SINGAPORE: PSA International (PSA) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) jointly announced today the launch of the PSA-NUS
S u p p l y C h a i n L i v i n g L a b . Recognising the growing need for integrated solutions that extend beyond container handling within ports, PSA has in recent years, expanded its role as a leading global port operator to also encompass complementary services in the broader supply chain sphere. In line with its overall strategy, PSA is supporting the initiative with funds totalling up to S$10 million.
PSA International Group CEO Ong Kim Pong, said, “As we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of global trade, it has become essential for PSA Group to continually adapt and refine our business strategy We will continue to look for new areas of expansion whilst enhancing our presence in key locations, and connecting these strategic nodes to form a cohesive and integrated network across the globe. This collaboration with NUS also marks a significant step in our journey towards strengthening PSA’s position as a leading global port operator and supply chain services provider, capable of
delivering supply chain efficiency and resilience across the world.”
The PSA-NUS Supply Chain Living Lab will strengthen collaboration between industry and academic expertise to address critical supply chain challenges. The Lab will provide a sandbox to foster the development of community-centric solutions for supply chain optimisation together with industry stakeholders, with a focus on enhancing agility, resilience and sustainability for supply chain operations both regionally and globally.
NEW DELHI: The much-anticipated ChennaiVladivostok maritime corridor is now operational, marking a new chapter in India-Russia trade relations. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced on Monday, 25th November that container ships carrying crude oil, metals, and textiles have begun arriving at Indian ports through this new route The sea corridor, covering a distance of about 5,600 nautical miles, is set to enhance maritime connectivity between India and Russia’s Far East region Faster trade and reduced shipping time
Dubbed the Eastern Maritime Corridor, this route significantly reduces the time needed to transport goods between Indian and Russian ports. Minister Sonowal talked about the benefits of this new route, stating, “The Eastern Maritime Corridor between Vladivostok and Chennai is operational now
Container ships carrying crude oil, metal, and textiles have started coming to Indian ports.”
The corridor is expected to cut cargo transportation time by up to 16 days. Currently, it takes over 40 days to ship goods from India to Far East Russia via Europe. With the new route, this time will be slashed to just 24 days, providing a faster and more efficient trade link In comparison, the traditional Mumbai to St Petersburg route covers 8,675 nautical miles and requires around 35-40 days for transportation. A large container ship cruising at speeds of
20-25 knots (37-46 km/h) will now be able to reach its destination in just 10-12 days, unlocking new trade opportunities.
Vladivostok: A strategic gateway
Vladivostok, Russia’s largest port on the Pacific Ocean, plays a crucial role in this new maritime corridor. The port is strategically located just 50 kilometres from the China-Russia border, further enhancing its significance for regional trade By leveraging Vladivostok’s position, India and Russia are set to deepen their maritime ties and explore new avenues for economic collaboration India and Greece to strengthen maritime cooperation
On the sidelines of the Sagarmanthan event, Sarbananda Sonowal also held a bilateral meeting with Christos Stylianides, the Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy The two leaders discussed enhancing maritime relations and agreed to double trade from the current USD 1.94 billion by 2030. “India is working with Greece to expand economic cooperation with the European Union market,” Sonowal shared after the meeting.
The Ministers talked about the importance of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on maritime and shipping issues as a key mechanism for sector-specific cooperation. They also agreed on using strategic maritime assets to promote sustainable development, aiming to deepen ties between their countries further

NEW DELHI: As the Winter
Session Parliament began on Monday, 3 shipping bills are among the several bills to be listed for passage These are: Merchant Shipping Bill, Coastal Shipping Bill, and the Indian Ports Bill.
The Merchant Shipping Bill, a new draft law planned by the Centre, seeks to ensure compliance with India’s obligation under the international maritime treaty to which New Delhi is a signatory. The bill is designed to modernise the regulatory framework governing merchant shipping in the countr y, p
international standards.
The Coastal Shipping Bill is aimed at removing the need to acquire a general trading license for Indianflagged vessels engaged in coastal trade. With this, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is aiming to do away with licensing norms in coastal shipping and revitalise the shipping sector by streamlining operations and aligning the sector with global standards. It also seeks to integrate coastal maritime transport with inland waterways.
The Coastal Shipping Bill is expected to benefit ship owners and shipyards in India, non-vessel operating common carriers and cargo owners, beside seafarers.
The third bill to be listed for introduction is the Indian Ports Bill. It seeks to modernise and replace the outdated Indian Ports Act of 1908. The proposed objectives of the bill include promotingintegratedplanningbetween states inter-se and Centre-States through a purely consultative and recommendatory framework; ensuring prevention of pollution measures for all ports in India while incorporating India’s obligations under international treaties; addressing the lacunae in the dispute resolution framework required for burgeoning ports sector; and ushering-in transparency and cooperation in development and other aspects through use of data.
Cabinet approved 2 Multitracking projects to provide connectivity, minimize logistics cost, reduce oil imports and
N E W D E L H I : T h e C a b i n e t Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved Three projects of Ministry of Railways with total cost of Rs. 7,927 crore (approx.).
The projects are:
i. Jalgaon – Manmad 4th line (160 km)
ii. Bhusawal – Khandwa 3rd & 4th line (131 km)
iii.Prayagraj (Iradatganj) – Manikpur 3rd Line (84 km)
The proposed multi-tracking projects will ease operations and reduce congestion, providing the much-required infrastr uctural development on the busiest sections between Mumbai and Prayagraj.
The projects are in line with H o n’ b l e P r i m e M i n i s t e r S h r i Narendra Modiji’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region “Atmanirbhar” by way of comprehensive development in the
area which will enhance their employment/ self-employment opportunities.
The projects are result of PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multimodal connectivity which have been possible through integrated planning a n d w i l l p r o v i d e s e a m l e s s connectivity for movement of people, goods and services.
The Three projects covering seven Districts in three States i.e., Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 639 Kms The proposed multi-tracking projects will enhance connectivity to Two Aspirational Districts (Khandwa and Chitrakoot) serving approx 1,319 villages and about 38 lakh population.
The proposed projects will enhance connectivity along the Mumbai–Prayagraj–Varanasi route
benefiting pilgrims traveling to J

NEW DELHI: Prolonged delays in processing imports of critical components have disrupted medical device manufacturing, according to industry sources, and this might have long-term implications for the government’s Make in India initiative. According to the producers of crucial items such as X-ray and C-Arm machines, even though they have legitimate so-called MD-9 certificates as needed by India’s Medical Items Rules, they are receiving unexpected requests for a d d i t i o n a l i m p o r t l i c e n s e s . These delays have lasted nearly three months, resulting in production disruptions, missed delivery dates, and limited availability of life-saving diagnostic tools, according to
manufacturers.
Last year, the Union Cabinet approved the National Medical D
producers of class C and D medical devices, which are moderate to high risk Examples include implants, dialysis catheters, and heart valves. Among the urgent measures, they want to be able to import crucial
- 9 certification while a long-term solution is created.
The manufacturers also want a faster customs clearance process for MD-9-certified manufacturers, a centralized grievance redressal m
e resolution, and better coordination
between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), customs authorities, and industry stakeholders to prevent regulatory r e q
r e m e n t s f
o m b e i n g misinterpreted.
However, sources acquainted with the situation in the government claim there is no uncertainty and the regulations are plain clear The official explained that FPDs are utilized in digital radiography, such as digital X-rays, CT scans, and mammograms, as well as to replace radiographic film or screen systems in all general-purpose diagnostic processes for detecting X-rays It takes X-rays and converts them into digital signals, resulting in digital X-ray images.

NEW DELHI: The Foreign Minister S Jaishankar recently said while conflicts in the Middle East are creating hurdles for the IMEEC ( I n d i a - M i d d l e E a s t - E u r o p e Economic Corridor), the ambitious project is progressing on the eastern side, especially between India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

M U M B A I : I n d i a ’ s e x p o r t performance is showing signs of improvement, with the country steadily increasing its share in global t r a d e a c r o s s a r a n g e o f manufacturing sectors, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) November bulletin.
Despite a subdued growth outlook over the past few months, India has made notable strides in key export categories, positioning itself as a more competitive player in the global market.
The report highlights that India now holds a significant 13% share of the global petroleum product market, reflecting its growing refining capabilities and the country’s ability to meet international standards. This marks a key achievement for India’s manufacturing sector, particularly in petroleum.
India’s prominence in other export categories is also on the rise. The country is now the largest exporter of precious and semiprecious stones, the third-largest exporter of insecticides, the eighthlargest exporter of rubber pneumatic tyres, and the ninth-largest exporter of semiconductors.
The RBI report also notes impressive performances in specific sectors For instance, Apple has exported nearly $6 billion worth of India-made iPhones in the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25, underscoring the country’s growing role in global e l e c t r o n i c s m a n u f a c t u r i n g Additionally, India’s automobile
exports surged by 14.3%, driven by increased demand for passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.
In terms of agricultural products, India has seen growing exports of a wide range of items, and export restrictions on several goods have been lifted, further boosting India’s export potential. Efforts are also underway to expand the number of g e o g r a p h i c a l i n d i c a t i o n ( G I ) products, which are expected to help secure premium pricing in global markets. Currently, more than 1,100 GI products are registered under the One-District-One-Product (ODOP) scheme, with 640 of them already being exported.
India is also focusing on improving its trade agreements, particularly with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners.
The RBI report points out the urgency of standardizing approaches to negotiating FTAs, particularly in addressing issues like rules of origin and non-tariff barriers, which could help India access broader markets.
Over the last five years, India’s imports from FTA partners have increased by 37 9%, while exports grew at a slower rate of 14.5%. The report suggests that enhancing market access through strategic FTAs is key to capitalizing on the ‘China plus one’ trend in global manufacturing, which is seeing companies diversify their supply chains away from China.
India is also undergoing a significant transformation in its
maritime trade logistics, which is crucial as maritime trade accounts for 95% of India’s trade by volume and 65% by value. The country has made substantial improvements in port capacity and efficiency Over the past decade, India’s port capacity has more than doubled, from 745 million tonnes to over 1,600 million tonnes.
Traffic at major ports has risen by n e a r l y 5 0 % , a n d t h e a v e r a g e turnaround time for ships has significantly reduced from 127 hours in 2010 to just 53 hours today Notably, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) at Nhava Sheva has an even more impressive turnaround time of just 21 hours.
T h e s e i m p r o v e m e n t s h a v e contributed to India’s rise in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index, where the country ’s rank has improved from 54th in 2010 to 38th in more recent assessments, indicating a clear upward trajectory in India’s logistics capabilities.
Overall, the RBI’s November report paints a promising picture for India’s export sector As India continues to expand its share in key global markets, improve its logistics infrastr ucture, and engage in strategic FTAs, the outlook for the country’s exports is increasingly positive.
With continued efforts to enhance trade partnerships, support highvalue sectors, and reduce trade barriers, India is positioning itself as a key player in global trade for the years ahead.
NEW DELHI: India has rejected consignments of apples, nuts, alcoholic beverages and sushi from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, China and Turkey this year because they fell short of the standards set by it.

MUMBAI: India’s economic landscape has experienced a remarkable transformation, with an impressive $8 trillion of the total $14 trillion invested in the country since its independence being infused in the last ten years, according to a new report by financial services leader Motilal Oswal.
This surge in investment accounts for more than half of the total capital that has flowed into India since 1947, signaling a period of unprecedented growth.
The report further projects that this momentum will continue, with an additional $8 trillion expected to be invested over the next five years. This rapid investment growth is being fueled by post-COVID recovery efforts, large-scale government infrastructure initiatives, and an overall rise in economic activity
One of the key highlights of the report is the recovery of India’s investment-to-GDP ratio, which has been relatively low since 2011.
However, as the nation rebounds from the pandemic and focuses on infrastructure development, this ratio is showing a marked improvement, contributing to India’s ongoing shift towards sustained economic growth and greater global competitiveness.
India’s stock market has been another critical component in the country’s economic success, consistently delivering positive returns in 26 out of the
past 33 years despite periodic downturns.
The report emphasized that investors should anticipate a 10–20% temporary market drawdown each year but advised maintaining a long-term perspective to benefit from eventual market recoveries.
With this strong investment momentum and resilient stock market performance, India is poised to strengthen its position as a leading global economic force.
As the nation continues to build its investment base and improve its GDP ratio, it is on track for continued growth and a more prominent role in the global economy
The report also pointed out that government reforms and a thriving tech sector back India’s emergence as a major investment destination Five years ago, India’s share on the Emerging Market index was 9%. Today, it stands at over 20%, reflecting the growing confidence of global investors in the Indian economy
The anticipated inclusion of Indian government bonds into the J.P Morgan Global Bond Index-Emerging Markets indices in June 2024 and the country’s upcoming inclusion in FTSE Russell’s Emerging Market government bond index in September 2025 are expected to drive even more capital inflow into India.
This further solidifies India’s position as a key player in the global financial landscape.
NEW DELHI: Saudi Arabia wants a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) with India before moving ahead with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to government sources. However, India is not keen to link an FTA with a BIT, which it is negotiating separately with Saudi Arabia.
This difference in approach has led the Indian government to believe that signing an FTA with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is unlikely in the near term, and negotiations will take longer Saudi Arabia is the largest GCC member by economy, population, and land area, surpassing all other members combined.
In 2022, India and the GCC announced the resumption of negotiations for a potential FTA after a hiatus of several years. The idea of an FTA with the GCC was first floated in 2004. The GCC is a six-member economic bloc comprising Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. Apart from historical ties and the presence
of nearly 9 million Indian workers, the GCC is a significant trading partner for India.
Economic linkages have grown over the years, largely due to increased oil imports. In FY 2023-24, India-GCC bilateral trade reached $161 59 billion, with Indian exports accounting for $56.3 billion and imports for $105.3 billion.
Last year, India offered GCC member countries the option to sign individual FTAs instead of a collective agreement. India already has an FTA with the GCC member UAE. Foreign trade experts believe the FTAs with the UAE and Oman could serve as templates for future agreements with other GCC nations.
India is close to finalising an FTA with Oman, having completed negotiations on most chapters last year However, the India-Oman FTA remains stalled over unresolved issues related to market access for petrochemical products.
