On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank each DAC member for your continued support and involvement in your Club. We have a full and active membership who choose to spend their leisure time with friends and family enjoying our courses, courts, and facilities. Your involvement enhances our Club and makes it a vibrant place to gather and enjoy. As we welcome this holiday season, the DAC calendar is full of wonderful opportunities to enjoy your Club and celebrate with friends and family.
We kick off the holidays with Gingerbread House Decorating events on Nov. 20, 23, and 24. Consider hosting your Thanksgiving Day at DAC with Thanksgiving Day Brunch on Nov 28. In December we will host a new event: Our 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting with holiday activities, a festive buffet, and live music. Please make your reservations *early* to greet Santa this year at Pancakes with Santa on Dec. 7 and 8. Last, you are invited to join your fellow members for cocktails and upscale bites at the Annual Holiday Member Social and Toy Drive on December 15; this event is a great way for DAC to thank its members, give back to our community, greet staff and fellow members, and toast another wonderful year. Throughout the season, if you will be hosting at home, but would still like Chef Lamping
to serve you and your family, reservations for takeaway meals for Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays open on Nov. 1 and Dec. 1 respectively.
As I discussed in detail in my previous letter, renovations to the Blue Course and the tennis courts begin this month. The health of our Club and our involved membership allow us to plan and execute these endeavors and improvements. Thank you for your support of our management team and our staff during this time. If you should have questions about golf course renovations or tennis renovations, please don’t hesitate to ask! Sincere thanks to our dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment this year to ensure that we have a wonderful experience each time we visit DAC. Our GM, Brent Burkhart, and his team are continuously striving to raise the standard of excellence on our courts, courses, and in the clubhouse.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season. Thank you for being such a vital part of our club family.
I look forward to seeing you at DAC soon,
Whitney Ragsdale President

Blue Course Master Plan Overview
by Travis Moore, Golf Course Superintendent
We are currently planning to execute the Blue Course Master Plan as provided by Golf Course Architect, Chet Williams in two phases. The scope of work primarily focuses on infrastructure upgrades but also includes design improvements to several holes. The first phase is scheduled to begin in November of this year and will primarily focus on irrigation system replacement, new cart paths, additional tees, and drainage improvements. Partial closures will be necessary for the duration of the project (November of 2024 to mid-summer of 2025), but we do not anticipate more than 9 holes being closed at a time.
The timing of the second phase is still being determined but is estimated to begin in the summer of 2026 or 2027. This phase focuses primarily on greens, bunkers, and design changes to holes 4 and 14. During this phase - the Blue Course will be closed during the “grow-in” of the new greens from midsummer to late fall or early spring of the following year. However, the option of keeping the course open, but on temporary greens, for the duration of the project is very possible.
Estimated Scope of Work and Phasing
Irrigation System (Phase 1) This work will be very similar to that of the Gold Course project. Main line piping which provides city water to greens will be re-used. All other irrigation system components will be replaced including sprinkler heads, lateral piping, valves, controllers, etc. This work also includes a new pump station and associated building which will remain on #5 Blue.
Cart Paths (Phase 1) Again, this work will be very similar to that of the Gold Course project. Any paths deemed to be acceptable in terms of condition, size, and location will be re-used. All others will be completely rebuilt to meet modern standards for design. Re-routing will take place on several holes to improve traffic flow and aesthetics.
Tee Boxes (Phase 1) Add new back tees on several holes. Modify existing tees as needed to improve overall playability.
Roughs (Phase 1) Replant several high traffic areas in the roughs to improved varieties of bermudagrass. This will be done in conjunction with tree removal and tree plantings where necessary.
Additional Design Improvements (Phase 1 and 2) Minor modifications to several holes including teeing areas, fairway routing, bunker modifications, tree planting, etc.
Drainage Improvements (Phase 1 and Phase 2) Drainage improvements for high play areas such as tees, fairways, and approaches are a major priority of the Blue Course Master Plan. It makes the most sense logistically to complete as much of this work as possible in the same areas that we will be doing cart paths and irrigation. Phase 1 will focus primarily on fairways and other large areas. Additional areas will take place in Phase 2 as needed.
Ponds (Phase 1 and Phase 2) Dredging is incredibly expensive and only select areas are included in both phases. This work will primarily focus on improving aesthetics and water quality. Examples include: #10 Blue (in front of green), #11 Blue (small pond near green), #12 Blue (the creek that runs in front of the green), and portions of the larger ponds on the course. Additional dredging work will take place as needed but is not currently included in the scope of work for Phase 1 or Phase 2. Bank stabilization work will also be completed as needed on several holes.
Renovate Greens and Collars (Phase 2) Renovate all greens except holes 4 and 14. These greens will likely be completely re-built due to design changes. Re-grade and plant improved bermudagrass on areas directly adjacent to greens (collars and approaches). Correct any drainage issues.
Bunkers (Phase 2) Replace all bunker sand and repair bunker liners (similar to Gold Course project). Add any additional bunkers per Master Plan at this time.
We appreciate your patience as we get these exciting course improvements underway. Stay tuned for weekly updates throughout the project.

LESSON: ground force in the golf swing
by Tim Brown, Golf Professional
Every player is always looking for a way to get more distance when they are out on the golf course. The quickest way to help yourself out and hit the ball further without going to the gym or buying new clubs is to learn how to use the force of the ground in your golf swing.
A quick definition of Ground Force says that ground reaction forces are the vertical and horizontal forces that are generated through our connected extremities. Now, this is something that everyone can immediately begin to incorporate in their golf swing, but being
GOLF IQ: game improvement
by Stuart Hendley PGA Director of Instruction
Another Holiday season is here! I’ve been writing a series of articles in the newsletters this year on the topic of Golf IQ and various things relating to that. The more time I spend teaching and coaching, the more I realize how important it is to learn as much as you can about the game to improve and have more fun. The best players in the world of course work hard and have lots of talent, but they all learn everything they can (golf IQ) about the game to play their best.
Come see me or any of our professional staff to learn as much as you can about your technique, equipment, course management, how to practice, how to prepare for rounds of golf and tournaments, etc.
physically active and doing a little strength training can go a long way in improving this technique drastically. What happens is that the force we can produce through the ground is initiated at our feet, through our legs to our hips and torso, to our arms and shoulders, and finally down the golf club to the club head.
The force that we exert onto the ground when swinging is then responded to by the ground in a force of the same magnitude in the opposite direction. This immediately creates faster swing speed by utilizing high loaded and a quick accelerative movement using the ground as force.
See one of your golf professionals to learn how to incorporate more ground force into your golf swing!
This is the time of year I offer my Holiday Packages, which is the best value for my services all year. My regular hourly rate is $145 and my normal three hour package is $405 ($135 per hour).
Three hour package: $360 ($120 per hour)
This package must be purchased in November or December of 2024 and can be used at anytime. Only one package per person or per family and you must have less than two hours remaining on any other package to purchase.
Contact Stuart to purchase or have any questions. Cell: 432-813-4672, Email: shendley@dacstaff.org. Enjoy the Holidays and I’ll see you on the course!

The rule for Provisional Ball is when the Player believes the ball just played is either:
Recently we hosted the NTPGA Section Championship here at Dallas Athletic Club, I witnessed this Rule being played incorrectly by a fellow player. The player hit his tee ball
into the Pentalty Area (Pond) on #10 Gold, he turned to the NTPGA Official on that tee box and said he would hit a Provisional Ball.
The player can re-tee and play that ball or go up to the Penalty Area and drop, but there is no such thing as a Provisional on a ball that goes into the Penalty Area.
A. Out of Bounds, or
B. Lost outside a Penalty Area

A MESSAGE FROM NATALIA PRINZ:
by Natalia Prinz, Director of Tennis
After a long season of leagues and competition, we are now officially in the off season until late January/early February. Those few months are great to work on your technique, add new elements to your game, maybe learn new shots or add more spin to your serve.
While we will be partially under construction building new courts 1-4, the rest of the facility will be open as usual. Our programming will remain the same and we will communicate weekly with any updates!
We appreciate your patience during the time of construction and we can not wait to show you all new courts once the project is completed. Our department has worked really hard in the past 3 years building programming, offering new clinics and working with teams on strategy and technique. FITNESS holiday wellness tips
by Jeff Hoke, Fitness Director
The holiday season can be a whirlwind of busyness and tempting treats, often leading us to let our guard down and think, “I’ll start fresh in the New Year.” However, those extra pounds and inches can be tough to shed! So, what should you do, skip the festivities and miss out on the fun? Absolutely not! Here are some healthy holiday tips to help you enjoy the celebrations:
1 Plan Ahead
If you're heading to a holiday gathering, consider bringing a nutritious dish. This ensures there’s something healthy to enjoy.
2 Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Remember, thirst can often be mistaken for hunger.
3 Practice Portion Control
Use smaller plates to help manage your serving sizes. Take just a little of your favorites to avoid feeling deprived.
4 Eat Mindfully
Slow down and savor each bite. This helps you enjoy your food more and recognize when you’re full.
Find a Workout Buddy
Exercising with a friend can make workouts more enjoyable and help keep you accountable.
12
Stay Active During Gatherings
Take the stairs, go for walks, or engage in active games with family and friends during holiday events.
By following these tips, you can fully enjoy the holiday season without compromising your
wellness goals!
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
5 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
½ cup chopped pecans
¼ cup pepitas
¼ cup chopped dried fruit, such as cherries, dates or raisins.
2. Bring an inch or two of water to a boil in a large pot fitted with a steamer basket. Add sweet potatoes, cover and steam until very soft, 18 to 20 minutes. Remove basket and discard water. Return sweet potatoes to the pot. Add milk, 4 tablespoons butter, salt, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and pepper; mash until desired consistency. Transfer to a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
3. Stir pecans, pepitas, dried fruit and the remaining 1 tablespoon butter together in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the top of the sweet potatoes.
4. Bake casserole until hot and the nuts are lightly toasted, 20 to 30 minutes.
Per serving: 217 calories, 15g fat, 20g carbs, 4g protein
5 Limit Sugary Drinks
Choose water, sparkling water, or herbal teas instead of sugary holiday beverages.
6 Opt for Lean Proteins
Select turkey, chicken, or fish over richer meats. They can be just as flavorful and lighter on your stomach.
7 Don't Skip Meals
Skipping meals to “save up” for a feast often leads to overeating. Aim for balanced meals throughout the day.
8 Indulge Wisely
If there’s a dessert you love, treat yourself to a small portion. Moderation can satisfy cravings without overdoing it.
