AAL Shipping Named Ship Operator of the Year at the Heavy Lift Awards 2024
Cont’d. from Pg. 4
Organised by Heavy Lift &
International, the annual awards r e c o g n i s e
s
n d i n g achievements within the project cargo supply chain, and AAL Shipping is honoured to have been selected by an independent panel of judges representing its peers across the industry
AAL’s entry detailed how its ongoing investment and accountability strategy turned to action. 2024 has been a milestone year for AAL Shipping in this regard, as it executes its long-term investment strategy to provide the global market a young and dynamic multipurpose heavy lift fleet – realised through the delivery of its third newbuilding programme comprising eight 32,000 deadweight ‘Super B-Class’ vessels. The ‘AAL Limassol’ was the first of these to enter the water, breaking performance records with a maiden voyage of barges, wind blades, trucks, transformers, modules, and a dismantled crane – testament to the broad range of project cargo customers AAL serves worldwide.
In addition to successfully completing 231 voyages, 1,278 port calls and serving more than 35 different markets between January 2023 to June 2024, AAL has worked hard to harmonise the strictest ESG standards across its operations – comprising good governance,
sustainability initiatives and a heightened focus on staff wellbeing. These reflect significant investment which, for the latter, include a wide range of mindfulness initiatives as well as training and employee development programmes that will continue to improve diversity, employee satisfaction and workplace harmony
“It is our people that make the difference, and their hard work that deserves recognition,” said Kyriacos Panayides, CEO of AAL Shipping. “To win this award for the third consecutive year is no mean feat and justifies the ongoing dedication of the AAL team to upholding the highest level of service for our customers at a time when multiple external challenges place enormous strain on the global shipping supply chain, both operationally and commercially.
“These collaborative efforts to fine-tune our multipurpose cargo operations and provide the industry with a trusted premium service – combining a dynamic heavy lift fleet, sailings regularity and highly capable personnel at every level – are bearing fruit, and to be recognised for this by industry peers is something we take pride in. From the tumultuous COVID years to the unpredictable times we currently face, AAL continues to adapt and enhance its operations and realise a singleminded vision of becoming the MPP sector’s premium project carrier of choice, no matter what trends emerge in the coming years.”

J&K Govt sets export target of Rs 10,000 cr in next 5 yrs
JAMMU: Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has set export target of Rs 10,000 crore in next five years by leveraging both the core and emerging areas of exports and through effective institutional mechanism, conducive strategies, trade infrastructure and marketing assistance.
This has been revealed in the Draft Jammu and Kashmir Export Policy, 2024 by the Department of Industries and Commerce, the copy of which is available with EXCELSIOR. Official sources told EXCELSIOR that as country is striving to become a leader in the international trade with export hub of USD 5 trillion economy, the J&K Government has decided to provide focused facilitation to exports from Union Territory in sectors where
it enjoys competitive advantages.
“This factor taken together coupled with the need to give impetus to introduce best practices, provide for capacity building and enhance quality and competitiveness of exports, calls for developing a more conducive export ecosystem and putting in place a robust policy framework to improve export performance”, sources further said.
They said that vision behind the J&K Export Policy is to harness export potential of Jammu & Kashmir based on its strengths and key advantages and transfor m its economy into a competitive export led entity and make Jammu and Kashmir a “heaven for exports” in line with its g l o b a l l y a c c l a i m e d s t a t u s a s “heaven on earth”.
“The mission is to achieve an
export target of Rs 10,000 crore in five years leveraging both the core and emerging areas of exports by providing an effective institutional mechanism, conducive strategies, trade infrastructure and marketing assistance aimed towards facilitating exports”, sources said.
As per the official document, the Export Policy will help in identifying potential sectors/products for promotion of exports from these sectors/products; facilitating substantial incremental growth of export of products identified in the focus sectors by enhancing value addition and quality competitiveness and help in laying emphasis on boosting exports of unique and worldfamous handicraft and handloom products and agri-commodities with special focus on GI tagged products.
Indonesia considers importing 1 mn tons of rice from India next year
NEW DELHI: Indonesia is considering a plan to import 1 million metric tons of rice from India in 2025 to secure supply until its main harvest, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said after a meeting of food and agricultural officials.
I n d o n e s i a ’ s r i c e o u t p u t i s estimated to fall 2.43% this year to 30.34 million metric tons, due to a delay in planting and harvest season amid longer dry weather in 2023, the statistics bureau said earlier this month.
“We need an additional 1 million tons so that we can go trough February. Output in DecemberFebruary period is usually lower,” Head of National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi told reporters after the meeting with Hasan.
Rice is a staple for most of Indonesia’s 280 million population and the main rice harvest typically starts in March.
Indonesia’s rice imports have jumped in the past two years, reaching over 3 million metric tons each year
The Southeast Asian country aims to import up to 3.6 million tons of rice this year. It also plans to open between 750,000 hectares and 1 million hectares (2.47 million acres) of new rice fields in 2025 to achieve President Prabowo Subianto’s target of food self-reliance.
The world’s largest rice exporter India has removed the floor price for the export of non-basmati white rice this month to boost exports due to expectation of higher output and with stocks piling up since the 2023 export restrictions.
