president's letter It has been a busy year, and we will close out 2023 with more fun at DAC during the next two months.

The Gold course is starting to round into shape, and the Blue course has performed beautifully even with the extra play. Travis and his team have done an excellent job throughout the year. Be sure to thank him and his team the next time you see them.

We will once again be bringing an unwrapped toy to help benefit children and families in our community.

Speaking of doing an excellent job, Natalia and her team at the Tennis Center are staying incredibly busy. The tennis program is continuing to blossom.

The addition of pickleball is a huge hit. Stop by the Tennis Shop soon. There is something for everyone there from beginners to experienced players.

As we bring this year to a close, I want to thank our membership for spreading the word about our wonderful Club. You are the ambassadors of DAC. Our growth is related to current members getting the word out about our Club. Your continued support is what makes us great and a desired destination.

Be sure to make your reservations for the annual Thanksgiving Buffet at the Club. Chef Michael Lamping and his talented staff are preparing a fabulous feast. Pancakes with Santa is the most popular event of the year. Get your reservations early because it does fill up quickly. The Annual Holiday Member Social and Toy Drive is a member favorite.

We still have a long waiting list of people wanting to join DAC. Cari Wheatley is doing a wonderful job of promoting our Club to prospects. Our growth is evident throughout the Club. It’s a great time to be a member of Dallas Athletic Club!

membership From the Desk of Cari Wheatley It is no secret that Dallas Athletic Club is one of the most sought-after Family Clubs in the area. Over the past year in our newsletters we have told the stories of a few members that you may have seen around the Club, highlighted our littlest members, and celebrated our high school seniors, but have you ever wondered about other members beyond your family's experience? DAC is more than just a club; it's a living testament to the bonds that unite us and the legacy we continue to build, enriching the lives of both current and future generations of members.

Updating Your App Home Screen Did you know that you can change your home screen view on the DAC Mobile App? Many members have often noted that when they log onto their app, their screen only shows their statement balance and does not reflect any payment that has been made. A better option is to change the item from "Statement Balance" to "Current Balance". It's easy to change this area, referred to as glances, in just a couple of clicks!

First, click the minus icon to remove from your home screen

Then, click the plus icon to add to your homescreen.

You can then rearrange the order by dragging and dropping by selecting this icon.

Other things that you can display on your home screen in the "glances" area includes upcoming reservations, weather, a link to call the Club, and upcoming events. You can pick the ones that are most relevant to you. Need help? Feel free to stop by the offices and visit Kelsey or Maribel.

When will the Gold Course Re-Open for Play?

The Gold Course renovation is now in the final stages and the big question on everyone’s mind is when the course will re-open for play. I can assure you that we are just as excited as you are to show off the comprehensive improvements and to get golfers back out on the course. However, it is simply too early to provide a firm opening date. Currently, our goal remains to open with limited play in late November or early December of this year. We are optimistic that this will be possible, but only if all of the newly

planted grass is healthy enough to handle play. Over the next several weeks, we will do everything possible to “grow-in” greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other disturbed areas before winter. If necessary, opening will be delayed until the spring of 2024 when warmer weather allows for continued establishment. Regardless of the opening date, please also understand it will take most of next year for the course to mature and for construction related scars to heal. Thank you for your continued patience throughout the project. Please stay tuned for more updates and visit the Course Renovation section of the website to learn more.

I'm always inspired and energized by the "big" holiday season. I can't get enough of the beautiful lights, gorgeous decorations, amazing food, and even the shopping. Unfortunately, that's not true for everyone.

As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us once again, it is my pleasure to offer you first hand in holiday gift giving at it's best. GOLF RULE:

This rule is for all of the golfers that love to get out on the course in the early morning hours. If you are playing early in the morning, odds are that the golf course is going to be covered with morning dew.

If this is the case, there are only a few instances where you can dry the dew off of your golf ball.

1. You are playing in a tournament that is playing under lift, clean, and place conditions. In this case, you are able to mark your ball with a tee, clean the ball, then place it back in its original position.

2. After you putt out on the previous hole, you are able to clean the ball before you take your next tee shot on.

3. Lastly, you may clean the dew off the ball after you have reached the green and you have marked your golf ball.

If you do decide to pick up your ball while you are in the fairway or anywhere other than the green, or teeing your ball up on the tee box, you are in breach of Rule 16-1a and will be given a two-stroke penalty (loss of hole in match play). Now that you have an understanding of the rule, be sure to only clean the dew when you are allowed to.

Everyone is always looking to get more distance off the tee. Being able to outdrive our buddies is one of the best feelings on the course. Here's a tip on how we can instantly start gaining yards with the big stick.

Well, it’s that time of year again when I offer my Holiday Packages for lessons/ fittings. I'm offering the same two as last year with a few new stipulations. My normal rate is $145 per hour.

• Four hour package: $475 ($118 per hour) • Two hour package: $250 ($125 per hour)

tennis A Message from Natalia Prinz We have had a very busy and exciting fall season. Our leagues for adults and juniors are over, but we still have plenty of fun and social events for our tennis members.

We will continue with Men's and Women's Club Championship matches on the flexible schedule base. The colder months also mean an earlier sundown. Members can now enjoy our new LED lights on courts 5 and 6 along with all of our other courts as well!

If you have guests joining you during the holiday season for tennis or pickleball, please check in with the Pro Shop prior to your reservation. We are always here to help you with your holiday shopping for your friends and family, so come and see us at the Tennis Shop. Don't know what to get as a gift? STROKE SERIES:

four advanced strokes for success When you pick up a racquet, there are certain must-have shots. These are the primary strokes—forehand, backhand, serve, volley—that players develop in order to compete. Within those primary strokes lie clever variations; more complex shades that require elevated skill to execute, which give a game added depth and options.

FOREHAND DROP SHOT A well-played drop shot is the ultimate disruptor. The surprise tactic can catch an opponent off-guard and break a point wide open. Since the shot requires underspin, most players are more comfortable executing it on their backhand side. The more western grips of modern forehands make it less intuitive to slice off that wing, but an effective forehand drop shot will drive opponents crazy.

THE HIGH ROLLER Players like receiving balls at a consistent height and pace, so changing the tempo, speed or trajectory of your strokes in the middle of rally can upset the flow. This shot isn’t a soft moonball, but a looping drive with plenty of margin over the net, spin and depth. It can also serve as a rally ball when you’re feeling tight, or your opponent is misfiring.

SWING VOLLEY It’s doubtful you’d start a point with the intention of hitting a swing volley. But it’s a smart improvisation when a serve or ground stroke elicits a soft, floating return. Rather than let the ball bounce and essentially restart the point, move forward to intercept the shot while it’s still in the air.

Since it’s rarely practiced, the timing can make it demanding to execute. But when done properly, it keeps you in command of the rally and your opponent on the defensive.

CHIP LOB RETURN For such a delicate shot, using the lob on a return of serve can be quite an offensive tactic. It’s not meant to win the point outright, but to turn the tables and seize control of the net. Players with good hands have a natural feel for this shot, but it’s also something you can develop with practice.

These four strokes comprise the next level of must-haves that make a player more accomplished and difficult to beat. These four shots, if mastered, are sure to help you win more matches.
