While Shallow Water Berth is permitted to handle Container, Liquid, Steel, Project Cargo, Ro-Ro, Ropax and other clean cargoes covering both coastal and Export Import, the Coastal Berth is permitted to handle only coastal commodities like Cement, Steel, Containers andothercleancargoes.

It is pertinent to note that all the terminals under JNPA are handling exclusively containers, where in the operators are handling their services on a weekly basis under fixed berthing windows. As a part of this endeavor tokeepaugmentingwelldevelopedinfrastructureinport and in order to cater to non window vessels carrying multipurpose cargoes which arrive on adhoc basis, JNPA is instrumental in providing exclusive facilities for suchvesselsattheShallowWaterBerth.

Under this initiative by JNPA, Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal handled their first vessel MV UAFL ATHENS operated by Benlines on behalf of United Africa Feeder Lines on the 26th August ‘23 and handled around 230 TEUs on board during its stay at the berth.Thisserviceisoperatingtovariousportscovering Jebel Ali, Port Victoria, Nakala, Mutsamudu and Zanzibar carrying essential commodities like garments, pharma,machinery,paperetc.

In order to promote the policy of JNPA to support the trade, Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal will be providing berths to other adhoc services also operating in these sectors, who find it difficult in getting a timely slot in other terminals of Jawaharlal Nehru Port on a regularbasis.

PIL signs MoU with SGTraDex on digital logistics innovation

SINGAPORE: PIL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SGTraDex , which is an extension to SGTraDex’s Digital Collaboration for Logistics Innovation MoU signed earlier with its partnersinJuly2023.

Shri Goyal said this while addressing the Northern Regional Export Excellence Award function of Federation of Indian Export Organisation(FIEO)inNewDelhi.

Expressing confidence that India’spresidencywillberecognized and remembered for many years as an action oriented Summit where significant deliverables were offered to the world, Shri Goyal noted that the recent G20 Trade Ministers’ meet in Jaipur gave a Call of Action through which Indian MSME sector will get a significant access to information, which will help them become globally successful exporters. “We are looking at mapping global value chains so that Indian traders can play a greater role in global value chains and we also focussed on digitisation of trade documentation,” he added. He noted that India will have almost 90 percent of global GDP being represented in New Delhi at the G20 Summitinafewdays.

Shri Goyal said that after a long period of a stagnation in exports, India broke the ceiling and crossed 450 billion dollars of merchandise exports in 2022-23. Admitting that the current year does show some challenges with geopolitical situation and the impact of that which we are seeing in certain sectors like petroleum, gems and textiles, he expressed confidence that our exporters have the ability and agility

to overcome adverse situations. He said that we are living in a nation full of pride, a nation full of talent, a nation which is being recognized across the world as the future engine of world economic growth. India has celebratedthreemajorachievements in the recent days – Chandrayan mission, in sports in form of wins in javelin and chess and the successful engagements in Ministerial Meetings inG20,hesaid.

Shri Goyal quoted Prime Minister ShriNarendraModisaying“Business can transform potential into prosperity,obstaclesintoopportunity, aspirations into achievements, small or big, global or local, it can ensure progressforeveryone.”Thisistrulya great vote of confidence in our business community, he said. “You are being recognized and respectedfortheworkthatyoudoand your contribution in our journey towardsbecomeadevelopednationis being recognized and applauded,” headded.

Commerce and Industry Minister said that India was one of the few nations who showed resilience and responsibility during the pandemic.

“We also showed sensitivity to the developing world by providing them vaccines, to many of them free of charge. We showed that under Prime Minister Modi’s astute leadership we will perform and lead globalgrowth,”hesaid.

India as a nation of opportunities. For the next 30 years, India will continue to have a young population and we will add 30 trillion dollars to become a 35 trillion economy by 2047, he said, adding that our young, aspirationaldemographywillcreatea demand for us. “Weareinvestinghugeamountsof money on infrastructure so that we cangetlowerlogisticscost,sothatwe can get seamless movement of goods andservicesandweareensuringthat we get corruption free environment,” ShriGoyalsaid,addingthat“nopower can stop India’s growth now.” The target for 2030 is to have 1 trillion dollars of goods exports and 1 trillion dollarsofserviceexportsandthiswill be met with your hard work and contributions, Shri Goyal added. He informed the gathering that India is trying to unlock newer markets through FTAs, encouraging investments in modern technology, looking for digitalization and technology adaption to become more acceptable to the world for high quality goods and services so that the true potential of India can be harnessed.

“We should focus on quality, sustainability and innovation and if we keep these in our priority, the world is looking up to India wants to deal and trade with India and to partner with us in our growth story,” heconcluded.

India allows non-basmati white rice shipments trapped at Ports

NEW DELHI: India has allowed traders to ship out their non-basmati whitericecargoessittingatportsdue to a sudden ban on exports of the category, a Government order said lateonTuesday,29thAugust.

On July 20, India surprised buyers by banning exports of widely consumed non-basmati white rice to control rising domestic prices. The move followed a ban on broken rice exports last year. The export ban trapped thousands of tonnes of nonbasmati white rice at ports, leaving tradersfacinglosses.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), a unit of the Commerce Ministry, in its latest order said it would allow shipments of trapped cargoes

provided traders paid the export duty by July 20, when the ban was imposed. Before the July ban on non-basmati white rice exports, overseas shipments of the grade would attract a 20% tax.

After the DGFT order, around 150,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice cargoes would be shipped out of various ports, said Prem Garg, president of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation. “Three ships were standing still at the Deendayal Portandalotofcontainerswerelying at different ports, causing a lot of problems for the rice industry,” hesaid.

India, which accounts for 40% of world rice exports, sells the staple to more than 150 countries, including a

few poor and vulnerable countries in AfricaandAsia.NewDelhiexporteda record22.2milliontonsofricein2022.

After banning non-basmati white rice exports, India on Friday imposed a20%taxonparboiledriceshipments and introduced a floor price for overseassalesofbasmatirice,aspart of efforts to keep a lid on local prices. India’s rice export curbs have put upward pressure on global rice prices.

“The permission to allow the cargoes stuck at ports will not only help Indian suppliers, it will also help consumersinsome of the most needy countries,” Garg said. Most of the trapped cargoes would go to East African and West African countries, hesaid.

Morgan Stanley to invest Rs 300 cr in warehousing project

MUMBAI: Prakhhyat Group has said it has partnered with a fund managed by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing to develop a warehousing project at Bhiwandi near Mumbai.

Prakhyat Group will develop a 0.7 million square feet Grade A warehousing space at its K Square Logistics Park in Bhiwandi, the company said in a statement. This marks MSREI’s entry in the Bhiwandi sub-market of Mumbai. Withthis,MSREIhasinvestedinover 5.6 million sq ft of logistics assets across the country, it added. The project, One K-Square, will be

built across 25 acres. The development will offer warehousing solutions to institutional customers from e-commerce, 3PL players, FMCG and FMCD sectors, among others.

Andhra Pradesh exports goods worth 1.59 lakh crore in 2022-23, emerging 6th largest exporting State

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh exported goods worth 1.59 lakh crore in 2022-23, emerging as the sixth largest state of the country in terms of the value of exports. The state reported a near 11% increase in the volume of foreign trade in 2022-23 compared to its 1.43 lakh crore in 2021-22. AP contributed to about 5% of the total exports of the country in thelastfiscal.

According to the official statistics, Visakhapatnamtoppedallthedistricts with about 48,608 crore worth exports in 2022-23, followed by East Godavari (31,000crore).Fromorganic/inorganic chemicals, anti-cancer drugs, and calcined petroleum coke in Visakhapatnam district to shrimp and othermarineproductsandriceinEast Godavari, Andhra Pradesh is exporting about 2,100 products to nearly 190 countries. For instance, Anantapurexportedabout11,000crore worth cars, car engines, and other vehicleaccessoriesin2022-23.

Immense possibilities in inland waterways transport, expedite formation of Inland Waterways Authority: CM Yogi

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting regarding the formation of Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority in a highlevel meeting and gave instructions to expedite completionoftheprocessforformation.

Discussing the nature of the Authority, the Chief Minister said, “Responsibility for the tops posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Authority should be given to eminent experts. The Transport Commissioner of the state should be nominated as its CEO.”

The Chief Minister said that this authority will work in coordination with

the Inland Waterways Authority of India asthenodalauthority.

“The Authority will regulate all activities related to inland water transport and tourism and also ensure compliance with environmental and safety laws related to water transport, hydrographic survey and investigation for development and better use of waterways,”hesaid.

The Chief Minister further said that the inland water traffic data should be studiedandanalyzedbytheauthority.

“Scientific research should be conducted in relation to inland water transport, tourism and shipping and navigation-related activities.

Technical training related to inland water transport should also be organised for stakeholders and officers/employees,”theCMadded.

The Authority will play a crucial role in the determination of catchment area in the context of proper utilization and regulationofthewaterwaysoftherivers of Uttar Pradesh, besides channelizing the rivers and keeping them navigable throughout the year, carrying out dredging activities for uninterrupted flow and establishment of infrastructural facilities for inland water transport in addition to preparation of the circuit route, theCMsaid.

MSC gets into another vessel-sharing deal with Zim

GENEVA: MSC has inked its second vessel-sharing agreement (VSA) with Zim in the space of a week, the Israeli carrier becoming a ship provider for the North Europe-Mediterranean Israel Express Service. Commencing this week, the new VSA will deploy five 6,700TEU-typevessels,ofwhichMSCwilloperatethree.

According to MSC, the updated rotation of the Israel Express Service will be: London Gateway-RotterdamHamburg-Antwerp-Le Havre-Ashdod-Haifa-DamiettaValencia-LondonGateway.

The cooperation on the route renews a partnership Zim had enjoyed with MSC and its 2M partner Maersk, until it was terminated in January 2022, obliging the Israeli carrier to make other arrangements to cover commitments.

Zim is in the process of restructuring its liner network, after suffering a second-quarter net loss of $213m and reaffirming its full-year guidance for an ebit lossofupto$500m.

In June, the Haifa-based carrier terminated its Asia-USWestCoastservicestoconcentrateonthemore lucrative Asia to the US East Coast route, where it still operates,inconjunctionwiththe2MAlliance.

Last week Zim announced it was suspending its Asia-Australia CAX service from October and, subject to regulatory approval, joining MSC’s Panda service, contributing three 5,000 nominal TEU ships to the seven-vesselloop.

ThecarrieralsosaiditwasreplacingitsOceaniaTFX and N2A loops with newly branded ZAO and ZOX services, which appear to be slot charters on MSC’s KiwiExpressandCapricornstrings.

Zim’s EVP for intra-Asia, Danny Hoffman, said that the move represented an “exciting new phase” for the carrier. He explained: “Our current Oceania services

network will be restructured in cooperation with MSC to enhance reliability and strengthen our customer offerings.”

It was noted by Alphaliner, following the agreement with MSC, that Zim would need to find new employment for around ten 2,500-2,800 TEU chartered-in vessels that currently operate on the soon-to-be-discontinued Oceanialoops.

The carrier has, in fact, recently been extremely active in the sub-let charter market, successfully re-letting surplus ships to mitigate the daily hire liabilitiesithaswithvesselowners.However,thedemand fortonnage,particularlyinthesmallersizes,haspivoted to an over-supplied position in the past few weeks, meaning that Zim could now find sub-letting its redundantshipsmoreofachallenge.

According to Alphaliner data, Zim is ranked 10th in the container line league table, with capacity of 568,577 TEU on 130 ships, of which only nine ships are owned by the carrier. Moreover, Zim has a large orderbook,of38long-termchartervesselswithanominal capacityof306,184TEU.

PSA and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) work together to enhance the Rail Ecosystem and Rail-Integrated Logistics

Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI), the biggest operator of public railways in Indonesia, to jointly collaborate on enhancing the rail and rail-linked logistics ecosystem in the country. The MOU serves to drive and align both partners’ efforts to enhance connectivity and create an efficient and sustainable multi-modal transportation network in Indonesia. The signing took place at the Jakarta RailwaysCentreinJakarta,Indonesia,on25August.

As part of this MOU, PSA and KAI will work together in joint feasibility studies to develop cooperation plans and explore potential co-investment in new or existing rail-linked infrastructure in Indonesia. This includes jointmanagementandoperationsinareassuchasglobal logistics services, railway-based container terminals, and multimodal Door-to-Door (D2D) integrated freight transportationservices.

The partnership seeks to leverage synergies and the combined expertise – PSA’s presence and experience in rail linked projects globally, including the suite of innovativedigitalsolutionswhichwillenhanceefficiency and connectivity across the supply chain nodes, and KAI’s established and extensive rail network in Indonesia. PSA and KAI will also collaborate in talent

development through cross-cultural training and exchange programmes to level up knowledge sharing andvaluecreation.

India decides to allow rice export to Singapore : MEA

NEW DELHI: In view of the “special relationship” with Singapore, India has decided to allow the export of rice to “meet the food security requirements” of the Southeast nation,theMinistryofExternalAffairs(MEA)said.

“India and Singapore enjoy a very close strategic partnership, characterized by shared interests, close economic ties and strong people-to-people connect. In view of this special relationship, India has decided to allow the export of rice to meet the food security requirements of Singapore,” said MEA official spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi in response to media queries on rice export to Singapore. “Formal orders in this regard will be issued shortly,”Bagchiadded.

India on August 27 introduced additional safeguards on exports of basmati rice so as to prevent exports of nonbasmati white rice, which is presently under the prohibited category.

Last Sunday, 20th August the Government said it has

received credible field reports regarding misclassification andillegalexportofnon-basmatiwhiterice.

“It has been reported that non-basmati white rice is being exported under the HS codes of parboiled rice and basmatirice,”thegovernmentsaidinastatement.

Notably, the export of non-basmati white rice was prohibited from July 20 to check the domestic prices and ensuredomesticfoodsecurity.Thegovernmentnoticedthat despite restrictions put on certain varieties, rice exports have been high during the current year. The central government on July 20 amended the rice export norms putting the non-basmati white rice in the “prohibited” category.

The export policy relating to non-basmati white rice (semi-milled or wholly milled rice, whether or not polished orglazed)hasbeenrevisedfrom“free”to“prohibited”andit has come into force immediately, a Directorate General of ForeignTrade(DGFT)notificationsaid.
