DALLAS ATHLETIC CLUB | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2022 | 3

It’s hard to believe another summer has come and gone. The one major topic around the Club is water. Dallas is coming through the second worst drought on record. Travis and the crew are working hard to keep the golf course in championship shape. They have done a wonderful job of maintaining our greens and playability overall. Along with no rain, the heat has been higher than normal all summer long. Hopefully, it will not be long before the temperature is a little cooler and the rain Theincreases.tennis, pool, and golf course activity have continued to be strong all summer. Speaking of tennis, our men’s program just won a spot at Nationals which will play in October in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is fantastic news and shows how the men’s program has grown over the past few years. Congratulations, MTA! Natalia and her staff have grown both women’s and men’s tennis to be competitive, and the courts are full. Along with this growth comes a long overdue remodel of the tennis building. You may start to see construction activity going on at Tennis. There will be a full renovation of the Tennis shop happening over the next few months. Our membership continues to be very strong. All categories are full, with very few resignations month over month. The reputation of Dallas Athletic Club is rising throughout the metroplex. This is a testament to the hard work of member-focused planning with Brent and staff executing the plan. Even with difficult circumstances surrounding us like the once-in-ageneration pandemic and labor shortages, especially in the hospitality field, our Club continues to excel. Let’s keep it going! Fall is quickly approaching, and this means ideal weather for golf, tennis, and outdoor dining. Music on the Lawn will return soon, so be sure and get your reservation early. We are blessed to have such a retreat in the city to make new friends and enjoy the atmosphere. Let’s be courteous to each other and especially to the staff who do a fabulous job. Take care, and see you at the Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Sadler and their children at last year's Fall Festival! Save the Date - The 2022 Fall Festival is scheduled for Sunday, October 16!

The Membership Committee is focused on ensuring our prospective member waitlist remains full of qualified member candidates. The evolving vetting procedures are in place to ensure incoming member applications are thoroughly reviewed, sponsors interviewed, and our due diligence has been done to protect our Club’s integrity. When your candidate is nearing the top of the waitlist, I will send you a Sponsor Questionnaire to complete on their behalf. This will take the place of the previously required recommendation letters. They cannot be removed from the waitlist and presented for membership without a completed questionnaire. The Board of Directors and the Membership Committee appreciate your continued support of our membership efforts. It is incredibly exciting to see members who are so proud of their Club! Members are bringing out guests to showcase the fun activities around the Club. Whether it be on the courses or courts, enjoying a dining experience or bringing your family and friends out to a Club event, the immense sense of pride within our membership is tangible right now. We are incredibly fortunate for our Club to be such a great place. It is a privilege to be a part of the DAC Family, and I am excited for what the future holds in terms of our Cheers, membership. 2022 by Travis Moore, Course Superintendent Fall is my favorite time of year on the course. The shorter days and cooler nights provide much-needed relief from the summer heat and many look forward to fall activities like the start of college football and hunting season. The climatic changes this time of year also mark the beginning of what we turf nerds refer to as “bentgrass season”. During this time of year, our greens are actively growing and finally have a chance to recover from the long summer. As the greens get stronger, we are able to be more aggressive with our main tenance practices; resulting in faster and firmer putting sur faces. The bermudagrass on our tees, fairways, and roughs begins to slow down this time of year but is still growing enough to provide color, definition, and good overall playing conditions. In short, it is typically a great time of year to be on the course. Fall is also an exceptionally busy time of year for our main tenance operations. Over the next several weeks we will be working to promote recovery from drought stress, preparing both courses for a busy tournament schedule, and ensuring that a long list of critical fall maintenance cultural practices are completed before the cold weather arrives. The summer of 2022 was undoubtedly a summer to record on the books. In spite of all of the weather challenges this year, I feel that overall we are in good shape heading into one of the best and busiest times of year on the course. This would not be possible without your support of our mainte nance operations and the hard work and dedication of our crew. Thank you.
