DAC. Hopefully you, your family, and friends have enjoyed all of our facilities all summer long.

We achieved a new membership record.

Bravo to Sarah Dixon, Warren Sibley, and the entire Membership Committee for their continued efforts to expand our Club.

Add to that, 100 degree+ days have been few and far between. Our pool had the busiest season in the history of

Our summer camps reached the highest attendance in recent years. From new member families to grandchildren of our members, it was a delight to see all the little campers participating in various summer sports and activities throughout the Club. The laughter, fun, and memories throughout those weeks will last a lifetime. Planning for next year is already underway.

A round of applause to Swim Team Coach Leah Harrington and her swimmers. She led the DAC Dolphins to a 1st place finish, besting the competition from many local country clubs. Hopefully this is the first of many titles to come.

I am thrilled to see all of our new facilities being utilized and enjoyed.

Although the dust has barely settled on this past year’s projects, the Board of Directors and DAC leadership is already working on the next improvement projects. Anticipate an announcement in the near-term.

The Fall season is upon us, and the golf courses have never looked better. The weather is still mild. Upcoming events: Back Porch Fridays, End of Summer Pool Party, the Fall Festival, and many other Golf and Tennis activities. Now that everyone is back from Summer vacations, please view the Calendar of Events and plan to spend your time at the DAC. Thank you for all your support. Turf Talk: Golf Course Enhancements and trash cleaned up after each rain episode.

Kevin Nettles Course Superintendent Dallas Athletic Club I do not ever remember having a summer as wet as this year has been.

In June, July, and August we have had 25 1/2 inches of rain. The rain has provided exceptional playing conditions and the crews have done an excellent job keeping the debris

Our Greens have been very good this year. We were able to keep the mowing height down and roll them regularly through the month of June which provided very good speed and smoothness. Since Bent Grass does not perform well in hot and humid weather we have raised the cutting height and stopped the rolling for the remainder of the Summer. With all the rain we have gotten this summer we have had to make several additional algaecide applications this year. The greens are healthy and we look forward to Fall, so we can get them back to the speed we like.

Our bunkers are preforming perfectly. As you can see in the

pictures below, the liners are protecting the sand as they were expected to. With all the rain this summer they have definitely been tested. In addition to protecting the sand the liners have reduced man hours required to maintain the bunkers during extreme weather conditions. We are very happy with the performance of the bunkers, but we continue to work on the aesthetics of the bunkers with our architect Chet Williams. There is some of the lip liner that is visible and we are working to reduce the visibility of it with out compromising the integrity of the liner or Playability of the bunker.

Make Bunker Play Simpler There are lots of different types of bunker shots you can learn to play and there are lots I can teach you. The one that I found that is the most important bunker shot to teach is one that ends up on the green.

Bunker shots can be intimidating, big lips, deep bunkers, water on the other side of the green, Oh Sheesh! So let’s make this simple, it’s mostly about the setup. Holding your sand wedge in front of you, turn the face open about 20 degrees, then take your grip.

Get into your stance with the ball way forward, opposite the heel of your front foot. Then set a little more weight on your front side, keep your hands even

One of the big issues on bunker shots is, people think they’re supposed to cut across the ball. When you do that, you lose the sliding action of the club. Why? Because that action comes from the face being open, and it’s hard to hold the face open when it’s cutting to the left. Swing out to your target, like on a normal pitch shot.

It’s that easy!

This has been one of our busiest summer ever, with record numbers at tennis camps, increased number of summer league teams and increased numbers in junior drills and men’s drills and play days! Introducing an Exciting New Program Jeff Hoke, Fitness Director

I’m sure all members know that we began offering a variety of classes in our fabulous new Group Exercise room this summer. Thank you for the wonderful response. We are very excited to tell you about a new program we are offering as well as a new package for the group exercise members.

Once the goals and fitness level of the member have been established they will begin to receive daily workouts via email.

Club members will also receive periodic healthy recipes, fitness tips and more.
