India will achieve a 2 trillion export target by 2030 : Piyush Goyal

NEW DELHI: Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry,ConsumerAffairs,Foodand Public Distribution and textiles, said that India will achieve a 2 trillion export targetby2030.

The Minister was speaking at the Exporters Conclave held at Chennai in this context current geo political scenario to discuss the issues and the way forwards to keep the growth momentum. The session was participated by a large number of leading exporters from Tamil Nadu comprisingvarioussectorsofexports.

India recorded new milestones in goods & services exports in the last fiscal clocking US$ 422 Bn in merchandise sectors and US$ 254 Bn in services exports. 50% of the incremental GDP in 2021-22 was contributed by the exports sector. As stated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, exports play a key role in transition of a Country from a developing to a developed status, we have to push our exports so as to be in the comity of developed countries. Despite global headwinds, Indian exports have done reasonably well clocking 15% growth in thefirstsixmonthsofthecurrentfiscal.

At the meeting, the Minister emphasised on sustaining the export momentum and said that he is confidence that Indian exports will be able to wither the global headwinds and will surpass growth in exports by a big margin. While highlighting the growth of economy towards becoming developed nation, Hon’ble Minister said that by 2047, country will become 30 Trillion economy with 25% share in exports. By the year 2030, exports from India will be 2 trillion with 1 trillion product export with CAGR growth of 11 to 12% and 1 trillion service exports withCAGRof18-19%.

The industry participants were assured that Government is committed to address the issues raised by them and many of the issues raised were resolved on the spot. The Commerce

and Industry Minister urged the trade and industry to make all efforts to achieve higher export growth in this financialyear.

DrASakthivel,President,FIEO in his welcome address said that India is having very good opportunities for exports to Russia and the EU despite recessionary trends visible there and estimated that an additional export of US$ 8-10 Bn to Russia in the next 12 months and US$ 15-20 Bn to the EU can be exported. Russia's principal exports, of the total exports of US$. However he highlighted the liquidity problems of the exporters and requested the Hon'ble Minister for introducing Exports Refinance Facility for banks so as to refinance them at Repo rate to the extent of credit extended to the export sector. The levy of GST on exports freight has further added to our liquidity woes and FIEO President requested for intervention of Hon’ble Minister for getting exemption from GST on exports freight. Looking into the rising interest rates , which have already crossed pre –covid level, Dr. Sakthivel said that the exporters are looking towards increasinginterestsubventionto5%for MSMEs manufacturers and 3% to all in respectof410tarifflines.

He thanked the Hon'ble Minister for agreeing to include Iron & Steel, Pharma and Chemical sectors under the RoDTEP Scheme which will impart further competitiveness to these sectors.

Development Commissioner, MEPZ SEZ in his address highlighted the export potentials of Tamil Nadu and as well as export from SEZ and said that the State is having highly developed industrial manufacturing eco system andoneofthelargesthubforproduction of Automobile, textiles, leather, engineering,etc.

Exporters have flagged several issuesrelatedtotherisingofcostofraw materials and subdued demand in certain key export markets and the need for more support to the exporters in this difficult time. Industry leaders requested for including left out sectors under RoDTEP and rationalisation of existing RoDTEP rates, exploring possibility for increased support under Interest Equalisation Scheme (IES) and under Market Access Initiative (MAI), and operationalisation of Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemesforadditionalsectors.

Other issues discussed during the session includes Need for higher subvention under the Interest Equalization Scheme both for manufacturer MSMEs and exporters of 410tarifflines;ReliefonAverageExport

Obligation under EPCG for Service Sector; Export Benefit extension for exporttoRussiaunderRupeepayment; Higher freight costs; Withdrawal of 50% duty of export of law-grade Iron Ore; PLI scheme for Leather, Handloom, Auto parts etc. NTBs faced by the exportersinEU,Japan,China,etc.

MoS Shipping inspects Dry Port in Jammu

NEW DELHI: Union Minister ShantanuThakur recentlyinspectedthe under-construction dry port in Jammu andKashmir’sSambadistrictandsaidits completionwillfacilitateindustrialgrowth and also generate numerous job opportunitiesfortheyouth.

Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, ShippingandWaterways,visitedSamba as part of the Centre’s outreach programme and assessed the pace of development works across various sectorsintheborderdistrict.

While inspecting the Inland Container Depot (dry port) being set up by Associated Container Terminal Ltd

(ACTL) for felicitation of domestic and international trade, the Minister said it will pace up the Industrial growth in J&K besides generating numerous job opportunitiesfortheyouth.

Earlier, interacting with the public representatives, the Minister said the government is committed to develop Jammu and Kashmir on all fronts and every sector will be given due importanceforthewelfareofthepeople.

“The Government is ensuring that the benefits of all the centrally sponsored schemes must reach the last man in the last queue in Jammu & Kashmir,”hesaid.

The Minister virtually inaugurated various development works including construction of deep drain at Municipal Committee Bari Brahmana under drainage sector having project cost of Rs 2.71 crore, construction of four link roads, two RCC bridge spans, one vented causeway total amounting to Rs22.68crore.

The minister also distributed sanction letters among beneficiaries of Mumkin Scheme, Ladli Beti Scheme, PMEGP scheme, Handicrafts, Handloom, Landpass Books under Digital India Initiative and three e-rickshaws.

BILASPUR: Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s First Aluminum Freight Rake - 61 BOBRNALHSM1 at Bhubaneswar Railway Station. The rake’s destination is Bilaspur.

ThisisadedicatedeffortforMakeinIndiaprogramasit has been fully designed and developed indigenously in collaborationwithRDSO,HINDALCOandBescoWagon.

FeaturesofAluminiumRake:

• Fully Lockbolted construction with no welding on superstructure.

• The reduced tare will reduce carbon footprint as lower consumption of fuel in empty direction and more transport of freight in loaded condition. A single rake cansaveover14,500tonnesofCO2overitslifetime.

• 80%isresalevalueoftherakes.

• Cost is 35% higher as the superstructure is all aluminium.

• Lower maintenance cost due to higher corrosion and abrasionresistance.

• The tare is 3.25 tons lower than normal steel rakes, 180 ton extra carrying capacity resulting in higher throughputperwagon.

• Higherpayloadtotareratio2.85.

Iron industry consumes a lot of Nickel and Cadmium which comes from import. So, proliferation of Aluminum wagons will result in less import. At the same time, thisisgoodforlocalaluminumindustry.

Infrastructure enhancement at Deendayal Port to boost region’s economic growth

GANDHIDHAM: The port’s infrastructure upgrade will boost the overall economic growth of the region The Centre is looking to upgrade facilities at the Deendayal Port (DP) in Kandla, Gujarat, and has announced projects worth nearly Rs. 300 crore. This investment under the Sagarmala project is expected to reduce the turnaround time, lead to faster evacuation of cargo while enabling mechanisedoperations.

“The infrastructure upgrade at DP port will boost its performance and improve overall economic growth for the hinterlandandregion,”aseniorportofficialsaid.

Upcomingupgrades

The projects include construction of dome shaped warehouse inside the cargo jetty area entailing a project cost of Rs. 70 crore. The structure has been specially designed to allow extended working height so that there is “more cargo handling capacity”. It will help unload bulk cargo through the use of hydraulics by transport vehicles

offifthgenerationorlargertrucks.

Upgrade of plots and storm-water drains in the cargo jetty area will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 80 crore and include addition of utility services. The area under upgradewillbe66hectares.

Another 40-odd hectare will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs. 47 crore and it will include improvement in handling and storage capacity inside the custom bonded area. This will boost import-export of drycargoandleadtoincreaseincapacityto8.8lakhtonne.

Doubling of two lanes to four lanes inside the port at an estimated Rs. 87 crore will result in faster cargo evacuation. “It will provide better connectivity to the port from the National Highway and give a face-lift to approach roads to the port. The project will also benefit the proposed jetties to be developed by the Deendayal Port Authority on aPPPbasis,”atradesourcesaid.

The DP port recorded a growth of 17.22 per cent cargo handling in the first two quarters of FY23, to70.14milliontonnesofcargo.

Govt. allows exports of wheat flour processed from imported grain

NEWDELHI:GovernmentofIndiahasallowedexportoriented units and the firms set up in Special Economic Zones to export flour made from imported wheat, a government order said, conceding to the demands of food processorstoallowshipmentsofvalue-addedproducts.

India will allow food processors to import duty-free wheatagainstacommitmenttoexportflour,theordersaid.

After a sudden rise in temperatures in mid-March shrivelled the wheat crop, India, the world’s secondbiggest producer of the grain, banned overseas sales of the stapletosecuresuppliesforits1.4billionpeople.

Wheat exports from India, also the world’s second biggest consumer of the staple, surged after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine hit supplies from the Black Sea region,

resultinginajumpinglobalprices.

After banning wheat exports in May, the government of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi restricted wheat flour exportsinAugusttokeepalidonlocalprices.

The ban on wheat exports boosted demand for Indian wheat flour and the country’s flour exports jumped 200% during April-July 2022 from a year earlier, lifting prices in thelocalmarket.

Closeontheheelsofthebanonoverseassalesofwheat, India restricted rice exports as scant rains in the east affected plantingofthemostwater-thirstycrop.

India’s protectionist measures have stoked fears of food shortages in some of the world’s most needy and vulnerablecountriesinAsiaandAfrica.

Mumbai Customs & BCBA conduct outreach program on CBLMS

Mumbai Customs Zone I conducted a Seminar cojointly with Brihanmumbai Custom Brokers Association (BCBA) on 12.10.2022 for implementationofCBLMS,asteptowardsDigitizationof CB records at Dayashankar Auditorium. More than 200CustomBrokersattendedtheSeminar.

Shri Pramod Kumar Agrawal, Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Zone I gave an insightful address to the entire CB fraternity regarding the Dream of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra ModiforDigitalIndia.

Dr. Deepak Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Dy Commissioners, Mr.AshokChakravarthy.Dr.MevaRamOlaaswellas Mr. Aditya Mahato & Mr. Rodrigues from Mumbai Customs Zone I gave a detailed Presentation to members which was very fruitful. The session was followed by a Q & A wherein members interacted with Customs Officials with their doubts regarding CBLMS. Mumbai Customs Zone 1 is the first Commissionerate in IndiadirectedbyCBICtoimplementtheCBLMSproject.

BCBA has pledged to Mumbai Customs in providing full support and a dedicated team to complete the registration of all Custom Brokers at Mumbai Custom Zone on priority. This step towards digitization shall reap multifoldbenefitsforCustomBrokers.
