Do you know your payment options?

Have you noticed that the USPS service has been getting slower?

Keep this in mind when making your monthly Club payments. There are several payment options for your account that do not require mailing in your checks.

The Club offers electronic payments via the website or the DAC app using your bank account, ACH payment on the 20th of each month (forms available in accounting and on the website), payment drop box in the administrative offices at the Club, and credit card payments via Plastiq (fees apply). Remember, to avoid late fees, that payments are due by the last day of the month. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the accounting office.

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT WARREN SIBLEY What an exciting time to be a member at Dallas Athletic Club. The Club teems with activity: families filling the patio and lawn for Wednesday Family Night dinners, youngsters participating in Op 36 with our golf pros, tennis courts packed with leagues and drills, and the golf course trying to green up after a cold snap for the ages.

We are thrilled for the future here at DAC, however, before I mention what will be happening in the next few months, I wanted to give a construction update. Things are progressing better than we could have hoped. We are nearing the completion of the demolition work and are ready to finalize our permits and get to building. Just a few more months of inconvenience will be more than worth it. We thank everyone for their patience during this renovation.

If you’ve been to our holiday meals you might have noticed we are really trying to figure out how to operate in the “new normal” and serve a crowd as large as ours. We’ve certainly not figured out the perfect way, but Chef and his crew are working hard. Mark your calendars for Mother’s Day Brunch on May 9th and a Father’s Day Brunch on June 20th. Our goal is to strive to exceed your expectations and get better with every event. I look forward to seeing you for these long standing, traditional Club events.

Another great tradition is that of celebrating the official opening of the pool and summer season with a Memorial Day celebration followed by our Independence Day celebration on Sunday, July 4.

More information will follow in the newsletter and emails on how you and your family can join and celebrate with us.

In early April we welcomed our new Head Tennis Professional, Natalia Prinz, at a meet-and-greet.

We are thrilled to have her and she couldn’t have come with higher recommendations. Please take time to stop by the tennis shop and say hello.

On the golf course you may have noticed that there are numerous areas affected by February’s generational cold snap. Kevin says there are signs of growth down in the roots and that our patience will be rewarded in many areas. Undoubtedly, we will be forced to replant some turf. We will know more in the coming weeks and will be sure to communicate course condition updates through weekly e-News emails.

My last note relates to communication. We strive to communicate with our members in the most productive and efficient way. I’ve had numerous conversations over the last few months where a member expresses a frustration over not having advanced notice or details regarding the Club and Club functions. I am usually able to show that the information was relayed, usually in multiple ways.

I encourage all those interested in Club news and events to read our emails and newsletters. They are professionally created and very helpful.

I hope to see you all at the Club very soon and hope you all enjoy a wonderful beginning to the summer.

• Memorial Day Weekend kicks off our 2021 Pool Season! Chef Michael has a delicious cookout and buffet planned for Saturday, Sunday and Monday that will leave you wanting seconds.

• Celebrate Mom by bringing her out for Mother’s Day Brunch!

If she prefers dinner, we are also offering Steak Night that evening!

• This year, DAC is offering two ways to celebrate our favorite Dads. Make your reservation

for Brunch in the Royal Room or on the Pool Patio!

KEVIN NETTLES, SUPERINTENDENT COURSE CONDITIONS The crews are busy replacing the grass that was damaged by the record freeze in February on the tee boxes and green surrounds.

In addition to the damage to the grass, several shrubs and plants were damaged as well.

Our landscape crew has been working to replace the injured plants, but it has been difficult to find good replacements as the freeze also affected the suppliers.

The crews have replaced the drains and cart paths in front of 1 and 10 tees on the Blue Course.

We have also installed a new drain to the approach area on 14 Gold. As the courses get older the soil tends to move, which in some cases causes water to puddle and wet areas. Some of these areas can be corrected by Look who made a

regrading and leveling. We are currently working on a plan to regrade the area between the cart path and 9 tee boxes on the Blue Course to dry this area up.

We continue adding more shade tolerant grass to the roughs.

This spring we will be planting approximately 1.5 acres of Tiff Turf grass that has proven to be a great turf for these areas.

Our new bridges on 10 and 12 Blue are complete and a great improvement. We are working on replacing the bridge on 17 Blue, this bridge will be moved to the right by roughly 15 yards.

The installation will require some grading to make the creek bank even and rerouting the cart path to fit the new bridge. This project will begin later this summer and will not require closing any part of the course.

DAC is proud to be hosting the Final Qualifying for the 2021 U.S. Open! There are only nine golf courses in the United States hosting this Final Qualifying.

On Monday, May 24th, about 110 players will play 36 holes over our Blue and Gold Courses. Players will include some PGA Tour Pro’s and many Collegiate players that have not yet qualified for the U.S. Open.

Roughly the top 10 scores will qualify for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines!

Members are welcome to come out to spectate!

Food and Beverage will be available to purchase, however golf carts will not be allowed. We will also need many scoring volunteers, so be on the lookout for details. This will be a great day at DAC, so please come out to enjoy these world class players!

A Message from Natalia Prinz DAC Family It’s been an exciting few weeks getting to know everyone. Dallas Athletic Club is one of the best private clubs in North Texas, and I could not be happier looking into the future of the DAC Tennis Program. Thank you to the tennis committee and Brent for trusting me to make our program the envy of the metroplex and beyond.

Joe, Erich, Cameron, Hunter and I are excited to build premier programming and long-lasting success here on the DAC courts. Our goal is to add value to your experience at every touchpoint and exceed all expectations.

Our immediate objectives are to enhance programs for

The DAC Women’s USTA 3.0/ VanDenBerg’s team won the City Championships on April 18th, 2021.

They will be competing in sectionals in Houston on August 27th-29th.

Hitting the ball through the middle of the court in doubles does quite a few things to hinder your opponent. It creates confusion as to which player will take the ball, it dramatically reduces the angle the opponent has to return the ball, and it gives you

the highest percentage chance to make the shot (the net strap is the lowest point on the net). It also creates holes for you to attack on the next ball. Once you bring both players to the middle you can then use the wings to put volleys away or create more pressure. Attacking down the middle whether you have two players back, two players at the net or a traditional doubles set up will reward you greatly over the course of a match.
