensive asset evaluation in partnership with an external consulting
firm. This process will serve as the foundation for a refreshed strategic plan that outlines both short and long-term goals for the Club.
Member input will be central to this effort. Through surveys and direct engagement, we aim to better understand your priorities, our fiscal capabilities, and the areas of greatest opportunity. Meaningful member engagement is essential to the future of our Club. The Board of Directors believes that for any strategic plan to be successful, it must be built not only on thoughtful planning and leadership, but also on the insights, support, and enthusiasm of our members.
As always, the staff and management team are here to serve you — especially during this most wonderful time of the year! Whether you're enjoying Thanksgiving dinner prepared by our culinary team, decorating gingerbread houses, or sharing your wish list with Santa, we are grateful that DAC is where you choose to spend your time with friends and family.
I wish you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season.
See you at the Club

A MESSAGE FROM STEPHEN BURKHART
Dear DAC Members,
I am truly honored and grateful to have been selected as the next GM/COO of such an exceptional Club. DAC already holds a special place in my heart, and I could not be more excited to begin this journey alongside a talented, passionate team and a vibrant, engaged membership.
As some of you may know, I spent over two decades in the Lone Star State, beginning my career at several clubs in the Austin area before taking on leadership roles outside of Texas, and ultimately returning to serve as GM at Corpus Christi Country Club. It’s with great pride—and a deep sense of coming home—that my family and I return to Texas to join the DAC community.
I look forward to meeting each of you, hearing your stories, and working together to build upon the strong foundation already in place. Together, I’m confident we can continue to elevate DAC as one of the premier clubs in the country.
Here’s to an exciting new chapter—see you around the Club soon!
Warm regards,
Stephen Burkhart

AS 2025 WINDS DOWN, WE CELEBRATE OUR GROWING DAC FAMILY
As we move into the final stretch of 2025 and look ahead to a festive season filled with club events and cherished holiday traditions, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on what makes our Dallas Athletic Club membership so meaningful—the vibrant, welcoming community we continue to build together.
Throughout the year, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming new members in our newsletters. These fresh faces bring new energy, enthusiasm, and perspectives to our club family. Whether you're enjoying time on the course, rallying on the courts, relaxing poolside, or savoring a quiet dinner in the clubhouse, we’re grateful you’ve chosen DAC as your home away from home.
Our membership is wonderfully diverse in age and is complemented by strong representation across both younger and older age brackets. This multi-generational mix is part of what makes DAC so unique—from longtime members who’ve helped shape the Club’s legacy to young families just beginning to create their own DAC traditions.
One of the most exciting signs of growth this year has been among our youngest members! The number of children at DAC continues to rise, led by the energetic 6–9 age group, closely followed by those aged 10–13. Future Club Champions and lifelong friendships are clearly in the making.
From golf swings to pool splashes to snack shack sprints, our youngest members are embracing every corner of the Club.
Our membership continues to span the DFW metroplex. While Lake Highlands and Lakewood remain our two most represented neighborhoods, local DAC members come from all across DFW. From the heart of Dallas to the outer suburbs, members across the metroplex continue to choose DAC as their club of choice—bringing together familiar faces from every corner of the city.
Thank you for being a part of what makes Dallas Athletic Club such a special place. Your involvement, support, and community spirit are what keep DAC thriving. Here’s to finishing 2025 strong and heading into 2026 with energy, tradition, and plenty of reasons to celebrate!
Cheers,
Cari WheatleyMembership Director cwheatley@dacstaff.org
THE SEASON OF GIVING
2025 HOLIDAY MEMBER SOCIAL
DAC'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE RETURNS
Dallas Athletic Club is once again partnering with SharingLife Outreach to bring joy and hope to families in need through our Annual Member Holiday Social & Toy Drive.
Each year, our members’ generosity makes an incredible impact. Last year’s record-breaking collection of 36 bikes and more than 900 pounds of toys helped brighten the holidays for over 400 families and 1,000 children across Mesquite, Garland, Kaufman, and East Dallas.
Sharing Life’s Annual Christmas Faire, taking place on December 17 & 18, is one of the organization’s most cherished traditions.
During this two-day event, Sharing Life partners with WFAA Santa’s Helpers, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Santa Cops, and other generous donors to create a Christmas Shop for parents to personally select gifts for their children. Families also receive toys, blankets, hoodies, stuffed animals, stockings, and stocking stuffers—everything needed to make their holiday bright. In addition to toys for children, families can also choose from board games and activities that bring entertainment and togetherness to the entire family.
• Family Board Games
• Toys for ages 0–12
"Dallas Athletic Club members’ generosity made a remarkable impact on over 400 families and 1,000 children..."
• Bikes
• Toddler ride-on toys
• Scooters
• Tricycles
As we gather for the Holiday Member Social & Toy Drive, we celebrate the joy of the season and the generosity that defines the DAC community. After last year’s record-breaking donations, the question remains... Can we surpass it this year?
Sharing Life is asking for donations of the following items:
2025 dacjuniorsyear in review

WRAPPING UP A YEAR OF PROGRESS ON THE COURSES
Travis Moore GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
It’s been another exceptionally busy and productive year for our golf and grounds team. Thanks to your support, and the hard work of our staff, we completed Phase 1 of the Blue Course Master Plan and continued to help the Gold Course mature following the 2023 renovation. These improvements position DAC for continued success, and we’re excited to build on this momentum in the year ahead.
This winter, we’ll focus on key in-house projects including drainage improvements, tree work, landscape upgrades, and water feature repairs. We’ll also reorganize the maintenance facility, service equipment, and refine work schedules to ensure we’re ready for the upcoming season.
While we’ll prepare for Phase 2 of the Blue Course and other enhancements, no major renovation work is planned for 2026. This will allow golfers to enjoy both courses fully and give our team the opportunity to focus on elevating daily playing conditions through consistent, routine maintenance.
On behalf of our entire crew and our families, thank you for your continued support. We wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you on the course.

MEET THE PRO:
STUART HENDLEY, PGA DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION
Stuart has been part of the DAC family since 2018 and has 40 years of professional golf experience. He played full time on various professional golf tours around the world for 24 years, competing in 30 countries. The last 16 years have been spent as a Director of Instruction at a few facilities in Texas, teaching, coaching and doing fittings, as well as continuing to compete in professional golf tournaments. A PGA Professional, former Division One college golfer at the University of Houston and a former #1-ranked JR in the United States, Stuart has a lifetime of experience competing, as well as teaching and coaching all levels of golfers to improve their game including a number of touring professionals.
Coaching Philosophy
"I believe playing the game of golf is difficult. Therefore I try to keep the teaching and learning as simple as possible. I will only ask a student to adjust something based on what the golf ball is doing and not based on what it
(technique) looks like. Every golfer is different and it is my job to figure out what each golfer needs to help them improve and have more fun playing golf. I will do this by listening to what they are telling me, what I am seeing, what the technology tells me and finally based on what each student is trying to achieve."
Pro Tips & Advice
"I always start with the basic set up (grip, alignment, ball position and posture). Most golfers swing issues start before they start to move the club. If you have a solid set up position, your chances of hitting good shots is greatly increased. Working on the best technique you can have is important, but learning how to play the game is equally important and that takes place on the golf course. I do a lot of lessons on the golf course. Finally making sure your equipment is helping you play your best golf is very important. There is really no excuse these days to be playing with equipment that is not the best suited for you. We can really dial in the right equipment these days with all of

the technology we have available to fit each and every golfer's individual needs.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR BALL HITS A
PERSON OR OBJECT
Tim Brown HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL
Okay everyone, we all watched the Ryder Cup recently and witnessed balls hit into the gallery many times. We see this at every PGA & LPGA event each week, and the ball usually hits someone in the gallery. Rule 11.1 covers situations when a ball in motion accidentally hits a person or an outside influence. There is no penalty when this occurs, and the ball is played as it lies. However, if this happens on the putting green, when a player’s ball in motion strikes another ball at rest on the green, the player making the stroke receives the General Penalty (two penalty strokes).
TENNIS TIP
OFF-SEASON:
THE BEST TIME TO WORK ON YOUR GAME
We’ve all been there—wanting to improve our spin, volley grip, or serve motion, but hesitant to try new things during matches. Now’s the perfect time! The break between leagues is ideal for getting with your pro and focusing on technique.
Maybe you can add a slice to your toolbox of shots, develop a spin serve, or work on adding more topspin to your backhand. The technical parts of the game take time and repetition to truly “stick” and build muscle memory.
The off-season is a great opportunity to do just that—before match play begins again. You’ll need a few months of consistent practice to groove the proper technique, grip, and swing motion.

FITNESS TIP
12 DAYS OF WELLNESS
TIPS TO KEEPING WELLNESS AS A PRIORITY WITHOUT MISSING OUT ON THE FUN
Bernie Garces FITNESS DIRECTOR
The holiday season is a time of celebration, connection, and tradition — but it can also bring added stress, busier schedules, and more indulgent foods than usual. While it’s important to enjoy the season fully, staying mindful of both physical and mental health ensures you enter the new year feeling energized rather than worn down. These 12 simple tips will help you stay active, eat smart, and keep wellness a priority without missing out on the fun.
On the 1st day of Wellness, my trainer gave to me…
Layer up and head outside! Cold weather doesn’t have to keep you indoors — with light, breathable layers, a warm hat, and gloves, you can still enjoy crisp walks, golf practice, or even a game of tennis while soaking up fresh air.
On the 2nd day of Wellness…
Take your workout indoors. When the temperatures drop, the fitness center becomes your best ally. Strength training, yoga, and group classes are a great way to maintain consistency, avoid the chill, and keep your body moving strong through the season.
On the 3rd day of Wellness…
Break it up into shorter sessions. If time feels tight or the winter blues are setting in, try two or three 15–20 minute workouts throughout the day. Quick bursts of cardio, stretching, or bodyweight strength work can keep your energy levels steady without needing a big time block.
On the 4th day of Wellness…
Stretch it out and keep joints mobile. Cold weather can leave muscles tight and stiff, so adding foam rolling, dynamic stretches, or mobility drills helps prevent injury and keeps you moving freely when you’re back on the course or court.
On the 5th day of Wellness…
Stay social with your fitness. Exercise doesn’t have to be a solo effort — invite
a friend for a brisk walk, join a group class, or sign up for pickleball. Staying active with others keeps you accountable, motivated, and makes movement more enjoyable.
On the 6th day of Wellness…
Don’t forget your water. Hydration is just as important in the winter as in the summer, even if you don’t feel as thirsty. Aim to sip water throughout the day to support your joints, energy, and recovery. Herbal teas and sparkling water can also help you stay hydrated.
On the 7th day of Wellness…
Prioritize protein at every meal. Lean meats, fish, beans, and Greek yogurt provide the building blocks for strong muscles and faster recovery. Keeping protein on your plate helps balance your energy and reduce cravings during the holiday season.
On the 8th day of Wellness…
Eat the rainbow with seasonal produce. Brightly colored vegetables like squash, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and beets are packed with vitamins and fiber. Adding them to your meals makes your plate more nutritious, filling, and festive.
On the 9th day of Wellness…
Snack smart during the holidays. It’s easy to reach for candy or cookies, but keeping nuts, fruit, or veggies with hummus nearby gives you healthier options. Smart snacking helps you stay fueled and satisfied without feeling sluggish.
On the 10th day of Wellness…
Don’t skip meals before a party. Eating balanced meals during the day keeps blood sugar steady and prevents overindulging later. Arrive at holiday gatherings satisfied, not starving, and you’ll make more mindful choices.
On the 11th day of Wellness…
Enjoy treats without guilt. Start your holiday plate with protein and veggies, then leave room for your favorite seasonal dessert. A small serving of pie or cookies can be enjoyed fully when you know it’s part of a balanced day.
On the 12th day of Wellness…
Take a walk after holiday meals. Even 10–15 minutes of gentle movement helps with digestion, improves circulation, and gives you an energy boost. Making it a family tradition can also be a fun way to end the meal together.
Celebrate the season with us by checking out the Club’s group fitness calendar — a great way to stay active, social, and energized all winter long.
Final Thought
The holidays are about balance, not perfection. By staying active, eating smart, and giving yourself permission to enjoy traditions without guilt, you’ll step into the new year feeling strong, healthy, and ready for what’s ahead.
