A Letter from your CLUB PRESIDENT Mike Moran As we end one of the hottest Texas summers and move into fall, we are not seeing very much rain like we experienced this spring, but are hoping for a break very soon.

The weather has been hot but the activities at the Club continue to be very exciting and we’re moving into our busier time of the year. The fall at DAC brings lots of family activities, not to mention the great golf and tennis that all of us enjoy!

The Summer Camps have ended and we were so pleased with the great participation we experienced. The number of little campers was phenomenal this year and it was exciting to actually see the increase

in these camps! We hope everyone had fun and it was great to see so many children of our new member families who attended as well as the many grandchildren of our members. The laughter and fun during those weeks was contagious.

We’re already planning for next year.

Special congratulations also go to our Swim Team under the guidance of our Aquatics Director, Lena Guarriello and her Assistant, Luke Pope. Our Swim Team came in second in the District Championship and beat out all of our “local country club competition” in Dallas. We are very proud of our Swim Team and their success!

This year has been a challenge on the golf course going from flooding to drought all within months. Special thanks go to Kevin Nettles, our Superintendent, and his crew for the wonderful job they continue to do day in and day out. Working in the heat is certainly challenging! When

you see him a n d h i s crew, thank them for all they do for us and pray for some rain! I didn’t think we would be saying that so soon!

Coming up this fall will be our Back Porch Fridays, End of Summer Pool Party, the Fall Festival and many other Golf and Tennis activities. Plan to spend your time enjoying the fun and fellowship at the Club. Please share the experience with your friends and family.

Turf Talk: Course Conditions - New Bridge Kevin Nettles, Course Superintendent It has been an unusual year from extremely wet and mild temperatures to extremely hot and dry.

The courses have remained in great condition this summer. With the arrival of cooler temperatures the staff will begin grooming and conditioning our Bent Grass Greens, which will produce much smoother and quicker ball roll.

The overwhelming response from the bunker renovation on the Blue course has been very exciting. Playability, consistency, and maintenance are goals that were achieved.

The renovation of the bunkers on the Gold course will begin in November and if the weather cooperates, the project is expected to be completed in April. We will close the front nine and complete that phase and will then move to the back nine. With Chet’s careful oversight we know the inconvenience will be well worth it.

September 17 Shoot Out September 24 On Friday, July 17th, following play in the MGA Red, White, and Blue dropout scramble, the MGA and WGA honored their commitment to fund $2,000 to The First Tee - Dallas’ Scholarship Fund. “I am very pleased with this decision and feel it speaks volumes as to the impact our Golf Associations are capable of outside the grounds of the DAC,” commented Steve Mayfield, President of the MGA. “This is a great opportunity to work with a prestigious club like the Dallas Athletic Club. Your contribution to the The First Tee is greatly appreciated,” said Reggie Newton, Program

Manager of The First Tee-Dallas. “We are grateful for the Dallas Athletic Club’s interest in supporting the mission of The First Tee.” About The First Tee - The First Tee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth development organization whose mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. As a massage therapist I have a few suggestions that I believe may help my clients get more out of their massage.

Plan:

Make your relaxation and recuperation a priority. Don’t let your massage be an afterthought, if it can be helped. Think about planning activities around your massage that would not draw away from your comfort. Try to give yourself

space after your massage for down time. Schedule workouts before your massage. Make time after your massage to rest and relax. Try to avoid diving immediately back into a fast pace.

Let go:

Breathe and focus on releasing control of your muscles. This is a moment to reset your body’s muscle memory.
