We always start off the Firefighters’ Weekend by remembering our brothers and sisters who have come before us, and who have made the ultimate sacrifice. On Thursday night at 8:00pm we will hold the 3rd Annual Firefighters’ Candlelight Vigil in front of Market and Tucker right across the street from City Hall. This is a great tribute to our history and the firefighters who gave their all. Things only get better as the weekend continues. Friday night is our 4th Annual St. Louis and Metro Firefighters’ Ball held at the luxurious Four Seasons – St. Louis. What a night, it all starts at 5:00pm with an open bar, hand passed hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, a fantastic seated dinner, and then a live 8 piece band to dance the night away! The Ball is always open to the public, and all proceeds go to Backstoppers “the Police and Fireman’s Fund”. Click on the Ball logo for more info on ticket prices and sales locations. Saturday it’s the event that started it all, the 28th Annual Great Fire Engine Rally! The parade will start promptly at 10:00am. This is a fun filled family event and great for kids of all ages. The parade route will be available for print on 'The Great Fire Engine Rally' page. There will be games for the kids, great food, and approximately 100 fire trucks!

On Sunday, we will have a lot going on. Starting in the morning we will have the 2nd Annual Firefighters’ Worship Service starting at 8:46am, the exact time Flight 11 crashed into World Trade Center Tower 1. We will have a time of fellowship and prayer for all 3000 people killed on 9-11-01, and some great music and inspiring words for all of us. All morning and into the afternoon on a happier note we will have the 2nd Annual Breakfast for Burn Camp at the Lafayette Fire Company No. 1 from 8:00am – 2:00pm. All proceeds from the breakfast buffet will go to the Missouri Children’s Burn Camp. To close the weekend out is the Official 10th Anniversary Ceremony of 9-11-01. September Brings

FAIR Weather

September in St. Louis is a great time for art, music, and good food all offered at the same location. Take your pick of the art fairs and festivals held throughout the metro area. A few art fairs to idle away some time on a weekend afternoon are the St. Louis Art Fair in Clayton, Art Outside at Schlafly’s in Maplewood, St. Louis Hills Art in the Park, and the Historic Shaw Art Fair.

St. Louis Art Fair Downtown Clayton

The 18th annual Saint Louis Art Fair, a nationally juried fine art and fine craft show, is held in the streets of Clayton Friday, September 9th through Sunday, September 11th. The St. Louis Art Fair is consistently ranked one of the nation’s top fine art fairs. Each year the Saint Louis Art Fair attracts over 150,000 art enthusiasts. The fair also includes live entertainment on several stages and great food.

Art in the Park

Art in the Park returns to Francis Park in the Heart of St. Louis Hills on Sunday, September 25th. Visitors will be treated to a combination of art, live bands, delicious food, a classic car show, vintage baseball game, and hands-on art projects. Fun events are planned for all ages. Art in the Park is located at Nottingham and Childress. For more information call 752-3185.

Schlafly’s Art Outside was established in 2004 as an alternative juried art fair featuring affordable art from artists based in the St. Louis area. The fair’s mission is to increase public knowledge and appreciation for the local art scene by creating opportunities that connect artists, musicians, performers, and the community. From September 9 thru September 11 you can support local artists, hear some good music, and drink and eat at Art Outside. Located at the Schlafly’s Bottleworks in Maplewood at 7260 Southwest Ave at Manchester.

Historic Shaw Art Fair

On October 1 and 2 you can wander through beautiful Flora Place at Tower Grove Avenue in the Shaw neighborhood surrounded by fine arts of all genres from jewelry to painting and mixedmedia to sculpture. Music is played throughout the event and a food court offers food and beverage from local restaurants. For more details about this even, go to ShawArtFair.org
